Abstract

This study examines how Indonesian online news constructs the discourse of rupiah redenomination by analysing linguistic patterns, discursive structures, and ideological representations embedded within financial reporting. Using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the article “Pemerintah Kembali Hidupkan Wacana Redenominasi Rupiah, Ekonomi Peringatkan Risiko Inflasi” was analysed across five levels: textual analysis, discursive practice, social practice, integrated interpretation, and explanatory critique. The findings indicate a discursive tension between government ambition to advance redenomination as a formal policy initiative and economists’ cautionary framing that emphasises risks of inflation, unstable exchange rates, high implementation costs, and uneven public readiness. The news text privileges technocratic voices and constructs redenomination as a potentially destabilising policy rather than a symbol of economic modernisation. This study concludes that online media play a critical role in shaping public perception by foregrounding expert skepticism and reproducing ideologies of fiscal prudence, market stability, and technocratic authority.

Abstract

This qualitative study examines students’ perceptions and motivation toward the use of the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) technique in English for Economics classrooms. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews to students from Economics faculties. The results indicate that students generally perceive TSTS as an engaging and enjoyable method that enhances their understanding of English materials through peer explanation, interaction, and collaborative learning. Most participants stated that TSTS made complex concepts easier to grasp, increased their participation, and allowed them to learn new vocabulary and communication skills in a more relaxed environment. In terms of motivation, the technique encouraged students to prepare before class, boosted their confidence in speaking, and reduced anxiety compared to traditional lecture-based teaching. However, several challenges were noted, including limited time for explanation, uneven group roles, and the need for clearer instructions. Despite these constraints, students strongly recommended the continued use of TSTS and suggested improvements in time management, group allocation, and the addition  of games or ice-breaking activities to enhance engagement. The study concludes that TSTS is an effective and motivating collaborative strategy for teaching English for Economics.

Abstract

The performance assessment of local government is a crucial part of achieving accountable and effective governance. This study aims to analyze the influence of supervision effectiveness and the Government Internal Control System (SPIP) on performance assessment by the Regional Inspectorate of Nunukan Regency. The research method used is a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 44 respondents who are personnel within the Regional Inspectorate. The results show that the effectiveness of supervision has a significant influence on performance assessment, as indicated by a significance value of 0.000 and a positive regression coefficient. This suggests that timely, comprehensive, and well-followed-up supervision can improve the quality of performance assessments of local government units. Additionally, SPIP also has a significant influence on performance assessment, with a significance value of 0.002 and a positive coefficient. The implementation of SPIP covering control environment, risk assessment, control activities, communication, and monitoring has been proven to support the achievement of local government performance indicators. Simultaneously, the two independent variables contribute 78.9% to the performance assessment. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening supervision and internal control systems in supporting the optimal performance of local governance.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the types, perceptions, and how self-regulated learning influences students' motivation when learning vocabulary. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method to achieve the research objectives. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Participants in this study were twelve English Language Education students in the 2023/2024 academic year, who were selected purposively. Based on the results of the study, there are seven forms of self-regulated learning that students use in learning: learning from English podcasts on YouTube, learning from watching gaming YouTube content, learning from English songs, learning from watching English films, learning from OME TV, learning by posting vocabulary lists in easily visible places, and learn by English Message. Students also have various perceptions about self-regulated learning that help maintain their motivation when learning vocabulary, namely because they feel the positive impact of implementing self-regulated learning, remember their learning process, SRL makes their learning more enjoyable, they are motivated because their learning strategies are the same as their hobbies, and they are motivated because the strategies are easy to use. So, it can be concluded that self-regulated learning acts as an effective bridge between personal interests and academic goals, changing vocabulary learning from a passive effort into an active, autonomous, sustainable, and highly motivating process.

