Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh suplementasi tepung kulit manggis (TKM) dan Vitamin E (VE) di dalam ransum ayam ras petelur terhadap kualitas fisik telur selama penyimpanan pada waktu dan suhu yang berbeda. Ayam petelur diberi perlakuan pakan yaitu : R0 (ransum kontrol), R1 (R0 +1 g TKM/Kg ransum), R2 (R0 + 2 g TKM/Kg ransum) dan R3 (R0 + 200 mg VE/Kg ransum). Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial 4 x 3 x 2 dengan 4 ulangan. Faktor pertama yaitu ransum, faktor kedua yaitu: waktu penyimpanan (1, 2 dan 3 minggu) dan faktor ketiga yaitu suhu penyimpanan pada refrigerator (4,13oC dan 22,50%) dan suhu ruang (27, 47oC dan 76,17%). Variabel yang diamati adalah: berat telur, persentase kerabang telur, persentase kuning telur, persentase putih telur, tebal kerabang, warna kuning telur dan Haught unit (HU). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi antara ransum, waktu dan suhu selama penyimpanan sangat nyata (P<0,01) menurunkan warna kuning telur. Waktu dan suhu penyimpanan sangat nyata (P<0,01) menurunkan HU dan meningkatkan persentase kuning telur. Interaksi waktu dan suhu penyimpanan nyata (P<0,05) menurunkan persentase putih telur. Tebal kerabang nyata (P<0,05) meningkat dipengaruhi oleh ransum dan sangat nyata (P<0,01) meningkat dipengaruhi oleh waktu penyimpanan. Berat telur dan persentase kerabang telur tidak dipengaruhi oleh ransum, waktu dan suhu penyimpanan. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah suplementasi tepung kulit manggis dan Vitamin E di dalam ransum ayam ras petelur strain Lohmann secara umum tidak mempengaruhi kualitas fisik telur (kecuali warna kuning telur dan tebal kerabang) yang disimpan pada waktu dan suhu yang berbeda. Kualitas fisik telur lebih utama dipengaruhi oleh waktu dan suhu penyimpanan yang berbeda. Suhu dan kelembaban terbaik untuk penyimpanan telur adalah 4,13oC dan 22,50% pada refrigerator, pada kondisi ini telur dapat disimpan selama 21 hari.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to characterized morphology and estimated genetic distance between intra population of Kuantan cattle. A Total of 213 cattle (44 male and 169 female with age ranging from 2-3 years) were used in this study and collected from extensive ranging systems in Three sub-population (Cerenti, Inuman, and Kuantan Hilir regions) Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province. Five variables were measured that is Body Length (BL)(cm), Wither Height (WH)(cm), Hip Height (HH)(cm), Chest Girth (CG)(cm), and Chest Depth (CD)(cm). Data obtained were descriptive analysis, Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Hierarchichal Clustering Analysis (HCA)  using XLSTAT program. All variables of body measurement in the Kuantan Hilir region were higher than Cerenti dan Inuman, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The first factor in PCA described body measurement contributed 32.77%, and the second factor described body shape contribute 25.83% of total variability. The dendrogram showed there is Three clusters of Kuantan Cattle based on this research.

Abstract

Investigating Myostatin (MSTN) as a potent inhibitor of skeletal muscle growth and development to produce excessive muscles is extremely essential for livestock breeding. This study aimed to analyze the expression of the MSTN gene and its relationships with genotype and phenotype (normal-muscled vs double-muscled) of Belgian Blue (BB) x Ongole Grade (PO) crossbred cattle. For that purpose, 12 animals from BB, PO, BB x PO F1, and BB x PO F2 cattle (3 animals each) raised at Balai Embrio Ternak (BET) Cipelang Bogor, West Java were used for blood sample collection. Genotyping analysis was performed using the PCR-RFLP method withprimer F: 5’-CTC TTC TTT CCT TTC CAT ACA GAC-3’ and R: 5’-AGG GGA AGA CCT TCC ATG TT-3’, while the MSTN gene expression was analyzed using the qPCR technique. As results, three genotypes: del.11/del.11, +/del.11, and +/+ were detected. The del.11/del.11 genotype, which showed a double-muscled phenotype was found in BB cattle and BB x PO F2 cattle. The +/del.11 genotype was found in BB x PO F1 cattle and BB x PO F2 cattle. The +/+ genotype, which showed a normal phenotype was only detected in PO cattle. There was a significant difference of the MSTN gene expression in the sampled animals among genotypes and between phenotypes (normal-muscled vs double muscled). The MSTN expression in animals with del.11/del.11 genotype was higher than that in animals with +/del11 and +/+ genotypes (P<0.05). Animals with +/+ genotype showed the lowest MSTN expression. It was concluded that double-muscled animals showed higher MSTN expression than normal-muscled animals.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare the fatty acid profiles of Bali cattle and Wagyu cattle. A total of 50 beef was used in this study, consisting of 44 Bali cattle from Kupang, NTT, and 6 samples of Wagyu cattle from supermarkets. The fatty acid profiles identified are saturated and unsaturated (MUFA and PUFA). The fatty acid analysis used is the Gas Chromatography (GC) method. Descriptive analysis was used to examine data on the fatty acid profile, and T-test analyzed fatty acid composition differences between Bali and Wagyu beef. Differences in fatty acid compositions have been reported based on breeds. The Bali beef had significantly (p<0.05) higher saturated fatty acid than Wagyu. Several fatty acids of meat from Bali cattle were significantly different (p<0.05) from Wagyu, except for myristoleic (C14:0) and palmitoleic acids (C16:0) did not show significant differences (p>0.05). The principal component analysis (PCA) results showed that the first principal component was UFA, MUFA: SFA ratio, oleic acid, omega-9, MUFA, and palmitic acid. In contrast, the second principal component was myristoleic acid, linolenic acid, omega-3, PUFA: SFA ratio, PUFA, omega-6, linoleic acid, stearic acid, SFA, and palmitoleic acid. The study's findings revealed that Bali beef had a much more saturated fatty acid composition of Bali beef was higher than Wagyu beef. This result suggests that Wagyu cattle have a more favorable fatty acid profile, which benefits health.
