Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of social media in shaping the cultural identity of young people in the digital age through the perspective of multicultural counseling. The method used is a literature review with a qualitative approach using relevant academic sources. The findings indicate that social media has become a primary platform for identity formation through online interactions and exposure to global culture, which has led to cultural hybridization between local and global values. The impact is dual: expanding modes of expression while also potentially causing an identity crisis and diminishing the strength of local culture. Therefore, multicultural counseling is essential to support young people  integrating their identities in a balanced manner amidst digital developments.

Abstract

Cultural diversity is a fundamental characteristic of Indonesian society that influences various aspects of life, including guidance and counseling services. Differences in cultural backgrounds, values, norms, and individual perspectives can affect the counseling process, both in understanding problems and determining appropriate intervention strategies. Therefore, counselors are required to possess multicultural competence in order to provide effective and responsive services to clients’ needs. This article aims to examine the importance of multicultural competence for counselors in dealing with cultural diversity. The method used in this study is a literature review by analyzing various scientific sources related to multicultural counseling. The results indicate that multicultural competence consists of three main components, namely self-awareness, knowledge, and skills, which are interrelated in supporting the effectiveness of the counseling process. In addition, this competence plays an important role in minimizing cultural bias, improving the quality of the counseling relationship, and helping counselors understand clients more comprehensively. Thus, multicultural competence becomes an essential aspect that must be possessed by counselors to create inclusive and effective counseling services in a diverse society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine gender issues in multicultural counseling in school settings, specifically the challenges faced and the strategic role of school counselors in providing equitable and responsive services. The method used in this study is a literature review drawn from various sources, including books and scientific journals. The data obtained is then systematically analyzed through identification, classification, and interpretation to produce a comprehensive and comprehensive understanding. The results of the study indicate that gender issues in multicultural counseling still contain biases and stereotypes stemming from social and cultural constructs, thus affecting counseling services. Challenges faced by school counselors include limited understanding of gender, cultural pressures, and an education system that is not yet fully responsive to gender equality. Counselors also have a crucial role as agents of change in creating a discrimination-free school environment. Therefore, strengthening and following up on these gender issues is necessary. Counselors' awareness and empowerment, along with support from the education system, are also needed to ensure the smooth and optimal functioning of counseling services

Abstract

Academic procrastination is a common problem among junior high school students and may negatively affect academic performance, psychological well-being, and responsibility in completing academic tasks. This study examined the effectiveness of Islamic-based self-management counseling incorporating the amanah dimension in reducing academic procrastination among junior high school students. The study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design. The researchers selected seven students with high levels of academic procrastination using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 20-item academic procrastination scale developed based on the amanah dimension and validated through expert review and pre-testing. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test to determine differences in students' academic procrastination before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant reduction in academic procrastination after implementing Islamic-based self-management counseling, with an Asymp. Sig. value of 0.031. The mean pretest score was 118, which decreased to 84 in the posttest. These findings indicate that the intervention effectively reduced students' academic procrastination. This study's novelty lies in integrating the Islamic value of amanah into self-management counseling, emphasizing responsibility, integrity, discipline, and personal accountability. This approach offers a culturally relevant counseling intervention to address academic procrastination among junior high school students. Keywords: self-management, Islamic, academic procrastination, amanah

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Kashta-based group counseling in improving emotional regulation among junior high school students at Sekolah Indonesia Jeddah (SIJ), Saudi Arabia. Emotional regulation is a crucial skill for adolescents, particularly in multicultural school settings. Problems observed at SIJ include difficulties controlling emotions, a tendency to dwell on negative feelings, feelings of inadequacy in social interactions, anxiety about speaking in front of the class, and an inability to calm down quickly. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects were 26 seventh-grade students divided into an experimental group (n=13) and a control group (n=13). A 15-item valid emotional regulation scale (Cronbach's α=0.762) was used as the instrument, developed based on Gross's (2015) Process Model of Emotion Regulation. Paired sample t-test results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group (t=-17.646; p=0.000), while the independent sample t-test of posttest scores revealed a significant difference between groups (t=-12.221; p=0.000). Normalized gain (N-Gain) analysis showed an effectiveness rate of 79.14% (effective category) in the experimental group compared to 14.73% (ineffective category) in the control group. These findings demonstrate that Kashta-based group counseling is effective in improving emotional regulation among junior high school students in the Indonesian diaspora environment. The practical implications support the development of culturally sensitive counseling services in Indonesian schools abroad.
