Abstract

This research explores indirect expression in Mahmoud Darwish's poem "Bithoqoh Huwiyyah" (With Identity Confidence) to convey the message of Palestinian resistance. The poem, a significant piece of Palestinian literature, reflects the resilience of the Palestinian people in the face of ongoing oppression and struggles for identity and autonomy. Through figurative language, Darwish communicates complex political and social themes related to Palestinian resistance, using subtle forms of expression to convey powerful messages of defiance. The study employs qualitative content analysis to examine the poem's text and identify the types of indirect expression used. The primary data consists of the poem, while secondary data includes scholarly articles on Darwish, Palestinian history, and socio-political context. Data were collected using reading and note-taking techniques, and the analysis follows a three-stage process: data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal four distinct types of indirect expression in the poem: talwih, ta'ridh, ramz, and ima'/isyarah. These expressions convey themes of resistance through various forms, such as existential declarations, social criticism, and subtle threats. For instance, Darwish uses indirect expressions like "Take note, I am an Arab" and "I am a name without a title" to assert Palestinian identity, while phrases such as "I eat the flesh of those who oppress me" express anger and opposition to injustice. These forms of figurative language enhance the poem's impact by allowing Darwish to communicate the depth of Palestinian suffering and the enduring spirit of resistance without resorting to confrontation. The study highlights how Darwish's indirect expression transforms his poetry into a tool for cultural resilience, offering both a voice for the oppressed and a means of resistance. The research contributes to the broader understanding of literature as a powerful form of political resistance, demonstrating how poetry can subtly yet profoundly influence collective identity and social movements. By analyzing the indirect expressions in Darwish's work, this study underscores the importance of art in political discourse, offering a deeper appreciation of how literature shapes the struggle for justice and freedom.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the perspectives and experiences of 32 Arabic language teachers in West Sumatra in providing extrinsic motivation through the ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) model and its effectiveness, as well as the obstacles they face in the practice. This study is motivated by the view that intrinsic motivation alone is not sufficient; students also need extrinsic motivation as a reinforcement and driver in the Arabic language learning process. Using a phenomenological approach, data were collected through observation and online interviews, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that: (1) the majority of teachers perceive the importance of extrinsic motivation and apply it through various strategies that can be categorized in the ARCS model (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction), and also by Piaget's developmental theory of teaching Arabic language materials from easy to difficult; (2) The main obstacles in implementing extrinsic motivation in the form of the ARCS model include internal factors such as low interest and negative perceptions of students towards Arabic, as well as external factors such as limited support from schools and families; (3) the majority of teachers consider extrinsic motivation in the form of the ARCS model to be effective in increasing enthusiasm, creativity, long-term interest, as well as students' learning abilities and achievements. However, its effectiveness is still assumptive and contextual because it has not been tested quantitatively. This study provides practical implications for Arabic language teachers in designing learning strategies that integrate extrinsic motivation effectively, especially through the application of techniques in the ARCS model, thoroughly and contextually.

Abstract

This study explores using Suno.Ai, an AI-powered platform, to teach maharah istima' (listening comprehension) at Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS). While previous research on digital media has focused mainly on English instruction, few studies have explored the use of AI in Arabic listening education, particularly within Islamic boarding schools. This research addresses that gap by analyzing how Suno.Ai supports Arabic vocabulary acquisition and student engagement. This study employs a qualitative case study design; data were collected through classroom observations and teacher-student interviews and then analyzed thematically and interpretively. Findings show that Suno.Ai enhances students' motivation and comprehension with adequate facilities and teacher guidance, although challenges like internet instability and low digital literacy persist. The novelty of this study lies in its contextual application of AI tools in Arabic language pedagogy. It contributes theoretically by expanding discourse on AI in language learning and offering insights into AI's effective integration in Arabic listening instruction.

Abstract

TikTok has once been seen bad by the public and even banned by the Indonesian government. The advantage of TikTok applications, one of which is a medium of Project-Based Learning, is, thus, a challenge to gain. This paper aims to describe the use of the TikTok application as a medium for Arabic language learning through Project-Based Learning on vocabulary material carried out at Madrasah Aliyah Nahdlatul Wathan (MA NW) Pringgasela and to reveal students' perspectives regarding this matter. This paper is packaged with a qualitative descriptive approach, while data collection is through observation and interviews. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman model, i.e. reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. This study concludes that using the TikTok application as a learning medium can be an innovation in Arabic learning. The strengths felt by students include: learning becomes more exciting and less boring, students get new experiences, students become more active, and it is easy to memorize the vocabulary they learn. The study also finds that the drawbacks of this application are that it takes a long time in the manufacturing process, requires an internet connection, and the lack of teacher supervision in using the TikTok application outside of school.

Abstract

This study examines how different achievement goal orientations influence learning styles and academic performance among students in the Arabic Language Education (PBA) program. Using a narrative inquiry approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving students and lecturers at STIT Darul Fattah. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s four-stage model: data collection, condensation, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal two dominant goal orientations: Performance Approach and Mastery Approach. Students with a performance-oriented mindset often adopt a diverging learning style and achieve high academic performance across subjects. In contrast, students with a mastery orientation tend to align with an assimilating style, excelling in courses that match their personal learning goals and intellectual interests. Drawing on David Kolb’s experiential learning theory, the study highlights how achievement goals shape learning styles, which in turn affect academic outcomes. This research underscores a dynamic and reciprocal relationship between motivation, learning preferences, and success in Arabic language learning, offering actionable insights for educators to tailor instruction based on students' motivational profiles and enhance language learning effectiveness.

Abstract

The Arabic language proficiency of students at Al-Khairiyah Senior High School Kelapian Banten appears to be hindered by several factors, including a lack of interactive learning tools such as Android-based applications, gaps in instructional content, low student engagement, limited teacher training, and the absence of supplementary educational resources like LKPD. Even though Azzahra stated, that Android-based Arabic language worksheets are quite effective in improving students' Arabic learning outcomes. A study was conducted to evaluate the impact of the "Al-Maahirah" application on the Arabic learning performance of tenth-grade students at the school. The research utilized a quantitative experimental approach, specifically a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest method. The sample consisted of 13 students, with data collected through assessments and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and the N-Gain test. The results indicated that the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.001, which is below 0.05, suggesting a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. Moreover, the results of the N-Gain test showed a score of 0.715 or in percentage form 71.5%, which interprets a high score, and an effective score of 0.89824, which is included in the large category. Based on these findings, it was determined that the "Al-Maahirah" application contributed significantly to improving students' Arabic language learning outcomes during the 2024-2025 academic year.
