Abstract

Sungai Miai is a sub district located ini Banjarmasin Utara District, Banjarmasin, Kalimantan Selatan, Indonesia. The high activity of residents in services and trade and also many boarding houses for outsiders, may be one of the reasons why Sungai Miai in 2021 and 2022 received the title of 3rd sub-district with the highest number of Covid cases in Banjarmasin. The public does not yet know that Jintan Hitam can be used in the treatment of Covid 19. Jintan Hitam has been proven to repair oxidative damage from COVID 19. The solution we are trying to offer is increasing understanding of the benefits of Jintan Hitam and processing Jintan Hitam as a supplement that can repair oxidative damage from Covid 19. It is hoped that this training will encourage community members to be able to cultivate Jintan Hitam at home. There were 17 participants who attended with pretest results of 40 - 80 with an average of 65.29, while posttest results were 50 - 100 with an average of 81.17. The results show that there has been an increase in the knowledge of the Dasa Wasma of the Sungai Miai, Banjarmasin.

Abstract

Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the serious public health issues in Indonesia, including in Banjar Regency. The transmission of TB is not only influenced by biological and behavioral factors but also highly depends on the characteristics of the living environment. This study aims to analyze the influence of physical environmental factors of housing on the incidence of pulmonary TB, and to integrate the analysis results into a modified SEIR model. The research was conducted using a cross-sectional observational approach involving 73 respondents from the working areas of Puskesmas Martapura 1 and Martapura 2. Data were collected through direct observation and interviews, and analyzed using binary logistic regression to identify significant variables. The significant variables were subsequently integrated into the transmission rate parameters in the SEIR model. The results show that ventilation area and room temperature have a significant impact on the incidence of pulmonary TB. Empirical findings show that the probability of pulmonary TB incidence is highest (86.68%) when both ventilation and temperature are below standard, and lowest (26.23%) when both meet the standards. Partial compliance still results in a high probability of incidence (around 60%). The SEIR model simulation with environmental scenarios shows that living conditions that do not meet ventilation area and temperature standards result in more aggressive TB transmission. Conversely, living conditions that meet both standards significantly reduce the number of infected individuals and increase the recovery rate. This research emphasizes the importance of environment-based interventions in a comprehensive TB control strategy.

Abstract

Open-pit coal mining operations require the removal of overburden and the creation of waste dump piles. Waste dump management must consider the classification of the material, specifically whether it is Potentially Acid-Forming (PAF) or Non-Acid-Forming (NAF), based on its geochemical characteristics. This paper examined the geochemical stability of a 10-year-old coal mining overburden waste dump in Paringin, South Kalimantan, which has since been revegetated. Samples were taken from the upstream and downstream sections of the catchment area, based on the NAF homogeneous type of overburden moved to the waste dump area during the reclamation process. This was achieved by creating a soil profile to a depth of 120 cm, resulting in nine samples for each soil profile. The analysis results in the upstream and downstream sections suggested the capacity to neutralize acid. The conclusion was that the overall waste dump has stable geochemical conditions with lower acid mine drainage generation, as represented by a negative NAPP, due to the presence of adequate ANC to neutralize acidity from the Sulfur content in the upstream section and low total Sulfur in the downstream section. The geochemical stability of the waste dump, which is NAF, has a significant influence on the water quality of Paringin Pit Lake, where all surface water from the catchment area flows. These results indicated that no AMD generation occurs in the water of Paringin Pit Lake. With no potency for AMD generation, the overall post-mining landscape could have potential future utilization.

Abstract

Introduction: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality, influenced by uncontrolled cell proliferation, migration, metastasis, and mutations. The imbalance of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglycerides (TG) has an important role. Spatholobus littoralis Hassk., or Bajakah wood, has antioxidant effects due to dihydrokaempferol, which lowers cholesterol levels and increases HDL. This additional therapy is expected to have a positive impact, supporting treatment for patients with wild-type lung adenocarcinoma. Methods: This was a single-blind clinical trial conducted at Ulin General Hospital, Banjarmasin, Indonesia, in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-wild-type lung adenocarcinoma at a minimum stage IIIA, from June 2023 to July 2024. The participants were divided into two groups: the treatment group (adjunctive Bajakah wood 1,000 mg) and the control group. Cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), HDL, and TG were measured twice before starting chemotherapy and after the third chemotherapy cycle. The resulting data were analyzed using the independent t-test and the Mann-Whitney test through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26. Results: For the 21 total patients, the cholesterol and TG levels in the treatment group before and after the third chemotherapy were 200.55±42.65 to 184.45±24.20 and 131.27±44.76 to 112.73±34.74, respectively. The control group results were 185.10±51.98 to 168.30±32.89 and 118.30±51.30 to 104.10±12.53, respectively. The comparison of changes between the two groups was not significant (p-value > 0.005). Conclusion: Cholesterol and TG levels were reduced, but there were no statistically significant differences after the addition of therapy with Bajakah wood.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is characterized by hypertension accompanied by proteinuria or edema, typically occurring after 20 weeks of gestation until the end of the first postpartum week. It remains one of the top five causes of maternal mortality. According to data from Martapura 1 Community Health Center, 45 cases of preeclampsia were reported from 1,245 examined pregnant women between January and July 2023. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with preeclampsia among pregnant women in this area. Using an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design, the study was conducted in October–November 2023 and involved 102 respondents selected via cluster random sampling. Data collection utilized questionnaires and maternal health books. Statistical analysis revealed significant associations between maternal age and preeclampsia (p = 0.011), and between chronic energy deficiency (CED) and preeclampsia (p = 0.021). However, family history (p = 0.371), diabetes mellitus, quality of health services, and antenatal care interest were not significantly associated. The latter variables were analyzed descriptively due to test limitations. The study concluded that maternal age and CED are significantly associated with preeclampsia, with maternal age being the most dominant factor.

Abstract

Palangka Raya, as the capital city of Central Kalimantan, has unique environmental characteristics because it often experiences forest and land fires (karhutla) which result in an increase in air pollutants. This study aims to analyze the association between exposure to Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) pollutants and the incidence of Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) in toddlers in Palangka Raya in 2024. This retrospective study was conducted in Palangka Raya City, with data on the incidence of ARI in toddlers obtained from the Palangka Raya City Health Office. Determination of NO2 and CO levels using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform that analyzes TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) satellite data from the Sentinel-5 precursor. Geographic Information System (GIS) software was used to process spatial data and map layout. The relationship between CO and NO2 levels and ARI incidence was analyzed using linear regression tests, followed by multiple linear regression tests if there was a significant correlation. All statistical tests were conducted using a web-based platform. The conclusion of this study was that the linear regression test showed that NO2 levels only contributed 2.07% (p=0.6555) and CO contributed weakly (p=0.4981) to the incidence of ARI. This indicates that other factors are more dominant in causing ARI in Palangka Raya
