Abstract

This study explores students’ perspectives on the integration of TikTok storytelling in Project-Based Learning (PjBL) classrooms. The purpose of the research is to investigate how the use of TikTok as a digital storytelling platform influences students’ engagement, learning experiences, and perceived learning outcomes. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving students who participated in project-based activities that required them to create and share storytelling videos using TikTok. Data were collected through questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews, and were analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that the integration of TikTok storytelling in PBL promotes positive student engagement, enhances creativity, and increases motivation in the learning process. Students perceived improvements in their communication skills, particularly in speaking and storytelling abilities, as well as greater confidence in expressing ideas. Additionally, the platform’s accessibility and multimedia features supported collaborative learning and learning autonomy. However, some challenges were identified, including technical limitations and the need for clear instructional guidance. Overall, the study concludes that TikTok storytelling can serve as an effective and innovative learning medium when integrated thoughtfully into Project-Based Learning classrooms, contributing to meaningful and student-centered learning experiences.

Abstract

This study examines English teachers’ perceptions of the effects of Differentiated Instruction (DI) on teaching quality in English language teaching at MTsN 2 Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara. This qualitative case study involved three English teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that teachers generally hold positive perceptions of DI and consider it supportive of student-centered and inclusive learning practices aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum. However, differences were found in teachers’ understanding of DI, particularly in how instructional differentiation is conceptualized and applied in classroom practice. These findings suggest that while positive perceptions facilitate DI implementation, strengthened conceptual understanding is necessary to ensure consistent instructional quality. The study highlights the importance of targeted professional development to support effective Differentiated Instruction in English language teaching.

Abstract

Numeracy literacy skills in learning mathematics in elementary schools are still low. This is evident from the AKM value, which is still below average. This low numeracy literacy ability is caused by various things, such as the teacher's lack of ability to make HOTS questions and the lack of habituation for students to work on complex. The main problem that causes students to be still unable to complete learning based on numeracy literacy is the teacher who has not familiarized students with literacy-based questions. Many teachers still cannot compile numeracy literacy questions, especially at the elementary school level. This research is qualitative research with a case study. The results of this research are planning for curricular activities in cultivating numeracy literacy carried out by compiling a Learning Implementation Plan (RPP), compiling numeracy literacy-oriented learning materials, compiling numeration literacy-oriented evaluation questions with the criteria of Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS), and designing audio-visual and realistic learning media.

Abstract

This study examines the portrayal of John Dewey’s principles of reflective and democratic education in Freedom Writers and explores their relevance to contemporary educational developments in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative research design, the study uses content analysis as the primary method to examine themes of teaching and learning presented in the film. The analysis focuses on selected scenes, dialogues, and classroom interactions that reflect instructional practices and pedagogical values. The findings reveal that Erin Gruwell’s instructional approach closely reflects Dewey’s core educational principles. Her teaching practices emphasize experiential learning, reflective activities that support students’ understanding, and the creation of a democratic classroom environment that promotes active participation, personal expression, and mutual respect. These practices are consistent with Dewey’s view that education should be rooted in learners’ lived experiences and social interaction. This study highlights the relevance of Freedom Writers in supporting Indonesia’s ongoing shift toward a more humanistic, experiential, and student-centered educational paradigm. Furthermore, it demonstrates the potential of films as pedagogical resources that can help educators understand and apply educational philosophies within authentic classroom contexts.

Abstract

The research entitled Interlanguage Analysis of the Vocational School Students of SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta aims to describe the interlanguage of tenth-grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta through an analysis of linguistic errors found in students’ writing. The background of this research is derived from the students’ low writing proficiency, which is influenced by their first language, limited mastery of grammatical structures, and inconsistent application of target language rules. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with data consisting of students’ written texts collected from classroom assignments. The data were analysed to identify forms of interlanguage, the sources of their occurrence, and the relationship between these errors and the students’ language development stages. The findings show that students produce various interlanguage features, particularly in the use of verb forms, tenses, prepositions, and sentence structure. These errors are influenced by first language transfer, overgeneralization, simplification, and learning strategies. The results indicate that the students’ interlanguage is still in an unstable developmental stage and requiring continuous guidance. This study concluded that interlanguage analysis is essential for understanding students’ language development and for helping teachers design more effective instructional strategies.

Abstract

This study was aimed at exploring the use of code switching (CS) as interlanguage communication strategy by EFL students when they were communicating in English. Particularly, this study tried to describe the patterns of CS as communication strategy and factors that contributed to the use of the CS as communication strategy by the EFL learners. It was a qualitative research using 30 students of one of Junior High School in Surakarta as research subjects. The data were collected through elicitation technique in which the research subjects were given a task to describe a cartoon. Their utterances were recorded and used as primary data source. Utterances that contained CS were identified and used as primary data. The data were analyzed qualitatively by inductive techniques, using Dornyei and Myers-Scotton analysis frameworks. The research findings were then interpreted based on relevant theory. The results showed that the students used three types of CS, namely tag code switching, intra-sentential code switching and inter-sentential code switching. Three factors identified as the reasons of the use of CS as communication strategy were bilingual, limited mastery of English and as a compensation strategy. It can be concluded that the use of CS by EFL learners is a natural and unavoidable phenomenon since this represents one of the communication strategies to compensate for the EFL learners' limited mastery of the target language they are learning.

Abstract

This article identifies the causes of disruptive behaviour (PD) in elementary school children and explains how PD can contribute to social exclusion. The study in this article employs a case study design and is conducted in an elementary school in Sragen Indonesia. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. To test the validity, the researcher used triangulation. The data obtained and declared valid were then analyzed by following the procedures proposed by Miles et al. (2014). They are data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The results showed that (a) the family environment, school environment, playmate environment, and community environment were the determinants of the emergence of children’s disruptive behaviour, (b) the process of social exclusion as a result of PD was applied by following three stages; group assessment of the risk of PD, decision making to exclude perpetrators, and selflimitation of excluded students within a specified time. It could be concluded that based on the four environments that affected children’s disruptive behaviour, the family environment and school environment were frequently determinants. Nevertheless, in some cases, the existence of a role model in the community reinforced the children’s disruptive behaviour. The social exclusion that came from disruptive behaviour (in the third phase) would only be stopped when the perpetrator no longer shows their disruptive behaviour. The researcher recommended to do an early diagnosis of PD symptoms. It is
