Abstract

Fluctuations in Indonesian Robusta coffee exports occurred along with a declining trend in coffee exports compared to major competitor countries over the past fifteen years.  This research aimed to analyze the dynamics of the competitiveness of Indonesian Robusta coffee exports and the level of competition among the major competitor countries such as Vietnam and India. The methods used are Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Dynamic Revealed Comparative Advantage (DRCA), and Rank Spearman Correlation. These methods were selected to analyze changes in competition level within 15 years’ time dimension (2000–2015) as well as to analyze the relationships among competing countries, which may affect Robusta coffee market of each country. The analysis showed that Indonesia's coffee competitiveness tends to increase compared to the two major competitors of Robusta coffee exporter of the world such as Vietnam and India. However, Indonesia's coffee competitiveness is still a half below Vietnam. The Indonesian coffee rivalry against Vietnam and India is not significantly correlated due to the different markets of export destination countries.  Increasing competitiveness and the strength of competition in export market can be done through quality improvement and continuity of domestic Robusta coffee in accordance to the demand of world consumers.

Abstract

Rubber price received by smallholders in Indonesia is lower compared with other countries due to inefficient marketing system. Therefore, it needs an effort to increase in the supply chain performance. The objective of the research was to analyze marketing system of natural rubber and the effect of supply chain management on marketing efficiency. The research was conducted at Tebo Regency of Jambi Province from December 2014 until February 2015. Marketing system was analyzed using B/C ratio and value-added approach, whereas supply chain was carried out using a supply chain network approach. The results showed that there were four patterns in the marketing channels of natural rubber.  Pattern I (farmers – village traders - subdistrict traders - district traders - industries); Pattern II (farmers – village traders - district traders - industries); Pattern III (farmers –auction market - industries); and Pattern IV [farmers –Rubber Processing and Marketing Unit (RPMU) – industries].  The supply chain management was only found in the Pattern IV, where there was an agreement between farmers and the RPMU to improve  the quality of rubber for higher price.  In addition, farmers also received advocation and training from the RPMU.  Pattern IV exhibited improvement marketing efficiency as indicated by a B/C ratio at 1.29 and value added at 96.82%.  The adoption of SCN framework was able to motivate farmers to produce a better quality of rubber that afforded a higher price. Therefore, the government is necessarily to recommend the addoption of this pattern in increasing farmers’ income.

Abstract

Provision of competent human resources is important in tobacco farming. Tobacco as commodities pressured by changes in global environmental conditions so that required adaptable farmers. Therefore, this research aimed to: 1) Determine the factors that influence entrepreneurial behavior and performance of the farm; 2) Analyze the influence of personality trait and environmental factors to entrepreneurial behavior; and 3) Analyze the influence of personality trait, environmental factors, and entrepreneurial behavior to the perfor-mance of individual tobacco farming. The effect of independent variables on the measurement dependent variables were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The personality trait and environment fac-tor influence entrepreneurial behavior with the greatest influence comes from the personality trait. Entrepre-neurial behavior has significant effect on the performance of the business, but not a dominant factor affect-ting the performance of the farm. Economic environment to be the most influential variable on the perfor-mance of the farm. Entrepreneurial behavour alone has no significant effect on performance. Thus, entre-preneurial behaviour should be viewed as only one causal factor in a complex model of factors that promote performance.

Abstract

The government's commitment to realize national food security through overcome food insecurity and malnutrition as the main program of the Ministry of Agriculture. This study aims to analyze differences in consumption of protein commodities based on two provincial categories and the effect of changes in prices and income on demand of protein commodities. The two provincial catagories are provinces which has protein consumption below Adequacy Rate of Protein (AKP), namely Jambi, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Maluku and provinces which has protein consumption above AKP, namely Jakarta, Jawa Barat, Jawa Timur. This study used the National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS) in March analyzed by using Linear Approximate-Almost Ideal Demand System (LA/AIDS). The results showed that consumption of fish and meat in provinces above AKP is higher then percapita consumption in provinces below AKP, while the others percapita consumption like poultry, egg, tempeh, and tofu is higher in provinces above AKP. Price and expenditure elasticity is more elastic in provinces above AKP then price and expenditure elasticity in provinces below AKP. Generally, the commodity's own price elasticity is inelastic in both categories of provinces except eggs. The value of egg elasticity is greater than 1 (elastic), either in provinces above AKP or in the provinces below AKP. Based on expenditure elasticity, all commodities are normal goods. Fish, poultry, and eggs are luxury goods in the province above the AKP, while only fish and eggs are luxury goods in the provinces below the AKP.
