Abstract

Borneo is a term that is often used for an alternative name for the island of Kalimantan. This article tries to describe the strengthening of the character of Nationalism in the tail of Borneo. The setting of this research study is in Temajuk Village, Paloh District, Sambas Regency, this is because Temajuk is an area directly adjacent to Malaysia. This study is directed at the aspect of internalizing the value of nationalism through education. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential for opening border areas to social development in the field of education. The results of this study indicate that the sense of nationalism of the citizens of the nation in Temajuk Village is still well maintained, although the attention of the government in the regions and the center of power is still very lacking. This is evidently the various problems that exist in the border areas. Then this is inversely proportional to the "luxury" enjoyed by the residents of Sarawak-Malaysia which is displayed in front of the eyes of the residents of Temajuk Village. The process of internalization of nationalism is more dominantly carried out through educational institutions, both material enrichment of the pillars of nationality in the co-curricular and extracurricular learning processes, although educational services with adequate facilities, as well as good quality educators, strengthening social nationalism will actually have an impact on the pawning of the nationalism spirit of border communities if this is not a serious concern for the government.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic responses of Islamic educational institutions—particularly pesantren and madrasah—to the socio-political structures imposed by Dutch colonial rule in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative historical-analytical methodology, the research draws on primary archival sources and secondary historiographical literature to explore how Islamic education functioned as a site of resistance and adaptation. The findings reveal four dominant themes: first, the modernization of Islamic education as a form of intellectual resistance, wherein reformist organizations like Muhammadiyah integrated secular subjects and structured pedagogies to cultivate an intellectually competitive Muslim generation; second, the consolidation of traditional institutions as cultural fortresses, as seen in Nahdlatul Ulama’s efforts to strengthen pesantren and preserve religious orthodoxy; third, the mobilization of women through education, particularly through the efforts of ‘Aisyiyah, as a strategy for moral reform and national identity formation; and fourth, the internalization of nationalist values through character education, positioning pesantren and madrasah as crucibles of civic responsibility and anti-colonial consciousness. These findings underscore that Islamic education during the colonial period was not merely a religious endeavor but a multidimensional force for cultural resilience and political mobilization. Theoretically, the study contributes to the discourse on education as a nonviolent strategy of resistance under colonialism, while practically offering insights for contemporary education policy in Indonesia. However, the study is limited by its reliance on secondary sources, which may overlook local variations and grassroots dynamics. Further research incorporating oral histories and archival case studies is recommended to enrich our understanding of the lived experiences and post-colonial legacies of these institutions.

Abstract

Abstract

This article examines the application of John Dewey’s experiential learning approach within Islamic Religious Education (PAI), highlighting its relevance in linking theory to practice for a deeper and contextual understanding of religion. Employing a library research method, the study investigates how experiential learning can be integrated into PAI and its implications for cultivating reflective and ethical awareness among students in both schools and higher education. The findings reveal that experiential learning not only enables students to grasp Islamic teachings theoretically but also to internalize their values through reflective practice. Furthermore, it fosters critical thinking and ethical awareness by engaging learners in problem-based learning, case studies, and social participation. The approach also contributes to reconstructing a dynamic Islamic epistemology that connects empirical experience with critical reflection, thereby making Islamic teachings more applicable to everyday life. Overall, experiential learning should be understood not merely as a methodological innovation in PAI but as a transformative strategy for Islamic education to adapt effectively to the challenges of globalization and modernity.‎

Abstract

This study analyzes the dynamics of Islamic education in Indonesia through a historical-comparative approach between the Parliamentary Democracy period (1950–1959) and the contemporary digital era. The primary goal is to map the patterns of continuity and change in how Islamic education responded to distinct social-political and technological challenges. Using a qualitative methodology based on literature review, the article finds that the struggles of Islamic education during the Parliamentary Democracy era were centered on political and institutional legitimacy within the newly emerging national system. In contrast, challenges in the digital era have shifted to the realm of functional adaptation and the negotiation of authority amid technological disruption. This finding confirms that Islamic education is not a static entity but a dynamic social agent with high adaptive capacity. Theoretically, this study enriches the literature on the social history of Islamic education by providing a comparative analytical framework. Practically, it underscores the urgency of curriculum renewal, strengthening digital literacy, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the ongoing relevance of Islamic education.
