Abstract

This research highlights the importance of numeracy as one of the indicators in assessing a country's progress. Numeracy bridges mathematical theory with practical application and can be used in everyday decision-making, such as financial decisions, health literacy, and risk assessment. However, the Minimum Competency Assessment results show that more than 50% of students still need to be in the low numeracy competency category. This research aims to explore the mathematical reasoning processes of pre-service mathematics teachers in solving travel route problems to understand their analytical skills. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected from 30 fifth-semester mathematics education students at the University of Jambi. Data were obtained through numeracy tests, observations, and semi-structured interviews, allowing in-depth analysis of the participants' mathematical reasoning processes in solving contextual problems. Participants were asked to solve problems related to the context of travel routes, focusing on time and cost efficiency in choosing travel routes. The research results show that most participants can understand and model the problem, although there are differences in their approaches to solving it, ranging from very analytical to simple. Some participants initially misunderstood the problem, but after being given the opportunity for reflection, they were able to improve their understanding and the solutions produced. This research concludes that fostering mathematical reasoning in teacher training programs is crucial for improving numeracy skills. Sustained practice, reflection, and a structured problem-solving approach are necessary to help prospective teachers analyze and interpret mathematical problems more effectively.         Keywords: mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, route travel, and pre-service mathematics teachers. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i2.pp712-727

Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) Untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengetahuan Matematika yang muncul pada anak usia 3-4 tahun (2) Untuk mengetahui bagaimana anak usia dini memperoleh pengetahuan Matematika. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan naratif. Tekhnik pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar observasi, wawancara serta dokumentasi kegiatan permainan anak dengan menggunakan media puzzle angka, telur warna, balok susun, dan puzzle bergambar. Hasil penelitian menunjukan media bermain yang edukatif untuk anak bisa memunculkan pengetahuan matematika yang sesuai dengan perkembangan usianya. Hal ini dilihat dari kemampuan anak yang telah mampu: (1) memasangkan benda-benda yang berkaitan (pairing) melalui media puzzle angka, pemerolehan pengetahuan matematikanya dengan cara mencocokkan ukuran bentuk kepingan puzzle (trial and error) dan secara berulang-ulang, mengenali bentuk yang sesuai pada kepingan puzzle dan selanjutnya anak paham akan bentuk ukuran dan menyebutkan lambang bilangan pada puzzle angka (2) mengelompokkan berdasarkan warna (matching). Melalui media telur warna pemerolehan pengetahuan matematika ditunjukkan dengan kemampuan anak mengindentifikasi warna (3) mengurutkan benda berdasarkan ukuran dari yang kecil ke besar atau sebaliknya (seriation). Kata kunci : pengetahuan matematika, anak usia dini Abstrack The purpose of this study are (1) to find out whether there is mathematical knowledge that arises in children aged 3-4 years (2) to find out how early childhood children acquire mathematical knowledge. The method used in this research is qualitative with a narrative approach. Data collection techniques using observation sheets, interviews and documentation based on children's play activities using media Puzzle Figures, Color Eggs, Stacking Beams, and Picture Puzzles.Results of the research showed that the tools of early childhood education have succeeded to encourage math sciences for early childhood aged 3-4 years old. This can be seen from the ability of early childhood who have been able to: (1) pair objects that are paired through Number Puzzle media, gain mathematical knowledge by matching the size of the puzzle pieces (trial and error) and repeatedly, recognizing shapes which is appropriate in the puzzle piece and then the child understands the shape of the size and mentions the number symbol on the number puzzle (2) grouping according to matching. Through Egg media Color acquisition of mathematical knowledge is indicated by the ability of children to identify colours (3) sort objects based on size from small to large or vice versa (seriation). Abstract

