Abstract

Many researchers have examined students' perceptions of World English. However, little research has been conducted on what teachers in East Borneo think about this topic. Therefore, it is important to find out whether EFL East Borneo teachers are able to teach and introduce the concept of International English. This research seeks to examine East Borneo EFL instructors' beliefs of World Englishes and their application of these varieties in the classroom. The subjects were thirty EFL English instructors in Balikpapan, Samarinda, Kutai Kartanegara, Bontang, Kutai Timur, PPU, and Berau District of East Borneo Province. The method used to gather data was a questionnaire with Likert scales and open-ended questions on teachers' attitudes and practices towards World Englishes. Percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used to examine the data (S.D). The study's results found that East Borneo EFL teachers executed their ideas by teaching students to communicate like native speakers. They generally expose students to standard English in terms of accents, grammar, vocabulary, idioms, and the use of a standard English dictionary. On the other hand, they followed the World Englishes paradigm in educating culture, choosing and using books and resources with varying levels of English.

Abstract

Antibiotic resistance has now become a global problem that can endanger livestock. The use of antibiotics as a trigger for the growth of livestock can have an impact on humans. This study investigated the antibiotic resistance of Ciprofloxacin and Erythromycin against Escherichia coli. 14 samples of E.coli were isolated from the intestinal colon of chickens that were kept conventionally by broiler breeders in Yogyakarta. E.coli isolates were cultured on Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (EMB) media for 24 hours at the Bacteriology Laboratory of the Indonesian Veterinary Research Institute (BBLITVET), Bogor, Indonesia. Ciprofloxacin and Erythromycin antibiotic discs were placed on EMB media and then incubated for 24 hours at 37oC. The diameter of the clear zone of inhibition and the zone of resistance inhibition was measured on each repetition using the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standard. The results obtained showed that the antibiotic Erythromycin had higher resistance than Ciprofloxacin. In conclusion, these two antibiotics can be categorized as susceptible or sensitive to E. coli bacteria

Abstract

This study utilises a mixed-method approach to analyse the impact and usage of mobile technology among Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers and students. The study examines gender factors to understand their interrelation with mobile technology usage. Using online survey questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, this research explores the viewpoints of 150 English educators and 215 secondary students in Indonesia, concentrating on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Mobile Technology Impact (MTI). The findings demonstrate a clear link between TAM and MTI for both teacher and student cohorts. Male and female students typically hold similar perceptions of TAM and MTI, with the exception of the aspect of promoting collaborative learning. Female students demonstrate a more favourable outlook in this regard. In contrast, teachers uniformly perceive TAM and MTI regardless of their gender. Additionally, the promotion of collaborative learning appears as the least important factor in both Structural Equation Models (SEMs). These discoveries have implications for mobile device incorporation in English classrooms, highlighting the necessity for custom approaches to satisfy diverse perceptions and demographics.

