Abstract

The increasing prevalence of intolerance, hate speech, and socio-religious polarization in Indonesia highlights the urgent need to reaffirm Qur'anic ethical values in social relations. This study examines QS. Al-Mumtahanah [60]:8 as a normative foundation for tolerance grounded in al-birr (active social goodness) and al-qisth (proportional justice), a verse that has received relatively limited focused attention in Qur'anic tolerance studies. Employing a qualitative approach with a thematic-contextual (maudhu'i-contextual) method, this research treats QS. Al-Mumtahanah:8 as the primary data, supported by classical and modern Qur'anic commentaries. The analysis integrates linguistic, historical (asbab al-nuzul), and comparative approaches to the interpretations of Muslim exegetes. The findings demonstrate that tolerance in this verse is not conceived as passive conflict avoidance, but as an active ethical commitment to benevolence and justice toward those of different faiths who do not engage in hostility. This study proposes a constructive and applicable model of Qur'anic tolerance relevant to Indonesia's multicultural society and contributes to the strengthening of religious moderation and inclusive Islamic literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the meaning of istidraj in QS. Al-An'am verse 44 based on the perspective of tafsir Al-Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab, and relate it to the phenomenon of life in the contemporary era. This study is motivated by the widespread phenomenon of worldly pleasures that are often mistaken for blessings, even though it could be a form of hidden test. The method used is library research, by examining relevant classical and contemporary tafsir literature. The results showed that istidraj is a form of test from Allah in the form of sustenance and success that actually plunges a person into spiritual negligence. Tafsir Al-Mishbah emphasizes that istidraj is not only a phenomenon of the past, but applies throughout the ages. In conclusion, understanding istidraj is very important so that Muslims are not trapped in the illusion of worldly pleasures, and always increase gratitude and faith as a form of protection from these deceptions.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought convenience in accessing religious information, including interpretations of the Qur'an. However, this convenience also presents serious challenges, particularly regarding the potential distortion of the meaning of jihad verses by the general public. Jihad verses have become a primary focus because they are often misunderstood and misused in contexts of violence or extremism, even though these verses possess complex historical backgrounds, conditions, and contexts. When such verses are quoted indiscriminately on digital platforms without adequate explanation, they can lead to serious social and ideological consequences. This study aims to examine the impact of digitalization on the interpretation of jihad verses, focusing on the forms of distortion, causal factors, and the resulting social impacts. Using a descriptive qualitative approach based on literature review and digital content observation, this research finds that jihad verses are frequently cited in a partial and literal manner, without regard to their historical context (asbāb al-nuzūl) or authoritative exegesis. The main contributing factors are low levels of digital religious literacy and the dominance of social media algorithms. This distortion fosters narrow fanaticism, potential radicalization, social polarization, and a negative image of Islam. Strengthening digital religious literacy and reinforcing the role of scholars in the digital da'wah ecosystem are necessary solutions.

Abstract

This research is based on the results of observations and interviews conducted with several elementary school students who attended the afternoon Al-Quran Education Park (TPA) at An-Naml Qur'an House, Surakarta that during the process of delivering tajweed material the teacher only used the lecture method, which is a classical method that only conveys material by using oral and students listen to it. As a result, this method does not involve students, so it is felt that this method is less effective for tajweed material which is the main support in learning the Koran. Based on these facts, researchers then conducted a study that aims to determine the effectiveness, practicality and validity of interactive multimedia-based "tajweed" teaching materials for elementary school students in learning the Quran. The model used in this development research is ADDIE. There are 5 stages carried out, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The method was chosen to achieve the research objectives, namely the effectiveness of this interactive multimedia-based learning method.

Abstract

The topic of Muslim women’s attire is always an intriguing subject of study, particularly within the discourse of contemporary Islam, where its relevance remains a subject of ongoing debate. Differences in methodology and contextual perspectives often fuel these debates across various circles, including discussions regarding the transformation of the definition of “aurat” from classical fiqh to a contextual approach. This paper aims to examine the similarities and differences in the interpretations of M. Quraish Shihab and Wahbah az-Zuhaili in their works, Tafsir al-Misbah and Tafsir al-Munir, as well as al-Fiqh al-Islami wa Adillatuhu, regarding the boundaries of women’s aurat. This paper is based on qualitative research using a literature review (library research) methodology. The research data was analyzed using the comparative exegesis (tafsir muqaran) method through the steps of data display, identifying characteristics, and critical evaluation. The research focuses on two main verses: Surah al-Ahzab [33]:59 and Surah an-Nur [24]:31. The results of this study indicate that M. Quraish Shihab and Wahbah az-Zuhaili share the view that the face and palms are not considered aurat in principle. However, they differ in their methodologies and the nature of the legal ruling regarding the hijab; Shihab places greater emphasis on cultural standards of modesty ('urf), while Az-Zuhaili adheres to classical legal standards that are fixed in nature as a form of worship and moral protection.

Abstract

The reflective paper aimed to describe the urgency of the tarjih in the Qur'an interpretation. This study departs from anxiety about role of interpretation in enlighting human actions. The study based on that the Qur’an messages, its commentaries and the human actions should realize circular relations that enlighten each other and continue the dynamics of humanity. It focuses on the urgency of tarjih to enlighten human actions and how the tarjih method developed by interpreters. It is a qualitative descriptive writing by referring various related references, especially in the field of interpretation which is analyzed by the content analysis method. Its result is that the interpretation has an urgent role at theoretical and practical levels in Qur'an understanding. In addition, there are four ways in the tarjih of Qur’an interpretations, namely: tarjih with the Qur'an, tarjih with al-hadith, tarjih with language, and tarjih with context.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the construction of Generation Z's understanding of the concept of ghadul bashar, evaluate its implementation in the practice of using social media, and identify the complexity of ethical challenges that arise in the digital ecosystem. Theoretical framework: A theoretical framework integrating the principle of Ghadul Bashar in Islamic shari'a (QS. An-Nur 30–31) with the perspective of digital ethics and media behavior theory, to explain the interaction between religious normative values and the algorithmic logic of social media. Literature review: While Islamic ethical literature emphasizes self-discipline and visual control, studies of digital media show the dominance of algorithms, visual culture, and FOMO that tend to weaken such controls, thus indicating a tension between religious norms and contemporary digital practices. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with an exploratory design, through the extraction of empirical data from students as a representation of Generation Z, which is thematically analyzed to identify patterns of understanding and practice. Results: The findings show that there is a structural dilemma between the demands of shari'a and digital reality. The understanding of informants is heterogeneous, while key challenges include algorithmic pressure, automated scrolling behavior, normalization of visual content, FOMO, and the ambiguity of ethical boundaries in the digital space. Implications: Theoretically, this study expands the discourse of Islamic ethics in a digital context. Practically, this research offers an integrative approach based on Islamic digital literacy, self-reflection (muhasabah), optimization of content control features, and strengthening digital communities. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the synthesis between classical Islamic ethical concepts and algorithmic dynamics of social media, as well as the emphasis on Generation Z's lived experience in facing digital ethical dilemmas.