Abstrak Matematika memiliki banyak nilai di dalamnya, namun dalam pembelajaran capaian yang diinginkan adalah penguasaan konsep materi bersifat teoritis yang belum menyentuh sisi kehidupan peserta didik. Media dan sarana belajar perlu mempertimbangkan lingkungan peserta didik serta kearifan lokal yang dapat mewarnai pembelajarannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan modul matematika dalam kerangka kajian budaya Jambi yang bermuatan budaya Jambi dan nilai karakter dalam Matematika atau sebaliknya. Untuk jangka panjang, budaya jambi dapat dilestarikan dan dikembangkan melalui dunia pendidikan. Pengambilan data pada penelitian di bidang pendidikan matematika ini menggunakan teknik data validasi ahli, observasi dan wawancara. Masing-masing teknik digunakan sebagai triangulasi data yang dihasilkan dari subjek budayawan dan guru matematika serta pembelajaran di sekolah. Studi referensi digunakan menentukan data tentang nilai-nilai yang telah terjadi pada waktu lampau hingga kini. Observasi digunakan untuk menentukan data dari produk budaya di Jambi. Wawancara digunakan untuk memastikan data yang telah diperoleh dari dua teknik sebelumnya. Analisis data dilakukan untuk menentukan keterkaitan antara nilai-nilai dalam matematika dan nilai-nilai karakter dalam budaya Jambi atau sebaliknya. Hasil pengembangan berupa modul yang praktis dan dapat digunakan pada subjek autis. Disamping itu, modul juga memberikan efek yang positif pada motivasi belajar peserta didik karena muatan budaya yang digunakan konten yang menarik untuk dipelajari. Kata kunci: modul, siswa autis, budaya Jambi Abstract Mathematics has many value ​​contained in it, however in the desired learning outcomes the mastery of the material concepts is still theoretical which has not touched the lives of students. Media and learning facilities need to consider the environment of students and local wisdom that can color part of their learning. This development research aims to develop modules for mathematical material within the framework of Jambi cultural studies. The desired achievement is the availability of modules that contain Jambi culture and character values ​​in Mathematics or vice versa. Furthermore, for the long term, Jambi culture can be preserved and developed through the world of education. Retrieval of data in research in the field of mathematics education uses data techniques expert validation, observation and interviews. Each technique is used as a triangulation of data generated from the subject of culture and the teacher of mathematics and learning in school. Reference studies are used to determine data about values ​​that have occurred in the past until now. Observation was used to determine data from cultural products in Jambi. Whereas interviews are used to ascertain data that has been obtained from the two previous techniques. Data analysis was performed to determine the relationship between values ​​in mathematics and character values ​​in Jambi culture or vice versa. The results of the development are practical modules and can be used on autistic subjects. Besides that, the module also has a positive effect on students' learning motivation because of the cultural content used by interesting content to learn. Abstract

Comparison and Correlation between Attitude and Process Skills in Mathematics: The Case of Public and Islamic Middle School in Indonesia. Objectives: to find out the comparison and relationship between process skills and students' interest in learning mathematics in junior high school. Methods: using a quantitative descriptive survey design. A total of 140 students from SMPN 35 Batanghari and MTsN 5 Batanghari were purposively selected as research samples. Data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: The results of the t-test of students' process skills and interest in learning at SMPN 35 Batanghari and MTsN 5 Batanghari obtained sig. (2-tailed) is less than 0.05. Analysis of the correlation between the interests and process skills of students obtained the value of sig. (2-tailed) in each school is less than 0.05. Conclusion: There are differences in students' interest and process skills between each school and students' interest is significantly correlated with process skills. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan profil kesulitan belajar matematika dan kecenderungan diskalkulia yang dialami siswa kelas III dan IV SD N 216/IV Kota Jambi, serta faktor faktor yang menyebabkan kesuliatan belajar pada siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SD N 216/IV Kota Jambi pada Maret 2024. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil tes kesulitan belajar dan kecendrungan diskalkulia dan wawancara kepada siswa (sebagai data utama) dan wawancara kepada guru wali kelas (sebagai data pendukung). Setelah dilakukan tes dan wawancara tersebut, data dianalisis dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas III dan IV SD N 216/IV Kota Jambi masih mengalami kesulitan belajar dan mengalami kecenderungan diskalkulia. Dari 6 orang siswa yang dijadikan sampel dalam penelitian diketahui, 5 siswa diantaranya memenuhi indikator diskalkulia. Adapun faktor yang menyebabkan kesulitan belajar adalah faktor internal yang terdiri dari rendahnya minat dan motivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran dan faktor eksternal yang terdiri dari penggunaan metode pembelajaran yang masih menggunakan metode ceramah dan demonstrasi dan penggunaan media pembelajaran yang hanya menggunakan buku pedoman pembelajaran dan papan tulis sebagai alat dan media pembelajaran.

