Abstract

Banana cultivation particularly Kepok bananas, plays a significant role as a commercial commodity in the Mentawai Islands Regency. This study aims to assess the developing a banana flour processing industry in the region by analyzing the commodity's potential, determining suitable locations, and evaluating industrial feasibility.   The approach method for the feasibility study of the banana flour industry consists of 1) analysis of the potential of banana commodities in the Mentawai Islands Regency, 2) determination of the location of the banana flour processing industry, 3) feasibility study of the banana flour agro-industry, and 4) recommendations for the feasibility of the banana flour industry in the Mentawai Islands Regency. The research was carried out from May to November 2024.  The data collected includes primary data and secondary data.  Several questionnaires were used in the data collection process, including other questionnaires for farmers (62 persons), extension workers (12 persons), trader collectors (6 persons), and stakeholders (representation from 15 institutions). The data obtained were then analyzed using several analyses, including analysis of the current condition of banana farming management, business sustainability analysis,  and SWOT analysis. The findings indicate that Kepok banana cultivation in the region is highly favorable, supported by suitable agronomic conditions. Furthermore, the feasibility assessment demonstrates the potential for success across agronomy, technology, processing, management, socio-economic benefits, and administrative aspects. Establishing a banana flour processing industry is expected to optimize the use of local banana resources and generate economic benefits. It is anticipated that these initiatives will not only enhance the efficiency of banana utilization but also improve the welfare of banana farming families in the Mentawai Islands Regency. This study emphasizes the strategic importance of agro-industrial development in empowering rural communities.

Abstract

The participation of women, particularly mothers, in the workforce has continued to increase, bringing various challenges in balancing work demands and family responsibilities, which may affect family well-being. This study aimed to analyze the effects of maternal work motivation and work–family balance on family well-being and to examine their implications for children’s educational development.  The study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design using a survey method conducted across Indonesia. Data were collected through a survey method involving families with working mothers who had preschool- and school-aged children. The respondents were mothers, and the study covered several regions in Indonesia. A total of 108 families participated in this study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results indicated that maternal work motivation, work–family balance, and family well-being were generally at a moderate level (57.4%). Economic motivation was identified as the dominant reason for mothers to engage in paid work. The SEM analysis revealed that work–family balance had a significant positive direct effect on family well-being. In addition, maternal work motivation had a positive effect (with coefficient 0.577) on both work–family balance (with coefficient 0.479) and family well-being. These findings highlight the importance of maternal work motivation and balanced role management in promoting family well-being among working-mother families. One implication of this research is that working mothers can continue to play an active role in their children's educational development while effectively maintaining a conducive learning environment at home, thereby contributing significantly to the implementation of education within the family.

Abstract

The development of tourism villages in Bogor Regency, particularly in Sukajadi Village, Tamansari District, confronts various challenges, encompassing issues about establishing local tourism management institutions, small-scale business development, promotional strategies, product packaging, and environmental sustainability. These challenges are addressed through the implementation of the Community Partnership Empowerment (PKM) initiative within the framework of Community-Based Tourism (CBT) in collaboration with the Tourism Awareness Group (Sukajadi Village) as the partnering institution. The objectives of the PKM CBT endeavour are as follows: 1) To enhance tourism awareness among Sukajadi village residents; 2) To augment the capacity of the Pokdarwis institution in effectively managing the tourism potential of Sukajadi Village as a CBT destination; 3) To improve the proficiency in crafting promotional content for tourist attractions to reach individuals beyond Bogor Regency and City; and 4) To enhance the skills in packaging products of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to render them more appealing as flagship offerings. The conducted activities encompass 1) The execution of the CBT Development Workshop involving diverse representatives of community figures; 2) The House Charm Competition targeting the general public; 3) Training sessions on the Analysis of SME and Village Tourism Potential with the participation of Pokdarwis management and community figures and; and 4) Training on the packaging of tourism products for SMEs, coupled with the promotion of CBT to Pokdarwis management. The outcomes of this PKM initiative reveal an elevation in knowledge, attitudes, and competencies related to tourism management among Pokdarwis administrators. At the institutional level, PKM serves to enhance the planning capabilities of Pokdarwis in the development of community-based tourism and the promotion of tourism initiatives. This, in turn, is anticipated to positively impact the local community's income through CBT enterprises and foster a heightened awareness of tourism among the general public.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates that adolescent communication is influenced by various factors, including individual characteristics, parents, and peers. This study aims to analyze the influence of adolescent characteristics on their communication patterns with parents and peers, examine how parental characteristics affect communication with adolescents, identify the role of peers in shaping adolescent communication patterns, and explore the relationship between adolescent interpersonal communication and the tendency toward negative behaviors such as bullying. This research employs a quantitative approach, analyzing data from 481 respondents. The findings indicate that age, gender, and birth order influence the intensity and openness of adolescent communication. Parental characteristics, including age, education, and occupation, also determine family communication patterns, with parents with higher education levels tending to have more democratic communication styles. Furthermore, peers play a significant role in shaping adolescent communication patterns and behavior, particularly in social and psychological aspects. Poor interpersonal communication with parents correlates with an increased risk of negative behaviors such as bullying. This study concludes that effective family communication and the influence of the social environment are crucial in shaping adolescent interactions.

