Abstract

Indonesia is one of the main exporters of eels in the international market. Over the past few years, Indonesia has experienced a decrease in eel exports, despite a rise in world demand. This has triggered fierce competition between Indonesia and other exporting countries. This research aims to identify the demand and market competition for Indonesian eels in the international market. The analysis method used is the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) Model. The data used is secondary data from Indonesia, China, Malaysia, the United States, India, Denmark, and the Netherlands in the last 11 years (2012 - 2023). The results of this research show that there is tight competition between Indonesia, China, India, and the United States in the international market. Meanwhile, the relationship between Indonesia’s frozen eels and frozen eels from Malaysia, Denmark, and the Netherlands tends not to compete in the international market. Frozen eel from Indonesia is a normal good, so when the price increases, it will cause a decrease in demand. Frozen eel from Indonesia is an inelastic commodity with the lowest elasticity value among other major exporters, so this can be an opportunity for Indonesia to determine the desired price. Overall, Indonesia is the third-largest exporting country that benefits the most when there is an increase in frozen eel export expenditure in the international market.

Abstract

Rice is a staple food for many people worldwide, especially in Asia, including Indonesians, with conventional white rice being the most commonly consumed type. However, conventional white rice has nutritional limitations and a high glycemic index, which can negatively impact health. This study explores consumer preferences and Willingness to Pay (WTP) for porang-based analogue rice as a healthier alternative. Using the Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) method, data were collected from 150 respondents in Bogor, Indonesia, through voluntary response sampling. The results show that attributes such as porang rice type, softness, clear white colour, packaging, well-known brand, ease of preparation, longer shelf life, and health claims significantly influence consumer preferences. Consumers are willing to pay a higher price: IDR 46,040/kg for porang rice, IDR 58,600/kg for soft rice, IDR 43,338/kg for rice with a clear white colour, IDR 61,860/kg for packaged rice, IDR 61,389/kg for rice with a well-known brand, IDR 40,028/kg for rice that is easy to prepare, IDR 41,200/kg for rice with a longer shelf life, and IDR 90,401/kg for rice with health claims. These findings highlight the growing demand for healthier food options and provide valuable insights for producers and marketers to develop effective strategies. Emphasizing product quality and health benefits is crucial to increasing market acceptance of porang-based analogue rice.

Abstract

DKI Jakarta Province is a major consumer area in Indonesia. Due to almost all of the beef demand was supplied from other province and even different islands. One of problems regarding inter-island beef cattle distribution was using cargo ship that has not equipped with special facilities for livestock transportation. Accordingly government make the first investment of livestock vessel namely KM Camara Nusantara (CN) I to smooth livestock distributionto DKI Jakarta Province. The investment cost is very high. Meanwhile economic analysis for the livestock vessel, which is returning with feed cargo to Tenau is feasible based on NPV>0, B/C Ratio>1, IRR>discount rate and Payback Periode is 13.11 year.

Abstract

Smoked fish is one of the processed fish products that provided higer added value. However, there are still great opportunities to increase added value of smoked fish products through upgrading their value chains to make them more competitive and sustainable. This study aims to examine value chain upgrading of the smoked fish in Central Java. The data were obtained from 52 smoked fish value chain actors in Central Java by conducting in-depth interviews. The data was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive analysis of value chain upgrading. The results showed that the smoked fish value chain in Central Java can be upgraded through three upgrading types: product, process, and functional. Product upgrading can be done by using vacuum packaging and food boxes for processors and food stallers respectively.  Process upgrading can be done by adopting fish detection technology (for fisherman) and administrative system applications (for wholesalers and traders). Functional upgrading can be improved by implementing direct selling from processors to restaurants and online marketing for retailers. As these upgrading activites will require additional costs, the smoked fish value chain actors need to consider the costs to get higher benefits in the implementation of value chain upgrading for smoked fish in Central Java.

Abstract

Natural silk is an agribusiness activity consisting of interconnected and interrelated upstream-to-downstream subsystems. It is one of the leading industries in South Sulawesi Province, the national silk-producing region. The government has launched various development programs and policies to increase natural silk production in South Sulawesi Province but has not achieved the expected targets. Therefore, this research analyzed natural silk agribusiness's internal and external environment to formulate alternative and development strategy priorities. The research was conducted in South Sulawesi Province, with a regional focus on Soppeng Regency and Wajo Regency in February – April 2024. The location selection was carried out by purposive sampling, considering that the area is the main priority in developing natural silk in South Sulawesi Province. The selection of respondents used a deterministic approach in the form of purposive sampling, with 41 respondents in the study. Eight experts filling out a pair comparison questionnaire determined the strategy's priority. The research method used is A'WOT Analysis. The research results show that eight alternative strategies were formulated. The main priority is optimizing policies and regulations from departments/agencies related to the development of natural silk, with a weight value of 0.160. It is hoped that all the results of formulating alternative strategies can be considered in developing natural silk agribusiness in South Sulawesi Province.

Abstract

The concept of marketing aims to build, maintain, and enhance mutually beneficial relationships between suppliers and partners. Therefore, this research recommends priority strategies for increasing traditional retail stall loyalty to suppliers in the new digital transformation era. This research was conducted in Indonesia's fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) retail industry with data collected through a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) and in-depth interviews with several experts. These include top management of retail industry supply companies, principal of FMCG, General Chairperson of the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association, Secretary-General of the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and academics who are also practitioners in the retail industry. The data collected were analyzed using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach. The results showed that merchandising and employees are the most dominant factors in forming retail stall loyalty to suppliers in the new digital transformation era. The company's main goal to increase retail stall loyalty to suppliers is by raising sales growth with the continuous rise in profits for supplier companies. Furthermore, the most important alternative strategy to increase retail stall loyalty to suppliers is product assortment and stock availability as the main alternative strategy. In conclusion, this research is useful for supply companies to establish relationships with traditional retail stalls in Indonesia. Keywords: analytical hierarchy process, merchandising, retail industry supplier strategy, retail service quality, website quality
