Abstract

Flipped classroom is a sort of blended learning in which students learn both synchronously and asynchronously. Synchronous learning has taken place in the classroom in real time. Learners gather feedback while communicating with teachers and classmates at the same time. This review expects to figure out how is the execution and effect of Flipped Classroom in Science Learning (Contextual analysis During the Covid-19 Pandemic) of Class VIII at SMPN 3 Rantau Bayur. This study used a case study as an approach in exploring qualitative data. This examination is a distinct subjective exploration as a contextual analysis with information assortment methods as polls and meetings. The results of this review demonstrate that the execution and effect of flipped classroom in science learning during the Covid-19 pandemic is positive, particularly for class VIII students in science subjects at SMPN 3 Rantau Bayur with a typical rate gain of 76.7% or the category of ‘very good’. Through the flipped classroom, students have the opportunity to concentrate on the topic at home as they are free to set their learning time. Students become familiar with the topic in an enjoyable situation. Students can repeat the learning videos and they are able to access them from anywhere. Besides, parents can participate in learning activities outside the classroom and make time to help their children learn. However, one of the drawbacks is the lack of devices to watch videos given by the teacher as not all students have computers, laptops, or smartphones. Also, the teachers still find difficulties in preparing good quality videos as learning media for students.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of project-based learning integrated with STEM (PjBL-STEM) using online games to enhance critical thinking skills among junior high school students on the topic of energy and its changes. A mixed-method approach with a sequential explanatory design was used in this study. The quantitative phase involved pretests and posttests using a standardized critical thinking skills test, while the qualitative phase included observations of student activities during learning. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 03 Belitang Madang Raya, involving eighth-grade students divided into experimental and control groups in the odd semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. The experimental group (32 students) implemented the PjBL-STEM model using Minecraft Education, while the control group (23 students) received conventional instruction. Data analysis included Rasch modeling for pretest and posttest results, N-gain calculations to measure learning effectiveness, and thematic analysis of observation data to assess student engagement and application of STEM concepts. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group's critical thinking skills, with an N-gain score of 0.60 (effective category) compared to 0.04 (less effective category) in the control group. Projects such as wind, hydroelectric, and solar power plants, developed in Minecraft Education, highlighted students' ability to integrate scientific knowledge, engineering principles, and teamwork. Observations showed active engagement and collaboration among experimental group students during the project design and implementation phases, which were absent in the control group. This study demonstrates that integrating online games into PjBL-STEM provides an effective approach to enhancing 21st-century skills. The results underscore the potential for adapting this model to diverse educational settings and materials. However, differences in students' technological skills remain challenging, suggesting additional support and scaffolding.         Keywords: critical thinking skills, energy, minecraft education, online games, PjBL-STEM DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1361-1377

Abstract

Urban farming has been associated with sustainable living in urbanized areas. However, theinterconnection between the two need further studies. Alternatives for promoting sustainable living is especially in important in Indonesia because urbanization in the country is expanding, while the area of productive agricultural land is decreasing. The limited spaces become a challenge for urban residents that need land for settlements, planting, green open spaces, spaces for interaction and socializing, and recreation. Therefore, urban farming presents an alternative in answering the problems caused by urbanization. This research aims to explore the interconnection of urban farming and urbanization in an effort to realize sustainable urbandevelopment. This research is the initial part of an effort to create an integrated model of urban farming for urbanization for food security for urban residents (2023-2025) in the Innovation Research for Advanced Indonesia (RIIM) scheme. This study uses qualitative methods withinformants as a sample data source. Informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique, totaling 30 urban farming actors, with details of 10 informants from Palembang City, 10 from Bandung City, and 10 from Denpasar City. Collection through the stages of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis uses the Miles and Hubberman Model with three stages, namely data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The data validity test technique uses triangulation with the cross-check method. The results of the analysis found an interrelation between urban farming and urbanization in nine dimensions, namely; economy, social, environment, health, culture, food, education, tourism, and technology. The interrelationship between urban farming and urbanization is positive, which means that the positive impact of urban farming has an indication of minimizing the negative impact of urbanization. In addition, this interrelation is also relevant to the three principles of sustainable development, namely having the function of controlling environmental impacts to a minimum, economic and social functions.