Abstract

Red-picking is the key to good coffee quality and is essential for increasing farmers’ income, added value, competitiveness, and development. Knowledge-sharing is one solution to improve the knowledge confidence of farmers and the reach of dissemination of red-picking practices. This research aims to determine the diversity of knowledge-sharing behavior related to red-picking practices according to farmers’ socio-economic status. This research was conducted in a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative approach and case study strategy. According to specific characteristics, seven primary informants were determined by staged, purposive, and peer group discussions. Temanggung coffee stakeholders take part as supporting informants. Interviews, focus group discussions, social media and document observations, expert discussions, peer group discussions, literature reviews, and documentation were used to collect research data. The data were analyzed qualitatively using the NVivo 12 Plus. Research has found that diversity of knowledge-sharing tends to encourage red-picking practices. The research findings also stated that group farmers with an area of land ≤ 1 ha, younger generation group farmers, group farmers with roles as gathering traders, and group farmers who use social media have more diverse knowledge-sharing behaviors. The practice of red-picking can be encouraged by supporting farmers in carrying out knowledge-sharing activities with other farmers with different characteristics. This study implies that the resulting findings will enrich the concept of knowledge-sharing by describing how people utilize social and offline media in sharing knowledge to encourage red-picking practices.

Abstract

The epidemiological transition has occurred significantly over the last two decades, with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) becoming the main burden. In context of health communication, health campaign activities are expected to reduce these problems. The objective of the research is to analyze health communication channels and the relationship between health communication channels and health behavior. Data were collected by applying a survey method using a self-administered questionnaire. The survey was conducted in Depok City, West Java, Indonesia. Respondents were residents of aged fifteen years and over, who had been exposed to health promotion campaigns or activities from the various communication channels used. Total sample size was 120 respondents. Univariate analysis was applied to get frequency distribution tables, while bivariate analysis was applied using Pearson correlation analysis. The research results indicate that majority of the residents are still in moderate category with regard to implementing health behaviors. There are still many people, who implement unhealthy behaviors, particularly with regard to regular health checks. Secondly, the frequency of use of health promotion communication channels remains low. New media channels, interpersonal media and community media are three channels that are perceived as trustworthy, attractive and credible. Thirdly, this study found that the frequency of using communication channels, channel trustworthiness, attractiveness and credibility have a significant relationship with health behavior. The findings of this study have implications for health campaign program designers, who should consider including campaign messages that can lead to improve public health behavior and prevent the occurrence of NCDs.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate a communication strategy for sustainable forest farmer groups (FFG) in Jatimulyo Village, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data were collected from 58 respondents who are members of the Wanapaksi FFG and analyzed using SEM-PLS based Importance Performance Map Analysis (IPMA), while qualitative data were gathered from 9 key informants to deepen the analysis results. The results indicate that the sustainability of the FFG is influenced by a participatory communication ecosystem. Based on the IPMA mapping, the indicators identified as top priorities for improvement (Quadrant IV) are the effectiveness of liberating pedagogy, participation (voice), and managerial capacity. All of which are highly important but currently underperforming. The communication strategy is framed within the “Wanapaksi Merekat: Listening to One Another, Managing Wisely, Growing Together Toward Sustainability” program, organised into five operational stages: research, planning, implementation, measurement, and reporting. This strategy focuses on creating safe spaces for dialogue, integrated governance training, and experiential learning to support the achievement of SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Abstract

The utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is generally considered as a strategy to achieve goals in addressing development challenges and social changes faced by communities. The implementation of ICT in the development of Smart Villages is an effort to effectively utilize technology in order to enhance the quality of life and public services at the village level. The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of information systems on the acceptance of technology in the development of Smart Villages in Hanura Village, Teluk Pandan District, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province, and Kertayasa Village, Sindang Agung District, Kuningan Regency, West Java Province. The research is designed as a quantitative approach supported by qualitative data (mixed methods). The research sample consists of 194 individuals selected through purposive sampling. The data collected includes primary and secondary data. Primary data is gathered through interviews using a questionnaire guide and field observations. Data analysis involves descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings of the study indicate that information quality has a positive and significant influence on the perceived usefulness of ICT and the perceived ease of use of ICT. Service quality has a positive and significant influence on all three dimensions of technology acceptance. However, there is no significant influence between system quality and user satisfaction with ICT. These results highlight the importance of attention to the quality of information delivered and the quality of services provided in the development of Smart Villages to enhance the acceptance and benefits of ICT utilization in Smart Village development.
