Abstract

Abstract: Non-linear equations often become mathematical models that describe situations in various fields, such as engineering and biology. Determining the roots of solving non-linear equations is something that needs to be studied considering that the characteristics of these equations cannot be solved by analytical means. The purpose of this research is to find out the best method for determining the roots of non-linear equations. The research method was carried out by comparing three methods, namely the Newton Midpoint Halley Method (NMH), Olver Method, and the Chebyshev Method in solving non-linear equations in the form of polynomials, trigonometry, exponentials, and mixtures (trigonometry and exponential). The simulation parameters use an error of 0.001. The results of the analysis show that of the three methods used, the fastest convergence rate in determining the roots of non-linear equations (polynomial, trigonometry, exponential, mixed trigonometry and exponential) is using the Newton Midpoint Halley (NMH) method. so that the best method for solving the roots of non-linear equations is the Newton Midpoint Halley (NMH) method.

Abstract

Drought is one of the hydrometeorological disasters that has a significant impact on the agricultural sector, water availability, and food security, thus requiring an accurate and adaptive early warning system. This study aims to develop and evaluate a drought Early Warning System (EWS) model based on a combination of multi-variable agrometeorological parameters using a hybrid approach of Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) and Adaptive Model-Based Prediction (AMBP). The agrometeorological data used includes rainfall, air temperature, humidity, solar radiation, wind speed, and other supporting variables processed in the form of monthly time series over a period of ten years. The SSA method is used to perform signal denoising and extract dominant components from the data, while AMBP is applied as an adaptive predictive model to generate SPI-6 drought index forecasts. Model performance is evaluated using RMSE and the coefficient of determination (R²) in the model training and evaluation phases. The results show that the hybrid SSA–AMBP model has the best performance compared to single methods, with an RMSE value of 0.149 and R² of 0.983 in the model training phase, and an RMSE of 0.176 and R² of 0.941 in the model evaluation phase. In addition, the 2026 prediction results show a seasonal pattern with indications of a moderate dry period from October to November. These findings indicate that the developed model demonstrates relatively high predictive accuracy and stability based on RMSE and R² evaluation metrics within the SPI-6 dataset used in this study, and it has the potential to serve as a conceptual basis for decision-support in drought risk mitigation, water resource management, and sustainable agricultural planning.

Abstract

Multivariable nonlinear equation systems often appear in engineering, physics, economics, and artificial intelligence modeling, but often do not have closed analytical solutions. Therefore, accurate, efficient, and stable numerical methods are needed. This study aims to comparatively evaluate three iterative methods, namely Multivariate Newton-Raphson, Newton-Kantorovich, and Levenberg–Marquardt, in solving identical high-complexity multivariable nonlinear systems. Simulations were performed using MATLAB with an error tolerance of 0.001 and a maximum iteration limit of 100. The test system consisted of a combination of trigonometric, exponential, and polynomial functions, resulting in nonlinear interactions that were challenging for each method. The simulation results show that Levenberg–Marquardt excelled with only 6 iterations and a final error of 3.246 × 10⁻¹⁰, indicating high stability and efficiency, followed by Multivariate Newton-Raphson with 13 iterations and an error of 4.606 × 10⁻⁹, while Newton-Kantorovich requires 27 iterations with an error of 5.770 × 10⁻⁷, reflecting slower semi-local corrections.Three-dimensional visualization shows the intersection point of the surface as a solution, providing an intuitive understanding of the iteration trajectory characteristics of each method. The novelty of this research lies in the integrated numerical simulation framework that allows direct quantitative comparison of the three methods on identical systems with the same initial conditions, tolerance, and iteration limits. These findings provide important empirical references for selecting efficient and stable iterative methods for multivariable nonlinear systems, as well as practical guidance for numerical applications in engineering, physics, and scientific computing.

Abstract

Rainfall forecasting is a fundamental aspect of water resource management, hydrometeorological disaster mitigation, and agricultural planning, all of which are strongly influenced by climate variability. The complexity of rainfall data, characterized by non-linear, non-stationary, and highly fluctuating patterns, necessitates the use of adaptive and accurate predictive approaches. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of five forecasting models, namely the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model, Holt’s Exponential Smoothing, Backpropagation Neural Network (BPNN), the hybrid GARCH–Holt model, and the advanced hybrid GARCH–Holt–BPNN model, in order to identify the most effective method for monthly rainfall forecasting. Rainfall data for the period 2015–2024 were used for model training and testing. Model performance was evaluated using Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). In addition, this study incorporates the development of a MATLAB-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) to facilitate interactive model implementation and visualization of forecasting results. The results indicate that the GARCH model excels in capturing data volatility, Holt’s Exponential Smoothing effectively follows short-term trends with stability, and BPNN is capable of modeling non-linear relationships despite its sensitivity to data variability. The hybrid GARCH–Holt model demonstrates improved accuracy compared to single models. Furthermore, the hybrid GARCH–Holt–BPNN model achieves the most optimal performance, with an accuracy approaching 99% and the lowest MAPE value of 1.13%, reflecting excellent generalization capability. These findings confirm that the integration of linear and non-linear methods within a hybrid framework significantly enhances rainfall forecasting accuracy and contributes to data-driven decision-making in the field of hydrometeorology.

Abstract

Nonlinear systems of equations often appear in various fields of science and generally cannot be solved analytically, so numerical methods are required. However, previous studies have not provided a direct comparison of the accuracy and efficiency of the Multivariate Newton-Raphson method and the Newton-Kantorovich method when applied to the same nonlinear system, creating a gap in understanding their relative performance. This study aims to analyze and compare the performance of two numerical methods, namely the Newton-Raphson method and the Newton-Kantorovich method, in solving nonlinear systems of equations numerically. The evaluation is based on the convergence rate, result accuracy, and iteration efficiency of each method. The nonlinear system used involves trigonometric, exponential, and polynomial functions. Simulations were conducted twice using three equations directly for each method. The error tolerance was set at 0.001, with a maximum of 100 iterations. The simulation results showed that the Multivariate Newton-Raphson method had the best performance, requiring only 7 iterations to achieve convergence with a very small error of 2.711×10^(-7). In contrast, the Newton-Kantorovich method required 21 iterations and produced an error of 6.770×10^(-5), indicating slower convergence and lower efficiency. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Multivariate Newton-Raphson method is the more accurate and efficient method for solving nonlinear systems of equations through numerical simulation. This finding contributes to the selection of an appropriate numerical method and opens opportunities for further exploration in higher-dimensional systems.
