Abstract

Writing is a foundational skill essential for early childhood academic success, yet children with learning difficulties such as dysgraphia often struggle with basic handwriting, including mathematical symbol writing. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of the Buku Anak Hebat (Great Children’s Book) as an intervention tool to improve number awareness and mathematical writing skills in a kindergarten student with special needs at TK Sari Asih II Yogyakarta. Using a qualitative case study design, the research involved one purposively selected student and was conducted in three phases: initial assessments of visual perception, motor coordination, and basic mathematical skills; followed by two stages of intervention using the Buku Anak Hebat; and systematic evaluation of student performance. The findings showed marked improvements in the student’s ability to write numbers independently, reduced reliance on assistance, and increased confidence and motivation. The intervention successfully stimulated sensory-motor integration and supported procedural memory development through repetitive and engaging visual-kinesthetic activities. These outcomes suggest that consistent, well-structured, and emotionally supportive media can significantly improve foundational writing skills in children with writing difficulties. The study concludes that early, tailored interventions using interactive learning materials can enhance both mechanical and cognitive aspects of mathematical writing in inclusive educational settings.

Abstract

Urban development has significantly altered microclimatic conditions and reduced environmental comfort within urban ecosystems. Green Spaces, as a component of urban forestry, play a vital role in restoring ecological balance by moderating air temperature and enhancing humidity through its vegetation structures. This study examines the contribution of urban vegetation to thermal comfort in three Green Spaces areas of Ternate City—Nukila Park, Oranje Fortress, and Cengkeh Afo—using the humidex index, which integrates air temperature and humidity to assess human thermal comfort. Data collection was conducted over 15 consecutive days at each site across three observation points representing varying canopy densities (dense, sparse, and no canopy) during morning, midday, and afternoon periods. The findings reveal that the highest humidex value occurred at Nukila Park (maximum 50.9 °C), while the lowest was recorded at Cengkeh Afo (minimum 33.6 °C). Dense canopy cover consistently contributed to lower humidex values, indicating its critical role in enhancing thermal comfort and mitigating urban heat stress. Despite all sites falling outside the “comfortable” category (<29 °C), variations in thermal comfort were primarily influenced by vegetation structure, canopy density, elevation, and the surrounding land use. These results underscore the strategic importance of urban forestry planning and the enhancement of vegetation cover to improve microclimatic conditions and support sustainable urban ecosystem management. This study also recommends increasing vegetation canopy cover through the management of green spaces based on local plant species.

Abstract

The limited number of studies on the creativity of Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) students in designing contextual Indonesian language learning serves as the background for this research, given its significant implications for the quality of basic education, particularly in addressing learning loss and pedagogical gaps. The aim of this study is to examine the level of creativity among PGSD students in designing learning models that integrate digital media, socio-cultural contexts, and the needs of elementary school students. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The sample consists of eight PGSD students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the thematic analysis model of Miles and Huberman. The findings show that 75% of the students were able to design self-directed learning modules, 62% integrated digital media such as Quizizz and Canva, and 50% combined them with conventional media such as puzzles and visual aids. These results support Johnson’s theory of contextual learning and Torrance’s theory of creativity. The main conclusion is that PGSD students’ pedagogical creativity develops through hands-on practice, flexible media selection, and an awareness of student characteristics. Theoretical implications include the proposal of a blended contextual learning model, while practical implications involve recommendations for Teacher Education Institutions (LPTKs) to strengthen digital literacy training and project-based curricula. Moreover, this study opens avenues for further research on the effectiveness of hybrid learning models in remote areas.
