Abstract

The idea of women in Islam is examined in this article as a key topic in modern Islamic studies, covering theological, sociological, and pedagogical facets. By examining the viewpoints of the Qur'an, Hadith, Islamic academic tradition, and historical precedents, this study seeks to provide a comprehensive picture of women's strategic position and role. This article illustrates how Islam sees women as spiritually equal beings with a variety of roles through scriptural and contextual study. The Qur'an and Hadith's endorsement of men and women's spiritual equality, which dispels patriarchal prejudices, opens the topic. The article then examines the ideas of "Sayyidah" and "Umm," which show how women's roles in the home and in society are balanced. Exemplary characters like Khadijah, Aisha, and Fatimah are also presented in the analysis as models of perfect women who achieve achievement in their careers, education, and spiritual lives. It is also stressed that women play a crucial role in forming the character of future generations as "madrasah al-ūlā" (first school). To sum up, Islam views women as active and important participants in the advancement of civilization. In the context of women's education at establishments like the Gontor Putri Modern Islamic Boarding School, which seeks to create ideal Muslim women capable of serving as leaders and educators in society, these ideas are not merely theoretical but also applicable.

Abstract

Background: Mental disorders, particularly schizophrenia, cause a decline in mental function, impacting individuals' inability to perform self-care activities independently, including dental and oral hygiene. This self-care deficit is caused by cognitive impairment, lack of motivation, and the inability to organize and carry out daily activities. Appropriate interventions are essential to support the restoration of independence and improve patients' quality of life. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of implementing the token economy method in improving oral hygiene in patients with self-care deficits due to mental disorders. Method: An in-depth case study was conducted on one patient diagnosed with self-care deficit using the token economy method as an intervention. Data were collected through observations, a token economy checklist, and self-care (oral hygiene) activity observation sheets for two weeks, from October 20 to November 1, 2025. Analysis focused on improving the patient's oral hygiene score. Results: After two weeks of the token economy intervention, there was a significant improvement in patients' toothbrushing activity, as measured by token scores. Oral hygiene scores improved from poor (10) to fair (30), with patients showing consistent progress in performing self-care independently. Conclusion: This intervention successfully motivated patients to maintain regular and independent oral hygiene. Keywords: Oral Hygiene; Schizophrenia; Self-Care Deficit.

Abstract

This research addresses the contemporary global conflict surrounding transformations in social life through the lens of Critical Theory. The urgency of analyzing the thoughts of Herbert Marcuse and Jürgen Habermas lies in their critical engagement with the rational foundations of the modern social system. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of Marcuse’s and Habermas’s contributions to Critical Theory. The material object of this study is Critical Theory in social science, while the formal object focuses on the specific theories developed by Marcuse and Habermas. Employing a library research method and a comparative approach. Data processing in this study uses descriptive analysis, which means describing the data sources of Marcuse and Habermas’ Critical Theory, then analyzing the descriptive data sources from both Critical Theory thinkers. Marcuse’s key concept is the “one-dimensional man,” reflecting a critique of advanced industrial society, whereas Habermas introduces “communicative action” as a foundation for rational discourse in democratic societies. The differences in these concepts are shaped by their distinct philosophical and socio-historical contexts. The study concludes that Marcuse’s and Habermas’s theories represent a dialectical tension: Marcuse as a thesis with a monolithic representation of modern rationality (instrumental rationality that is adaptive with control, efficiency, and domination), Habermas as an antithesis with a typological representation of instrumental rationality and communicative rationality. Habermas does not reject instrumental rationality, but limits it only to non-human objects. When applied to humans, instrumental rationality causes social pathology. Their synthesis lies in recognizing the role of identity and intersubjective recognition in fostering communicative action. This study implies that the Islamic context in Marcuse and Habermas’ discourse leads to conceptual prospects for social cohesion and justice.
