Abstract

Pesantren are the oldest Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, broadly categorized into two main models: salafi and modern pesantren. Each features distinct curriculum systems, educational philosophies, and responses to national education policies. This study aims to compare the dynamics of these two pesantren models within the framework of Islamic education policy in Indonesia. Employing a descriptive-qualitative approach through literature and policy analysis, this article critically examines their similarities and differences. The findings indicate that salafi pesantren excel in preserving classical Islamic scholarship and instilling strong religious values, yet are less responsive to the demands of the national education system. In contrast, modern pesantren are more adaptive to the national curriculum and contemporary needs, though they risk losing their traditional pesantren identity. Both face challenges in systemically integrating with existing national education policies. Therefore, this article recommends the development of a more integrative and contextual Islamic education policy model that accommodates the unique characteristics of both pesantren types within the national education framework. The study contributes to shaping a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable reform of Islamic education in Indonesia. Keywords: salafi pesantren, modern pesantren, Islamic education policy

Abstract

Background. This study aims to explore and analyze the implementation of strategy management at the Police Academy (Police College) of Bengkulu Regional Police (SPN POLDA Bengkulu) in its efforts to improve student quality and its impact on graduate outcomes. The objective of this study is not only important for the development of education at the Bengkulu Regional Police Academy, but also contributes to a broader discourse on strategic management practices in other educational institutions. Therefore, these findings are expected to serve as a reference in decision-making and policy formulation aimed at improving the quality of education in law enforcement institutions. Methods. The methodology used in this study is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data were obtained through observational interviews and document studies from 12 key informants over a period of three months (May-July 2023). Thematic analysis was conducted through coding and categorization, with data validity ensured through triangulation, member checking, and peer debriefing, as well as based on research ethics. This study aims to analyze and describe the implementation of strategic management in SPN administration, particularly in efforts to improve the competence and readiness of students as prospective police officers.Results. Research findings indicate that strategic management at the Bengkulu Regional Police Headquarters is implemented through focused vision and mission planning, strategic environmental analysis, and active leadership involvement in the decision-making process. These strategies have had a positive impact on the quality of graduates, as evidenced by improvements in professionalism, discipline, and operational readiness in task forces. Policy and strategy evaluations show that program implementation is relatively effective, although challenges remain in areas such as supervision and sustainability. Conclusion. This study recommends strengthening the monitoring system, continuing character development programs, and optimizing the role of instructors to further improve student quality.

Abstract

This article aims to explore and analyze the concept and implementation of ethical leadership within the Islamic education system from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The data in this study were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method through library research. The researchers collected information from academic journals, books, and policy documents related to Islamic education and leadership ethics. They then used content analysis to review and compare the information, looking for patterns and key ideas. The analysis was guided by theories of ethical leadership and focused on how these ideas are applied in real Islamic educational institutions. The findings indicate that ethical leadership plays a central role in strengthening organizational culture, managing conflict, enhancing work motivation, and improving strategic decision-making in Islamic educational institutions. Core values such as honesty, trustworthiness, justice, deliberation, and exemplary behavior are essential foundations that must be internalized by every Islamic educational leader. The prophetic leadership model, which emphasizes moral and spiritual dimensions, is considered ideal for developing transformative and competitive educational institutions. Therefore, strengthening ethical leadership is a strategic necessity for realizing a quality and character-based Islamic education system.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the implementation of strategic management in the Strategic Plan (Renstra) of the Kepahiang Regency Inspectorate and its contribution to improving more transparent and accountable education governance. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative with a case study method, which focuses on document analysis, observation, and relevant documentation. The research stages include preliminary studies, data collection, data analysis using the SWOT model, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the Renstra of the Inspectorate has adopted strategic principles well, including vision, mission, strategic objectives, and performance indicators that support the strengthening of the Inspectorate's role in supervising the education sector. Strengths such as the integrity of human resources, a well-planned supervisory structure, and central policy support are important institutional assets. However, there are still weaknesses in terms of the limited number of auditors, follow-up on supervisory results, and the use of information technology. External opportunities, such as the push for bureaucratic reform and strengthening inter-institutional synergy, need to be leveraged to address threats such as low commitment from education-related government agencies. The discussion indicates that the success of oversight depends heavily on the consistent implementation of strategic management and the internalization of values such as trustworthiness, accountability, and integrity, as emphasized in the perspective of Islamic Education Management.

Abstract

Strategic planning is a critical instrument for enhancing governance in State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) in Indonesia. This study explores the structure, content, and role of strategic plans within PTKIN as tools to align institutional goals with national educational policies, including the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka program and the Religious Moderation Roadmap. Utilizing qualitative document analysis, this research used SWOT and TOWS frameworks to formulate adaptive strategies that address internal strengths and weaknesses as well as external opportunities and threats. The instrument also joined with the synthesis of many successful cases of strategic planning reported and government perspectives in many studies. The findings indicate that while PTKIN have developed comprehensive strategic plans, challenges persist in their implementation, particularly regarding monitoring, stakeholder involvement, and integration of moderate Islamic values into operational activities. The study concludes that effective strategic planning, supported by participatory processes, outcome-based indicators, and financial diversification, is essential for PTKIN to achieve sustainable institutional development and contribute meaningfully to national and global educational goals.

Abstract

AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is a technology developed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. The use of AI remains a hot topic in both developed and developing countries as the technology continues to advance. AI is considered to have significant potential in revolutionizing the education sector due to its ability to provide more personalized learning experiences. However, the emergence of AI also raises various concerns about the potential threats it poses to the education system. This research aims to further discuss the opportunities and threats of using AI in learning within Islamic higher education. This study employs a qualitative research method as it seeks to understand and describe the phenomena related to its research subjects. A phenomenological approach is used, focusing on the essence of the data, which is factual and based on the experiences of the research subjects, or the invariant structure, which pertains to how the subjects interpret their experiences. The research was conducted at the State Islamic Institute of Curup, and the subjects included students, lecturers, and administrative staff at the institute. Data were collected through interviews and observations and were processed and analyzed using data triangulation techniques. The results of this study indicate that AI holds great potential for Islamic higher education in both the educational and administrative fields. In education, AI can enhance the efficiency of learning, while in administration, AI can simplify tasks and boost the productivity of educational staff. Alongside these significant opportunities, AI also brings threats. The emergence of laziness, the tendency to take tasks lightly, and dependence on AI are major concerns in its usage. Additionally, automation in administration poses a threat to the need for administrative staff, as their roles may be replaced by AI.
