Abstract

Traditional mentoring within teacher education often struggles with inconsistent interaction, vague feedback, and inefficient communication, which collectively hinder the professional growth of teacher candidates. The Insightful EducatorHub platform was developed to address these issues by leveraging a digital solution with real-time communication tools, structured feedback mechanisms, and collaborative spaces. This study aimed to improve mentoring collaboration through a research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. The platform was tested with 30 teacher candidates, five mentor teachers, and five supervisors from five schools. Data were collected through pre- and post-implementation surveys and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative findings indicated a 35% increase in interaction frequency and a 40% improvement in participant satisfaction levels.  At the same time, mentors and supervisors recognized the platform’s utility in organizing tasks and consolidating mentoring processes. Although prosperous, the trial identified areas for refinement, including greater customization and advanced analytics to better suit diverse educational settings while demonstrating Insightful EducatorHub’s promise as an innovative tool for elevating mentoring practices and supporting the professional development of future educators.

Abstract

This systematic literature review investigates core STEM-PjBL pedagogical mechanisms and their alignment with Islamic educational principles, as well as the potential implications of this alignment for culturally relevant contextualized higher education STEM pedagogy framed within an Islamic orientation. Methods: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, thematic synthesis and quality appraisal of the studies utilising the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) was conducted on 17 peer-reviewed papers published between 2016-24. It was found that STEM-PjBL stressed collaborative inquiry, authentic problem-solving, iterative refinement, interdisciplinary integration, and community-oriented learning throughout. They have structurally substantive similarities with Wadud implies Shura, Maslaha, Ihsan and Tawhid principles. Simultaneously, it also reveals frictions around learning agency and constructivist inquiry, and contextually situated understandings of the value-practice nexus. This review suggests that contextually situated reimaginings of STEM-PjBL within particular cultural traditions may enhance culturally responsive STEM pedagogy. Future studies may explore comparative contexts in which STEM-PjBL is interpreted, adapted, and enacted within Islamic higher education systems. These studies may help elucidate how institutional culture, educational values, and local pedagogy traditions mediate the tensions between widely circulated STEM pedagogies and contextually rooted local practices.

Abstract

2022 PISA data shows that the scientific literacy skills of Indonesian students are still below average. These conditions indicate that students' ability to understand science concepts, apply scientific knowledge, and use science process skills in solving problems still needs to be improved. Based on observations and interviews in primary schools, it was found that there is still a lack of use of learning models and approaches, and teachers do not provide alternative learning access options for students. So this research aims to examine the influence of project-based learning on students' science understanding abilities and process skills. The research design used in this research is a quasi-experimental design. The research subjects consisted of 30 elementary school students consisting of 2 classes, namely 15 experimental class students and 15 control class students. The experimental class received project-based learning treatment while the control class received a scientific approach learning treatment. Data on students' science understanding abilities and process skills are obtained from the test instrument on students' science understanding abilities and process skills. Data analysis was carried out using the Independent Sample t Test at the significance level (sig < 0.05). The research results show that there are differences in students' science understanding abilities and process skills in the classroom with project-based learning and the classroom with a scientific approach. This can be seen from the increase in Posttest scores obtained in project-based learning classes compared to scientific approach classes. The independent sample t test showed a probability significance value of 0.000, which is smaller than α 0.05 (sig < 0.05). Therefore, PjBL has proven effective for improving science understanding abilities and science process skills of elementary school students.

Abstract

This research was conducted to overcome the lack of integration of socio-scientific issues (SSI) at the Mandalika University of Education, especially the biology education department, and at the same time as a springboard for developing teaching programs. This basic qualitative research aims to identify and explain informal reasoning patterns of biology prospective teachers. In this study, 14 biology prospective teachers as samples were selected purposively, namely students who had taken animal physiology, genetics, and evolution courses. Furthermore, semi-structured interviews using thematic techniques focused on issues of common descent, GMOs, and organ transplants. The findings and conclusions of this study indicate that intuitive and emotive reasoning is the reasoning patterns most used by our respondents in responding to SSI issues. Then, for further research, it is stated briefly in the recommendations section.

Abstract

Scientists, government agencies, and the public are keenly interested in evaluating ecosystem health. As a result, there has been an increase in research investigating the efficacy of various bioindicators as markers of environmental pollutants. This article presents a review of bioindicators from 2013-2023 indexed by Scopus. The overall aim is to examine temporal trends in publications regarding bioindicators, contaminants of concern, species used as bioindicators, and potential future research. By entering the terms “bioindicators, environmental pollution, and environmental literature” into the search menu of the Scopus database, we obtained a total of 136 articles. After applying our criteria, we narrowed down our research to only 31 articles. We used the PRISMA framework for inclusion and exclusion purposes. Our SLR results showed that the most studied environmental pollution was air and freshwater pollution. The dominant keywords used in this study were bioindicators, animals, environmental monitoring, and biomonitoring. The most studied country for bioindicators of environmental pollution is Italy. The most studied types of pollution are heavy metal and chemical pollution. The most used bioindicator organisms are invertebrates and plants, while the least used are algae or diatoms. Future research on potential bioindicators includes the application of diatoms in water quality assessment, the relationship between bioindicator monitoring and its impact on communities, interspecies comparisons to identify the most effective indicators, and studies on the level of understanding and skills of communities in the use of bioindicator organisms. Overall, this review serves as a comprehensive reference for the development of research and application of bioindicators in environmental monitoring.
