Abstract

The purpose and object of this paper is a relationship between the existence of the Kaliklatak plantation, as a European plantation, and its impact on the people of Onderafdeeling Kaliklatak during the colonial period 1900-1942. The method used in this study is a historical method to reconstruct the history of plantations and their impact on community development in Onderafdeeling Kaliklatak. The data collection technique used refers to the first stage in the historical method, namely the heuristic process, searching for and collecting historical sources. Data analysis techniques relate to the second, third and fourth stages in the historical method which include source criticism, interpretation and historiography. Based on research results and conclusions, then the opening of coffee and rubber plantations during the colonial era in Onderafdeeling Kaliklatak is very much related to the natural condition of this area and also to changes in colonial politics, open the door. The first company to expand was NV Maatschappij owned by van E. Moormann&Co, producing the main crop of Robusta coffee which is in high demand worldwide. The relevance of opening large plantations to the people of Onderafdeeling Kaliklatak can be seen in several ways. First, there is a change in the position of local elites as landlords close to the colonial. Second, helping to create "improvement" of community infrastructure facilities and infrastructure around the Kaliklatak plantation. Third, encourage the development of economic activities and have an extraordinary impact on the surrounding community. Fourth, the large number of connecting road builders for the purpose of transporting coffee and rubber products has a broad and profound impact on traditional community patterns, not only for the people around the plantations but also for aspects of life in Banyuwangi. The creation of assimilation was due to a change in the orientation of their thoughts because their areas began to open up from the influence of the outside world.

A certain society always presents stereotyped views. Likewise with Chinese identity in Banyuwangi. Referring to the view of cultural studies, identity is entirely a socio-cultural construction. No identity can emerge outside of cultural representation or acculturation. The dynamics of social change in the cultural dimension refers to cultural changes in society such as contact with other cultures which causes cultural diffusion and borrowing. This identity change phenomenon can be seen in the Chinese ethnic identity in Banyuwangi Regency. The history of the Chinese ethnic in Banyuwangi as a whole has experienced ups and downs caused by the conditions of Indonesian domestic and foreign socio-political culture, placing the Chinese ethnic in an uncertain position, and tending to become victims of Indonesia's social and political situation which is always turbulent. This then causes the ethnic Chinese to always be faced with difficult conditions that affect their existence as an ethnic group. As Chinese people in Banyuwangi, they generally admit to being confused about choosing whether to retain their distinctive Chinese (hereditary) characteristics, or have to completely abandon everything they received from their ancestors and completely merge into the majority society. This paper aims to discuss how the emergence of the history of ethnic Chinese in Banyuwangi Regency, formerly known as Blambangan, and how the dynamics of the development of social change for ethnic Chinese in Banyuwangi.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Bayu Village, Songgon District. This study aims to determine: (1) The history of the Puncak Agung Macan Putih temple temple; (2) Structure of the Candi Puncak Agung Macan Putih Temple; (3) Functions of the Temple of Puncak Agung Macan Putih Temple. The steps used are: (1) Heuristic data collection (observation, interviews, study of documents); (2) Criticism of sources; (3) Interpretation; (4) Historiography (writing history). The subjects of this study were local leaders and elders who embrace Hinduism in Bayu Village, Songgon District. The result of this research is that the Candi Puncak Agung Macan Putih Temple was built in 2005-2007, which was proposed by Ida Bagus Alit. He is originally from Bali who seeks peace in the Rawa Bayu area. When doing meditation, he got an inspiration so that in that area there should be a temple. after that he asked permission from the caretaker of Rawa Bayu to build a temple here. After the elders and caretakers of Rawa Bayu agreed to Ida Bagus Alit's suggestion, he immediately returned to Bali to take the padmasana to be placed in Rawa Bayu. The structure of the Puncak Agung Macan Putih Temple uses the Eka Mandala concept, which means the unity of the upper and lower realms. The only building in the Puncak Agung Macan Putih Temple Temple is Padmasana. This is because the Puncak Agung Macan Putih Temple Temple is located on a mountainside and is quite far from residential areas so that it was built as simply as possible. The functions of the Puncak Agung Macan Putih Temple Temple include: (1) Religious functions: as a place to pray to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi and perform other religious rituals; (2) Educational function: as a place to study history for students because in Rawa Bayu there is a place and relics of Prabu Tawang Alun who was the King of Blambangan, and was the place where the Puputan Bayu war took place; (3) Social function: as a place to commemorate HARJABA because the Puncak Agung Macan Putih Temple temple is still in the same location as the Rawa Bayu tourist destination.

Abstract

Kemiren Village is a village with various traditions that still exist today, one of which is the Mepe Kasur traditional ritual tradition. The Mepe Kasur Traditional Ritual Tradition is a traditional ritual from Kemiren Village which is held once a year in the month of Zulhijjah or the month of Hajj. This traditional Mepe Kasur ritual is carried out by simultaneously drying red and black mattresses from the west to the east end of Kemiren Village. The red color on the mattress is a symbol of boldness and the black color is a symbol of continuity in the family. The aim of this research is to find out the history, symbolism and dynamics of the Mepe Kasur traditional ritual that occurs in the Kemiren Village community. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques use interviews, observation and document study. The data analysis technique uses the theory of Miles and Huberman (2014), namely, data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this research show that initially drying mattresses was not carried out once a year, but rather was carried out by looking at the condition of the mattress. The drying of red and black mattresses also has stages as a traditional ritual in Kemiren Village. This research explains the symbolism in the red and black mattress and the dynamics that occur in the Mepe Kasur traditional ritual in 2014-2023.
