Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Elsa Speak application in enhancing speaking skills among students at Universitas Nusa Cendana, Kupang. As English language proficiency becomes increasingly crucial in academic and professional contexts, innovative technological solutions like Elsa Speak—an AI-powered pronunciation and speaking coach—offer promising alternatives to traditional speaking instruction. The research examines how students at the Fourth Semester Students of English Education Department, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, NTT utilize the application's speech recognition technology, personalized feedback mechanisms, and interactive exercises to improve their pronunciation, fluency, and overall speaking confidence. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study collected data from English language learners through pre-tests and post-tests, questionnaires, and interviews to assess learning outcomes and user experiences. Findings indicate that regular use of Elsa Speak resulted in measurable improvements in pronunciation accuracy and speaking fluency, with students reporting increased confidence in oral communication. However, challenges such as limited internet connectivity and the need for self-discipline in independent learning were identified as potential barriers. The study concludes that while Elsa Speak serves as a valuable supplementary tool for speaking practice, its effectiveness is maximized when integrated with instructor-led activities and peer interaction. These findings contribute to the growing body of research on mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) and provide practical insights for educators in Indonesian higher education contexts seeking to incorporate technology-enhanced language instruction.

Abstract

Teenagers' lives are inseparable from social media in this digital era. Diverse platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook offer unlimited connectivity and rapid access to information. However, social media use also brings new challenges, particularly in terms of ethics and psychological impacts. Teenagers, as active social media users, often face dynamic decision-making and psychological issues. Students of SMTK Soe in South Central Timor Regency, who are part of the digital generation, are not immune to this phenomenon. Students spend 3-12 hours a day, lack sleep, are unable to focus on learning, are anxious because they compare their lives to idols or influencers, and are involved in cyberbullying. Therefore, counseling on leadership, ethics, and the psychological impact of social media from a Christian perspective is highly relevant and important for students to be able to manage social media responsibly. Based on the problems found by Community Service partners, the PKM team prepared a counseling activity with the theme Psycho-Social Media: Counseling on Ethics and Psychological Impacts of Social Media in a Christian Perspective for Students of SMTK Soe, South Central Timor Regency to answer Partners' problems. The seminar was delivered to 30 students of SMTK Soe City on November 26, 2024 with 3 sessions, namely the Use of Social Media from a Christian Leader's Perspective, the Psychological Impact of Social Media for Teenagers with Biblical Principles, and Social Media Ethics. The delivery of material using interactive learning methods such as group discussions, case studies, and simulations can help students to more easily understand and internalize Christian values ??in the context of social media use. After the presentation of the material, students made a commitment card for positive and beneficial use of social media so that they could make decisions to use social media positively and avoid the negative impacts of social media use. Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major health problem in Indonesia, including at Puskesmas Oesapa in Kupang City. One of the challenges in TB treatment is the low adherence of patients in routinely consuming Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (OAT). The use of a digital application such as My Therapy is expected to help patients remember their medication schedules and monitor their adherence. The objective is to analyze the effect of using the My Therapy digital application on medication adherence among Tuberculosis patients at Puskesmas Oesapa, Kota Kupang. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post- test approach. The sample consisted of 47 Tuberculosis patients who were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data was collected using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed- Rank Test because the data was not normally distributed. The results showed that the average medication adherence score increased after the intervention using the My Therapy application. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant difference in adherence levels before and after the intervention. Conclusion: The use of the My Therapy digital application is effective in improving medication adherence among Tuberculosis patients at Puskesmas Oesapa, Kota Kupang. This application is expected to be a supportive innovation in efforts to control TB in then community.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease with a high number of cases in Indonesia, including in the working area of the Sikumana Community Health Center. Low patient compliance in undergoing therapy is one of the main challenges. Families play an important role in accompanying patients, from monitoring medication intake and providing nutrition to giving emotional support. To determine the effect of implementing health care tasks through family support on tuberculosis patients at the Sikumana Community Health Center. Quantitative research with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 30 respondents who were family members of tuberculosis patients. The instruments used were a family support questionnaire covering five family health tasks and a SAP on Family Support. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: In the pretest, most families were in the adequate (53%) and poor (46.7%) categories, with none in the good or very good categories. After the intervention, the posttest results showed a significant improvement, with 60% of respondents in the good category and 20% in the very good category. The Wilcoxon test produced a p-value < 0.001, indicating a significant effect of family support on the improvement of health care tasks. Family support was proven to increase family involvement and understanding in supporting TB patient treatment. Suggestions: Family support needs to be made a sustainable strategy in primary care, with a broader sample coverage and innovative interactive educational media to increase effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Role Playing learning model in fostering democratic attitudes in students in Civics (PKn) in elementary schools. This study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pre-experimental design (One Group Pretest-Posttest Design). The subjects were 11 fifth-grade students of GMIT Kuanino 3 Elementary School. Data were collected using a Likert-scale democratic attitudes questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive analysis showed an increase in the average score of students' democratic attitudes from 43.00 (Agree) in the pretest to 47.05 (Strongly Agree) in the posttest, representing a 9.88% increase in effectiveness. This increase was confirmed by the results of the Paired Sample T-Test, which yielded a t-value of -5.750 with 10 degrees of freedom (df) and a p-value of 0.000. Because the p value <0.05, it is proven that there is a significant difference between the scores before and after the intervention. It is concluded that the implementation of the Role Playing learning model is significantly effective in fostering democratic attitudes in fifth grade students of GMIT Kuanino 3 Elementary School. Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be a major worldwide health concern, with some regions in Indonesia facing challenges in achieving case detection objectives. This initiative sought to enhance tuberculosis case detection using mobile X-ray screening, the provision of preventative medication, and the identification of latent tuberculosis infections among household contacts and high-risk groups, especially stunting children. The results indicated that just 6.03% of participants had a history of tuberculosis contact, but 67.84% presented risk factors including malnutrition, exposure to smoking, previous tuberculosis diagnosis, and diabetes. Chest radiography revealed anomalies in 6.03% of individuals, requiring further diagnostic verification. Furthermore, stunting was widespread, with 48% categorized as moderately stunted and 27% as severely stunted. Post-intervention evaluations indicated an enhanced mother's understanding of tuberculosis. Initiatives to enhance tuberculosis case finding among women and children under five in rural regions must be expanded and strengthened to decrease transmission, enhance detection rates, bridge information gaps, mitigate stigma, and increase treatment coverage, ultimately leading to reduced tuberculosis transmission.