Abstract

Lack of availability of culturally oriented worksheets around students to improve the character of loving the motherland. The Merdeka Curriculum allows educators to develop teaching materials adapted to the characteristics of each region. This study aims to establish a worksheet with ethnomathematics exploration of the ornaments of the Jingah River Jami Mosque. The research method used is the Plomp model development method which consists of four stages, namely: (1) initial investigation; (2) designs; (3) construction; and (4) test, evaluation, and revision—methods of data collection, namely the method of observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative and descriptive quantitative. The research subjects included experts as validators, and 7th-grade junior high school students on a limited basis. The results of the validator's assessment were 4,77, the results of the restricted group trials were 80,00%. So the ethnomathematics-based student worksheets for the ornament of the Jingah River Jami mosque are obtained, which are valid, and practical.

Abstract

: Nilai-nilai budaya Jambi adalah suatu nilai luhur kebudayaan Jambi yang harus dikembangkan agar tidak punah, oleh sebab itu diperlukan suatu wadah dalam pembela­jaran matematika yang bisa dikaitkan dengan budaya Jambi tersebut. Alat musik kelin­tang kayu merupakan salah satu alat musik kelintang kayu yang bisa dikaitkan dengan pembelajaran matematika yaitu pada materi pola barisan dan deret. Karena alat musik ini, mempunyai panjang kayu yang berbeda pada setiap bilahannya dan menghasilkan harmonisasi nada yang berbeda pula. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis nilai-nilai budaya Jambi yang terkandung dalam alat musik kelintang kayu dan menganalisis keterkaitan nilai-nilai budaya Jambi dalam alat musik kelintang kayu ter­sebut dengan materi pola barisan dan deret. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan ber­dasarkan hasil pengamatan terhadap alat musik, wawancara dan pengamatan terhadap proses pembuatan alat musik tersebut. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah alat musik dan seniman alat musik kelintang kayu di sanggar mindulahin, Telanai Pura, Kota Jam­bi.Berdasarkan penelitian diperoleh hasil nilai budaya Jambi yang terkandung dalam alat musik kelintang kayu adalah nilai kesenian disebabkan oleh harmonisasi nada yang dihasilkan oleh alat musik kelintang kayu pada saat kayu tersebut dipukul, dan memiliki nada khas kesenian Jambi yaitu nada pentatonis. Dan pada setiap bilahan kayu terdapat panjang kayu yang berdeda dan membentuk pola barisan dan deret tertentu dan menghasilkan harmonisasi bunyi yang berbeda pula.Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat kaitan nilai-nilai budaya Jambi dalam alat musik kelintang kayu dengan pembelajaran matematika yaitu pada materi pola barisan dan deret.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze knowledge construction process on the 8th grade of junior high school through mathematical problem solving based on ethnomathematics for several students with high, medium, and low problem solving abilities. We employ qualitative method to reveal the subject’s knowledge construction process. Data collection in this study was carried out by giving problem solving ability test, knowledge construction process test and interviewing 3 research subjects, one student was selected from each level of problem solving ability. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. This research describes that students with high problem solving abilities in all four steps of problem solving use assimilation thinking process. Students thinking process whose problem-solving abilities is medium use assimilation thinking process in understanding the problem, creating a solution, and carrying out the plan, while reviewing the answers they use accommodation thinking process. In addition, students with low problem solving abilities in understanding the problem, use assimilation and accommodation thinking processes, in creating a solution, they use the assimilation thinking process, and use accommodation thinking process in carrying out the plan, while reviewing the answers there is imperfect accommodation thinking process

Abstract

Learning difficulties in understanding and achieving success in mathematics were identified among students, including dyscalculia, a condition characterized by an inability to perform arithmetic due to disturbances in the central nervous system. This learning disorder results in a less optimal process of constructing knowledge. This study aims to analyze the process skills of students with dyscalculia in constructing ethnomathematics-based knowledge. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, in which data were collected from ethnomathematics-based test items and interviews. The study was conducted at a Special School (SLB) in Jambi City with 2 students with dyscalculia. The findings show that dyscalculic students' process skills have not been fully optimal across most skill indicators. The use of ethnomathematics-based test items only assisted students with counting activities. Both students demonstrated assimilation in the observing and counting stages, but failed to determine relationships between the problem and prior information. In the stages of classifying, collecting, and analyzing data, predicting, measuring, and interpreting data, most activities were carried out through accommodation. Additionally, both students were unable to conduct experiments and communicate their results independently. Overall, students with dyscalculia relied more on accommodation in their thinking.
