Abstract

Plants fibers such as Calotropis gigantea (CG) are very suitable as noise reduction material. Therefore, this research aims to determine the sound absorption coefficient of CG in the 20 mm test sample and the effect of the perforated aluminum layer on its ability. It was carried out using a test sample made with a thickness of 20 mm and 100 mm in diameter. The thickness of aluminum was 0.3 mm with hole diameters of 1 mm, 1.5 mm, and 2.5 mm. During the experiment, every sample was heated and pressed in a mold for 10 minutes at 200oC. The test equipment used is a Bruel Kjaer Type 4206 impedance tube with 100 mm in diameter. The sample was tested using the transfer function method ISO 10534-2:1998 at a frequency of 1/1 octave. The results indicated that the uncoated sample absorbed noise α = 0.01-0.07 (1-7)% higher than the sample coated with perforated aluminum. This showed that the Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) without aluminum coating can reduce noise by 29%, and the measured sample is categorized in class D.

Abstract

A truck is a major form of transporting goods on land because of its efficiency in terms of cost and effectiveness. Increased truck usage has heightened the risk of component failure, particularly in the rear-wheel-drive axle, which is prone to structural problems. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the causes of rear-wheeldrive axle failure in trucks through numerical simulations based on the finite element method, using Finite Element Modeling and Postprocessing (FEMAP) software. The axle material used was AISI 4140, with four test models, including a version without defects and three other models with variations in defects at certain locations. During the investigation, the analysis was conducted to observe the effect of stress on axle performance under various defect conditions. The simulation results showed the maximum von Misses stress on the shaft without defects reached 115.19 MPa, which was significantly lower than the yield strength limit of 415 MPa of the material. The maximum shear stress of 124.67 MPa also remained lesser compared to the material allowable limit of 239.45 MPa, showing that the shaft was safe in a condition without defects. However, in the shaft model with defects, stress intensity factor (KI) values were recorded at 17.80, 15.01, and 20.325 MPa.m1/2, which exceeded the material fracture toughness (KIC) value of 10 MPa.m1/2. The results signified that KI KIC condition, facilitating accelerated crack propagation on the shaft, showing the potential for structural failure. This study provided a deep understanding of the importance of defect mitigation to maintain the reliability and safety of truck operations

Abstract

Surface failure is evident in helical gear in off-road 4x4 gearbox, requiring the identification ofroot causes. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the factors contributing to helicalgearfailure in off-road 4x4 vehicles. Initially, crack in helical gear wascaused by manufacturing or material defects during production or the heat treatment process, manifesting as inhomogeneities in the microstructure or other imperfections. Crack propagation possibly occurred due to continuous stress during off-road 4x4 usage, influenced by factors such as excessive loads, vibrations, or extreme off-road conditions. The exploration process began with a comprehensive set of analyses, including visual observation, hardness testing, chemical composition analysis, microstructure testing, and stress analysis. Subsequently, the material composition of gear was identified as high-carbon steel meeting AISI 1080 standards. Although the average surface hardness value was 95.49 HRB, which was slightly lower than AISI 1080, the microstructure comprised pearlite and cementite. Surface fracture observations revealedinitial crackthat propagated, leading to brittle fractures. The average stress intensity factor (KI)was alsomeasured 54.65 MPa.m1/2, which surpassed fracture toughness value (KIC) of AISI 1080 steel at 45.5 MPa.m1/2.In conclusion, helical gear failure was directly attributed to the propagation of initial crack, thereby resulting in fractures.

Abstract

Noise control is essential for achieving comfortable living and working environments. Natural fibers such as Scirpus Grossus offer a sustainable approach for sound absorption applications. This study investigates the effect of varying fiber densities of Scirpus grossus on sound absorption performance. Test specimens were fabricated at three density levels; 636.9 kg/³, 318.5 kg/m³, and 212.3 kg/m³. Each had a fixed mass of 50 grams, a diameter of 100 mm, and varying thicknesses of 10 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm. The samples were hot-pressed at 200°C for 10 minutes. Sound absorption coefficients (SACs) were measured using a Brüel Kjær Impedance Tube Type 4206, following the transfer function method (ISO 10534-2:1998) over third-octave bands. The results show that fiber density significantly affects the sound absorption coefficient (SAC). A decrease in density to 212.3 kg/m³ led to a SAC increase of 0.12 points (approximately 20% relative to the initial SAC value of 0.5428 at 636.9 kg/m³), particularly at 4000 Hz. This indicates that lower-density samples exhibit better acoustic absorption behavior. The average Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) across all samples was around 45%, confirming their effectiveness in sound control. Based on SAC values, the samples are classified as Sound Absorption Class D. These findings suggest that Scirpus grossus fiber mats have strong potential for eco-friendly acoustic insulation materials, suitable for applications in building panels or vehicle interiors.

Abstract

Education plays a critical role in shaping career decisions for the future. However, many students encounter difficulties in selecting suitable academic programs, often stemming from a lack of confidence in their ability to make appropriate decisions. Consequently, students may choose study programs that do not align with their personal characteristics. This study emphasizes the importance of providing comprehensive information about various academic programs offered in higher education and developing tools to assist prospective students in making informed decisions. To address these challenges, a recommendation system using Hybrid Filtering technology has been developed. The system integrates Content-Based Filtering and Collaborative Filtering methods within the TensorFlow Recommenders System (TFRS) framework. The study utilized data from undergraduate students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) across seven academic programs. By employing 10 features representing students' interests and talents, the recommendation system generated accurate and tailored suggestions for study programs. The model was trained and evaluated using both real and augmented (augmented) datasets with predefined hyperparameters. Results demonstrated that using only the real dataset achieved a Top-1 accuracy of 0.59 and a Top-5 accuracy of 0.97. When incorporating the augmented dataset, the Top-1 accuracy improved to 0.66, while the Top-5 accuracy reached 1.0. The findings reveal that combining real and augmented datasets enhances average accuracy by approximately 10% compared to using the real dataset alone. Additionally, the study program recommendations produced by the model showed significant improvement in quality. A web-based recommendation system utilizing the TFRS model was developed and positively evaluated by FMIPA students. User feedback indicated high satisfaction with the system's recommendations, demonstrating its effectiveness in guiding students toward suitable academic programs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the remuneration strategy and the dynamics of a highly competitive market that affect employee productivity and satisfaction. This research method uses a quantitative approach combined with comparative statistics. Companies often choose a per-piece pay strategy to encourage efficiency and productivity while managing labor costs. However, companies may shift to a profit-sharing system to increase employee engagement and loyalty. Differentiation of payment schemes, such as performance-based incentives, plays an important role in attracting and retaining talent and aligning strategies with business goals, which in turn helps manage labor costs and reduce competitive pressures. Productivity and price sensitivity of demand also influence company strategy in markets with high productivity and low demand sensitivity, companies tend to adopt more innovative strategies, while in markets with low productivity and high costs, they often implement more homogeneous and conservative strategies. Further studies are necessary to explore additional factors such as differences in recruitment strategies, industry characteristics, and other variables that influence company decisions in remuneration strategies and labor distribution. Understanding these findings enables companies to design more effective remuneration strategies based on market conditions and their workforce requirements.