Abstract

This study intends to investigate the effect of short story extensive reading on secondary school students’ EFL reading attitudes. This is an experimental study using a one-grouppretest-treatment-posttest design. The sample was 35 students, who were taken randomly from 355 Students of twelve classes in the second grade of SMAN 4 Samarinda. The researchers used a questionnaire as the instrument in this study. The questionnaire was used to obtain the data on students’ reading attitudes. To analyze the data, a series of paired t-tests and descriptive statistics were used. The results revealed that firstly, overall aspect, the short story-extensive reading gave an effect on the EFL secondary school students’ reading attitudes, t (34)= -1.229, p=0.003. Secondly, in detail per an aspect of attitude, the short story-extensive reading gave an effect on the comfort aspect in the students’ reading attitudes, t (34)= -3.610, p=0.001, the linguistic value aspect, t (34)= 0.463, p=0.646, and the anxiety aspect, t (34)= -3.762, p=0.001; In the meantime, the short story-extensive reading did not give an effect on the intellectual value aspect in the students’ reading attitudes, t (34)= -0.269, p=0.789 and the practical value aspect, t (34)= -0.179, p=0.859. Reading short stories brings about the students into a relaxed circumstance from which EFL secondary school students can browse ideas freely and excitingly. This study implies that such reading materials can be used by secondary school EFL teachers to give more reading input-rich circumstances, which finally becomes an enhancement of their reading attitudes. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the fiscal decentralization component on poverty, directly or indirectly, through pro-poor expenditures in Special Regions of Yogyakarta. The Privileges of the Special Region of Yogyakarta mentioned what distinguishes it from the other provinces so that it is called a special region is the privilege to establish a social order that guarantees diversity and the critical role of the Sultanate and Duchy of Pakualaman in preserving culture. However, poverty in the Special Region of Yogyakarta is spread in every district. On the other side, more than two decades of efforts to address poverty have been through fiscal decentralization. During the era of fiscal decentralization, there were problems from the revenue and expenditure sides. It is a question related to the successful implementation of fiscal decentralization. This study uses path analysis with secondary data. The result of this study is that the component of local revenue can play a role in poverty reduction directly through local-own source revenue. The indirectly effect shows that poverty alleviation can also be done through the role of local-own source revenue through pro-poor expenditure instruments.

Abstract

Background: The literature on the management of anaphylactic shock highlights a critical need for immediate and effective interventions to mitigate the potentially fatal consequences of this medical emergency. Literature Review: The literature underscores the necessity of comprehensive patient education and the development of written emergency treatment plans, particularly for individuals at risk of severe allergic reactions. This proactive approach is vital for effective anaphylaxis management, as it empowers patients and caregivers to recognize symptoms and respond appropriately. The emphasis on having multiple epinephrine auto-injectors available is also crucial, given that some patients may require repeated doses during an anaphylactic episode. Conclusion: The significance of accurate diagnosis and triage grading in emergency treatment is also emphasized, as misdiagnosis can lead to inadequate treatment and potentially fatal outcomes (Dondi et al., 2022) . Collectively, these articles illustrate that while progress has been made in understanding and managing anaphylaxis, ongoing challenges persist that require a concerted effort from healthcare professionals, patients, and the broader community to enhance educational initiatives and improve emergency response capabilities.

Abstract

Red spinach leaf (Amaranthus tricolor L.) has been well-proven to contain flavonoids that exhibit antioxidant activities. In this study, a comparison between maceration and ultrasonic methods has been carried out to evaluate the effect of these two methods on the level of red spinach leaf flavonoid. In this study, for maceration 1, 2, and 3 days while for the ultrasonic method 10-, 20-, and 30-minutes time duration have been used. The ratios of material and solvent were 1:5 and 1:10. The flavonoid content was determined with the help of a spectrophotometer at a maximum wavelength of 436.80 nm. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by the DPPH method to obtain the IC50. The result of the study revealed that the highest flavonoid content of 4.27 mgQE/g and antioxidant activity (IC50) of 110.47 ppm were obtained by an ultrasonic under conditions of 1:10 ratio and 30-minute extraction time. Results of the study suggested a significant difference (p<0,05) in the isolation of total flavonoid contents and antioxidant activities in the maceration and ultrasonic. In these two methods, ultrasonic was found to be more efficient than maceration because of minimum time, the highest flavonoid content and antioxidant activity could be obtained.

Abstract

The informal sector in the labor market is often regarded as filled with low-quality, low-productivity, low-wage jobs. However, in Indonesia, the informal sector is important in absorbing more than half of the total workforce and providing subsistence wages for those not absorbed in the formal labor market. This study used SUSENAS microdata to determine the workforce determinants in working in the formal and informal sectors. The study results show that higher education, male gender, and living in an urban area increased one's chances of working in the formal sector. This study also found an inverted u-shaped curve on age, where a person's tendency to work in the formal sector would increase at the beginning of their productive age and decrease after entering the age of 27. Marital status in this study increased opportunities to work in the informal sector. This research may use to improve the labor policy and improve the job opportunity in both formal and informal sector.
