Abstract

Abstract. Low productivity is one of the main challenges in Indonesia's coffee production system .It is low due to cultivation management; most of the coffee farmer does not manage their plantation base on the coffee phenology phase.  Moreover climate variability and change also have important effect on coffee productivity. Various technologies on adaptation and measurement to climate change and variability have been identified. Unfortunately, the technology which use climate forecast through adjusting cultivation activity and coffee phenology called as cultivation calendar do not exist yet. This paper provides an overview on the impact of climate variability and change to coffee production, the existing adaptation strategy, and the importance of cultivation calendar as a strategy for adapting and increasing productivity, and the potential and challenges to develop cultivation calendar in Indonesia. This review reveals that coffee cultivation calendar is a potential strategy for increaseing productivity and adapting climate change and variability.

Abstract

The mismatch between the availability of vegetables and consumer demand is one of the causes of inefficient supply chains. This study aims to analyze the bullwhip effect on the organic leaf vegetable supply chain at PT Simply Fresh Organic (SFO). The analysis method used is a comparison between the coefficient of variation of orders created with the coefficient of variation in requests received by each supply chain institution. The data used are secondary data obtained from PT SFO. The measurement results show that the supply chain flow of organic leaf vegetables had a bullwhip effect at the PT SFO level and no bullwhip effect occurs at the retail level. The value of the BE supply chain value calculation at PT SFO shows a higher figure than at the retail level. The bullwhip effect at PT SFO occurred because of a rationing and shortage gaming policy. Therefore, each member of the supply chain must maintain transparency of data information and utilize digital technology to improve the accuracy of data forecasting requests and reservations quickly.

Abstract

Abstract

In Indonesia, corn mainly use as feeds in particular for poultry. Sustainable national corn self-sufficiency is an ideal condition for Indonesia which has the availability   natural resources and supporting agro-ecological environment. The gap between supply and demand of corn is still relatively large due to the high demand of corn, especially for feed. To attain national corn self-sufficiency, the Government intervened national corn supply by implementing  of the national corn self-sufficiency policy. This study aims to analyze the increase of corn extensification and productivity by dynamic system approach. Validation on the built-in model showed that the model was valid. The simulation results showed that before the implementation of corn self-sufficiency policy Indonesia was unable to achieve self-sufficiency, and, on the other hand, after the policy implementation the simulation result showed that the sustainable corn self-sufficiency is attainable. Model simulation results showed that extensification and productivity improvement strategies (combined scenario of increased extensification and productivity) were able to increase the production of corn to as many as 25.85 million tonnes through extensification increase and 26.69 million tons through productivity increase.

Abstract

EnglishThe Coffee and Farmer Equity (CAFE) Practices is a sustainable coffee farming and handling program initiated by Starbucks Coffee Company. The CAFE Practices program offers economic benefits through increased coffee productivity and quality, better market access, and higher coffee prices. The program, however, potentially increases the production costs needed to implement better cultivation practices according to the CAFE Practices protocol. This study aims to analyze the impact of CAFE Practices program on coffee farming income in Enrekang Regency, and to track down the income impact pathways. This study used primary data from 200 coffee farmers in Enrekang Regency. The data were analyzed using the Propensity Score Matching method. The results showed that the CAFE Practices participating farmers had 18.55% higher farm income than non-CAFE Practices farmers. The change in the CAFE Practices participating farmers was due to increasing farm productivity by 16.66%, increasing production costs by 24.38%, and increasing selling prices by 2.95%. CAFE Practices farmers should be able to maintain or increase their coffee productivity and quality in order to continue to receive high incomes. They also need financial support from the government and/or Starbucks to meet the higher cost of implementing the CAFE Practices program.

Abstract

Demand for food products is inevitable, this condition is related to food products as a staple food for the sustainability of human life. In Indonesia, the demand for food depends very much on the needs of the people. The purpose of this study is to analyze food demand in Indonesia which is divided into 4 categories of regions: rich cities, poor cities, rich villages, and poor villages need through research that can be obtained about getting assistance in accordance with the consumption demand of people in Indonesia. The research method used secondary data with panel data types obtained from SUSENAS data. The analytical method used to estimate the demand system was through econometrics demand, namely the QUAIDS model and then the data were processed using the SAS program. The results showed a comparison of the total number of households allocated specifically for food if sorted out, namely poor villages were higher then followed by poor cities, rich cities, and rich villages. When there is a change in income, poor rural households and poor cities when the public still responds by allocating a large part of their budgets to very basic trade such as other food and tobacco, rice, other oils, and household fats in rich villages and rich cities provide more responses to allocating their incomes to the trade in meat, fruits, vegetables, fish, eggs, milk, and processed foods.
