Abstract

A topic about women is always interesting to discuss, including their works, such as a novel. Her life journey has been portrayed in a novel in detail. This paper aims to describe the representation of a women's novel in social media, the factors leading to it, and the values within. It employed a qualitative descriptive method with a feminist literary approach that examined the text from the women's side as a reader. Data were taken from a novel published online in social media and then printed. It was Elena. This study showed that women's novels in social media tend to experience marginalization/discrimination, stereotype/negative labeling, subordination, and excessive burden for women. The dominating cultural construction, patriarchy ideology, and familial ideology are the influencing factors. Women's novel also contains messages about religious values, education values, and the values of patience and endurance. It suggested that further research compared it with other novels published in social media or other media to provide a more comprehensive and varied description.

Abstract

In an age of industrial and technological advancements, there are still people who believe in the myth of the prohibition of marriage between the Gomino and Cruman lineages. This myth originated from the battle between troops led by Sindo Joyo and soldiers led by Kidang Palih. Kidang Palih was killed by Sindo Joyo in that battle. Then this myth emerged. Abstract

The process of learning Arabic does not rely solely on students’ cognitive abilities, but is also influenced by affective aspects such as emotional intelligence. This study aims to analyze the implementation of an emotional intelligence approach in block system-based Arabic language instruction at MTs NU Pakis. The approach refers to Goleman’s five components of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method using observation and interview techniques. The results indicate that emotional intelligence is actively integrated into the intensive three-day learning process. The teacher successfully created a conducive and interactive learning environment, facilitated students’ emotional regulation, and enhanced engagement and learning motivation. Positive social interactions between teacher and students, as well as among peers, contributed to the development of a collaborative learning atmosphere.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the types of illocutionary speech acts used in the speech delivered by Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anis Matta, at the Preparatory Meeting of the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 10, 2024. The study employs a pragmatic approach based on John Searle’s theory of speech acts. This speech is fascinating to examine due to its use of Arabic in an international forum and its emphasis on the strategic issue of Palestine. The research method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing observation and note-taking techniques for data collection. The research findings reveal five types of illocutionary acts based on Searle’s classification: 4 assertive acts in the form of complaints, conclusions, and affirmations; 6 directive acts in the form of invitations, questions, and prayers; 1 commissive act expressing commitment or intention; 2 expressive acts in the form of gratitude and empathy; and two declarative acts that aim to change political status. These illocutionary acts express political convictions, call for collective action, reaffirm Indonesia’s commitment, foster solidarity, and challenge international structures. In the context of global diplomacy, they function as strategic tools to shape narratives, influence opinion, and strengthen Indonesia’s role in supporting Palestine.

Abstract

This study examines the linguistic and ethical meanings of the Qur’anic term miḥrāb and its connection to the broader concept of liberation, particularly the liberation of Bayt al-Maqdis. The problem addressed in this research is the limited scholarly attention to miḥrāb beyond its conventional definition as a physical prayer niche, despite its deeper symbolic significance in the Qur’anic discourse. The study aims to clarify how miḥrāb functions as a spiritual, moral, and prophetic category that shapes individual and communal transformation. Using a textual and semantic analysis of four primary verses—Q 3:37, Q 3:39, Q 19:11, and Q 38:21—this research employs Ṭāhā ʿAbd al-Raḥmān’s theory of al-qirāʾah al-iʾtimāniyyah to explore the ethical trust embedded in the concept. The findings indicate that miḥrāb symbolizes a sacred space of spiritual discipline, moral refinement, and prophetic justice, serving as a formative arena for nurturing rabbānī leadership and spiritually liberated communities. Consequently, the liberation of Bayt al-Maqdis must begin with revitalizing spirituality through the symbolic and ethical dimensions of miḥrāb, rather than relying solely on militaristic approaches. The study contributes a conceptual framework that positions miḥrāb as a foundational paradigm for the civilizational liberation project within Islamic thought

Abstract

The food and humanitarian crisis in Yemen, caused by prolonged war, has left millions suffering from hunger, disease, and dependence on international aid. Children and women are the most vulnerable groups. This situation is worsened by funding shortages for humanitarian organizations and the impacts of climate change. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method to identify linguistic phenomena within the text by collecting data from books, journals, the internet, and other written literature. The findings, based on M.A.K. Halliday's semiotic theory, reveal that the Al Jazeera news article titled "Qissatun Yamaniyyin ma'a an-nuzūḥ wa al-jū'... intizhārun mu'limun limusā'adātin ghābat 'āmayn" highlights three main focuses (field of discourse): the decline in UN aid, the displacement story of Youssef Mohammed, and the suffering of citizens. The tenor of discourse by Youssef Mohammed, Julien Harneis, and Fatik al-Radini represents international institutions, supported by four modes of discourse that visually reinforce the news content.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the practice of learning to read Arabic texts in the book Iḥyā Ulum ad-Dīn, which then identifies the social role patterns formed within it, and analyzes the principles of andragogy in adult education as reflected through the Anjangsana forum. This study uses an ethnographic approach following a 12-stage developmental research. Data were collected through participant observation during 24 meetings, in-depth interviews with 20 informants, and documentation in the form of recordings, texts from various print media, and digital communication archives. The results indicate that the practice of learning to read Arabic texts during the visit of Iḥyā’ ‘Ulūm ad-Dīn took place through collective sorogan reading by middle-aged and elderly congregants, interpretation of nahwu-ṣarfiyah with typical Islamic symbols, provision of murod in local languages, interactive discussions, and verification of textual variations across printed editions. Learning through the Anjangsana forum exhibits transformative characteristics that can be understood as a form of community of practice. This study offers an alternative, participatory, inclusive, and reflective learning process rooted in local tradition, combining linguistic, spiritual, and socio-religious dimensions.

Abstract

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in language learning is rapidly increasing, while research on the use of AI in teaching the Arabic language in Indonesia remains limited. As an exploratory study , this research aims to explore the perceptions of lecturers regarding the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching speaking skills in Arabic and its impact on learning effectiveness at Nahdlatul Ulama University of Sunan Giri (UNUGIRI). Using a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological design, this study includes in-depth interviews with two Arabic language lecturers and classroom observations. The results indicate that lecturers have positive perceptions regarding the potential of AI to enhance speaking practice and provide instant feedback to students. However, they also identified challenges such as curriculum adaptation and the need for continuous professional development. The impacts of using AI on learning include increased student motivation, more practice opportunities, and personalized learning. The main challenges are in authentic assessment and the integration of cultural context. it is among the first to investigate the implementation of AI in Arabic language instruction within the Indonesian higher education context; it adopts a phenomenological approach to capture in-depth insights into lecturers’ lived experiences; and it offers a comparative analysis of two AI tools Google Assistant and FunEasyLearn in supporting Arabic speaking skills. In conclusion, the application of AI in learning Arabic at UNUGIRI shows promising potential, but it requires a balanced approach between technological innovation and traditional teaching methods. This study highlights the importance of continuous development in integrating AI into Arabic language curricula in higher education in Indonesia.
