Abstract

Abstract

The rapid development of the beauty industry requires vocational education institutions, particularly Beauty Vocational High Schools, to produce graduates who are not only technically skilled but also adaptable to the dynamics of the job market. However, many vocational school graduates are considered unprepared for work, raising questions about the relevance of the curriculum, teacher competence, and alignment with industry needs. This study aims to evaluate the curriculum standards of Beauty Vocational High Schools in Malang Raya, assess teachers' professional competencies, and explore industry expectations for vocational graduates. The results indicate that the curriculum remains focused on basic techniques and has not incorporated modern makeup trends, small business management, and the use of digital media. Teachers' competencies are also suboptimal due to limited industry training, resulting in teaching methods that are conventional and lack contextual relevance. The industry expects graduates who are ready to work, communicative, and able to promote services independently. The gap between school learning and field practice underscores the need for closer collaboration between schools and the workplace. The implications of these findings emphasize the importance of curriculum updates, enhancing teacher capacity through industry training, and strengthening Teaching Factories to improve graduate competitiveness.

Abstract

The challenges of implementing inclusive vocational education for students with special educational needs in higher education are increasingly complex, particularly in a practice-based fashion course that requires technical and procedural competencies. This study aims to examine instructional strategies for students with special educational needs in a fashion practicum course. A classroom action research design employing a Longitudinal Quasi-Qualitative approach was conducted over one semester, involving three students categorized into mild, moderate, and severe levels of need. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, using observation checklists, semi-structured interview guides, and field notes. The research procedure followed iterative cycles of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in instructional practices and student responses. The findings indicate that a uniform instructional approach implemented in the first cycle was ineffective, particularly for students with moderate and severe needs, due to a mismatch between task demands and learner characteristics. In contrast, the second cycle, which incorporated differentiated tasks, simplified instructions, and personalized sensory stimuli, significantly improved student engagement and learning accessibility. This study concludes that effective inclusive vocational education requires adaptive instructional design that integrates cognitive, emotional, and sensory dimensions, and highlights the potential of adaptive learning ecosystems to enhance sustainable inclusion and work readiness.

Abstract

Abstract: The acceleration of digitization in education has driven the need for systems that can effectively and efficiently manage school administration and student monitoring. This study examines the implementation of the School Management Information System (SIMS) pro.jurnale.id as a solution for the digitalization of administration and student monitoring at SMAN 1 Boyolangu. This case study employs a qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation methods to evaluate the main functions of SIMS in supporting administrative processes and monitoring student development. The results indicate that the system is most frequently used in modules such as teacher and student attendance, master data management, curriculum management, and correspondence handled by administrative staff. SIMS facilitates faster data input, increases accuracy, simplifies report generation, and significantly reduces paper usage. Student monitoring has also become more effective through features like real-time attendance, daily assessments, violation records, and parent communication facilitated through homeroom teachers and guidance counselors as intermediaries. However, the study identifies several challenges, including user adaptation difficulties to new technology, network infrastructure limitations, and features that are not yet fully optimized. The researchers recommend enhanced training for teachers and staff, the development of more comprehensive features, and intensive socialization to increase parental engagement in using the system. This study provides important insights into the benefits and obstacles of digitalizing school management, serving as a foundation for developing better educational information systems in the future. Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to identify internship experiences as a means of developing hard and soft skills competencies among students of the Agribusiness of Agricultural Product Processing (APHP) expertise program at SMK Baitul Izza. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving three twelfth-grade APHP students, one internship coordinator, one internship supervising teacher, and one industry mentor as the primary informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that internship activities contribute to the development of students’ technical competencies (hard skills). Students were able to apply theoretical knowledge acquired at school to industrial practice, master the use of modern tools and materials, and implement occupational health and safety (OHS) principles. In addition, internships also enhance non-technical competencies (soft skills), such as discipline, responsibility, teamwork, interpersonal communication, and adaptability to professional work environments. Overall, internships function as an effective form of contextual learning that bridges the gap between the educational environment and the industrial world. Through direct workplace experience, students not only become more proficient technically but also develop strong work character and readiness to compete in the labor market. Therefore, the implementation of internships at SMK Baitul Izza has proven to make a significant contribution to achieving the goals of vocational education—producing competent, professional, and competitive graduates in the modern industrial era. Abstract

This study was motivated by the complexity of teaching Computer Numerical Control (CNC) in vocational high schools, which is often hindered by the disparity between limited practical facilities and the number of students. The objective of this study is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the implementation of mentoring in the CNC learning process among 11th-grade Machining Technology students at SMK PGRI 3 in Malang City. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with four students as primary informants, two mentors as agents of innovation, and one practicing teacher as a validator, employing source triangulation. The results indicate that mentoring effectively reduces operational anxiety and enhances students’ self-efficacy in exploring complex geometric designs. This mentoring process facilitates the deep transfer of tacit knowledge, particularly regarding the accuracy of machine zero-point determination and an understanding of precision down to the micron level aspects not fully accommodated by digital simulation tools. In conclusion, the triadic synergy between students, mentors, and teachers creates a learning ecosystem that is accountable and aligned with manufacturing industry standards. This study recommends the development of a formal mentoring model integrated into the vocational curriculum to optimize the sustainable utilization of productive workshops.