Abstract

This systematic literature review maps the landscape of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts, with a focus on Indonesia’s setting. Guided by the PRISMA framework, the review synthesizes 20 recent studies (2024-2025) to analyze the integration of bicultural materials or culturally nuanced resources, the instructional strategies employed, and the resulting learning outcomes. Findings reveal that effective CRT implementation predominantly utilizes multimodal, project-based strategies, such as comparative cultural analysis, digital storytelling, and role-play, leveraging culturally nuanced resources like local folklore, artifacts, and traditions. The synthesis demonstrates that this pedagogical approach yields a dual benefit: it significantly enhances specific English language competencies (notably vocabulary mastery, writing, and speaking skills) while concurrently fostering critical socio-affective outcomes, including strengthened cultural identity, intercultural awareness, student motivation, and critical thinking. The study presents evidence-based strategies grounded in practical application to effectively pair local content with interactive pedagogy. These findings contribute to the discourse on equitable language learning by providing a validated map of practices that support both language achievement and cultural competence. The study advances the field by proposing integrated frameworks for material selection and instructional strategy to enhance holistic learning, while underscoring the necessity for further empirical research across diverse K-12 settings to validate and adapt these approaches.

Abstract

This systematic literature review synthesizes empirical research from 2020 to 2025 to evaluate the efficacy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an assisted-language learning tool in enhancing the speaking skills of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Following the PRISMA framework, an analysis of 22 studies reveals that AI tools, categorized into speech recognition tutors, conversational chatbots, and comprehensive platforms, demonstrate significant potential in improving specific micro-skills. The evidence indicates that pronunciation is the most frequently enhanced aspect (cited in 19 out of 22 studies), followed by fluency (17 studies), vocabulary (14 studies), and grammar (13 studies). Key pedagogical drivers underpinning this efficacy are the provision of immediate, personalized feedback, adaptive learning paths, and the creation of low-anxiety practice environments, which also contribute to improved speaking confidence (noted in 12 studies). However, the review identifies persistent and significant challenges. These include technical limitations in processing non-native accents and spontaneous speech, a lack of human-like interaction for developing pragmatic and cultural competencies, and critical issues of equitable access and data privacy. Methodologically, the field is constrained by small-scale studies (samples of n=20 to n=93) and short intervention periods (4 to 14 weeks), which limit generalizability. The central conclusion is that successful outcomes are not dependent on the AI tools alone but hinge on their strategic, pedagogically-aligned integration within a blended learning ecosystem that complements human instruction. Consequently, this study provides practical implications for curriculum design and teacher training, emphasizing the need for pedagogical integration over mere tool adoption. It recommends future research to pursue longitudinal studies, more robust methodological designs, and the development of more linguistically and culturally adaptive AI technologies to bridge the gap between technological potential and equitable, effective educational practice.

Abstract

Since vocabulary has the important role when learning English, it is better for the English learners to have sufficient vocabulary before learning the four English skills. However, the students’ vocabulary tends to be low because of the less interesting media for learning. Therefore, the present study aimed to find out the effect of pop-up book on students’ vocabulary mastery at Language Boarding House. Students must grasp their vocabulary in order to learn the entire language. Put another way, children find it easier to communicate when they have a larger vocabulary. The pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test were created by the researcher using a quantitative approach. Twenty-six intermediate-level students made up the study's sample. To gather data, the researcher employed pre- and post-tests. The results of the study demonstrated that using pop-up books significantly improved pupils' vocabulary mastery. The paired sample t-test calculation result indicated that the sig. (2-tailed) value was less than 0.05. It indicates that pupils' vocabulary mastery is improved by pop-up books.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research aimed to analyze the mathematical problem-solving abilities of 32 students in class IX A of SMP Negeri 2 Galesong Selatan, specifically when solving System of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) word problems. The evaluation framework was based on Polya's four steps (understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back). Through tests and interviews, students were categorized into three groups: students with high ability successfully completed all four Polya steps accurately; students with moderate ability typically managed to complete only three steps and showed weakness in the crucial looking back stage; and students with low ability often only managed to understand the problem or entirely failed to formulate a solution plan. The analysis ultimately revealed a significant weakness in students' capabilities at the planning, execution, and especially the looking back stages. Therefore, the study recommends that these abilities be improved through regular practice with non-routine problems that specifically emphasize the systematic application of Polya's steps.
