Abstract

Quality of eggs might decrease when hens under heat stress. A further study found that a specific plant extracts could reduce the impacts of heat stress. The aim of this study was to determine effects of Salix tetrasperma plant extract in combination with extract of turmeric and neem to improve egg quality and productivity of laying hens under heat stress. Sixty laying hens strain Isa Brown of 6 months old were used and reared in individual cages. The feed and drinking water were supplied ad libitum. This study was conducted in a completely randomized design with five treatments (two controls and three treatments) and each treatment consisted of 12 replication. Treatment consisted of with (KP) and without (KP) commercial anti-stress supplement. Formulations of extract were S. tetrasperma 1.000 mg / l water (EJ), S. tetrasperma 1.000 mg / l + Turmeric 250 mg / l + neem 250 mg / l (EJ+K1), and S. tetrasperma 1.000 mg / l + Turmeric 500 mg / l + neem 500 mg / l drinking water (EJ+K2). The hens were exposed to heat stress for 5 hours per day at a temperature range of 34.0±1.0°C. Supplements were dissolved in drinking water and were given for 30 days in the morning and noon. Results showed that a single extract of S. tetrasperma or the combination of an extract of turmeric and neem were significantly increased thickness of eggshell (P<0.05), but did not affect color of egg yolk, height albumin, egg weight, and HU value. Extract of S. tetrasperma combined with turmeric and neem extract dissolved in drinking water for 30 days in laying hens reared under heat stress could not improved quality of the eggs, but may increase thickness of the egg shell and cause decreased water consumption.

Abstract

This research was conducted to study the effects of jaloh extract (Salix tetrasperma Roxb) on broiler chicken exposed to heat stress in constant temperature of 33 ± 1oC for 4 hours per day for 10 days. Fifteen chickens aged 20 days old (strain Cobb) were divided randomly into 5 groups. The first group was external control (tCP) of the chickens received neither heat stress nor jaloh extract. The second group was internal control (CP) representing chickens given heat stress without jaloh extract. The third, fourth, and fifth groups consisted of chickens given heat stress and 10 mg/kg BB of hexane (CP+Hek), ethyl acetate (CP+EtOAc), and ethanol (CP+EtOH) fractions, respectively. Heat stress and jaloh extract were given every day. Extract of jaloh were given 1 hour before temperature in the cage was raised. On 10th day of the experiment, 3 chickens were killed and necropted. Liver and kidney tissues from each treatment were analyzed for histological condition. The results indicated that heat stress can induce injury degeneration, necrosis, and infiltration of inflammation cells of liver and kidney. It is concluded that the hexane fraction of jaloh extract could protect the detrimental effects on heat stress. Key Words: Heat Stress, Extract Salix, Liver, Broiler Kidney

Abstract

Giving of extract n-hexane of jaloh bark (EHJ) can lessen impact heat stress on broiler chicken. The studies of activity of EHJ in lessening heat stress impact at broiler chicken have not been conducted yet. An experiment was conducted to study the effect of extract n-hexane of jaloh bark (EHJ) administration on body temperature, level of calcium and glucose in serum, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in lung tissue, and behaviors of broilers exposed to heat stress at temperature 33 ± 1oC. This study used 18 broilers aged 20 days which were divided into 3 groups. The first group was broilers given heat stress without EHJ (CP). The second group was treated heat stress and EHJ at dose 10 mg/kg BW (CP+EHJ). The EHJ was given 1 hour before cage temperature was raised. Broilers in group CP and CP+EHJ were divided into 3 periods of slaughtering i.e. 2 and 4 hours after given heat stress and 2 hours after heat stress termination. Each of slaughtering period consisted of 3 broilers as replication. Result of this research indicated that CP+EHJ lessen stress in the form of restlessness and increased expression of iNOS in the lung tissue. It was assumed that one of mechanism of EHJ in lessening stress on broiler related to forming of iNOS enzyme in the lung tissue. Key Words: Salix, Heat Stress, Calcium, Glucose, i-NOS Enzyme

Abstract

Abstrak Pencegahan dampak cekaman panas pada ayam broiler dapat dilakukan dengan pemberian ekstrak tanaman yang juga berguna dalam pengembangan obat-obat tradisional sebagai alternatif pengurangan penggunaan bahan-bahan kimiawi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi performan ayam broiler yang diberikan ekstrak daun jaloh melalui air minum. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Lapangan Peternakan (LLP), Jurusan Peternakan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Syiah Kuala. Sebanyak 80 ekor anak ayam broiler strain MB 202 produksi PT Japfa, Medan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Perlakuan adalah suplementasi ekstrak daun jaloh melalui air minum pada dosis 0, 500, 1000, and 1500 ml/l air. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Blok terdiri 4 perlakuan dan 4 blok. Tiap blok merupakan eksperimental unit yang masing-masing ditempati 5 ekor ayam. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan walaupun secara statistik tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05), suplementasi ekstrak daun jaloh di dalam air minum cenderung meningkatkan performan ayam broiler. Berat badan akhir, konsumsi ransum, dan konsumsi air minum meningkat sedangkan FCR menurun. Hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak daun jaloh melalui air minum dapat menurunkan cekaman panas dan kematian ayam broiler dengan penggunaan terbaik pada pengenceran 1000 ml /l water air. Kata kunci: Jaloh; leaf, ekstrak, broiler, performan  Abstract Prevent heat stress in broilers has been optionally created by using plants as starting points for drug development, specifically those used in traditional medicine. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performances of broiler chickens raised by offering jaloh leaf extract (JLE) through drinking water. The research has been conducted at the Field Laboratory of Animal Husbandry, Animal Husbandry Department, Syiah Kuala University. As many as 80 broiler chicks strain MB 202 produced by PT Japfa, Medan were used in this study. The treatment was supplementation JLE within drinking water at a dose of 0, 500, 1000, and 1500 ml/l of water, respectively. The research was performed into a Block Randomized Design (RBD), consisting of 4 treatments and 4 blocks. Each block was an experimental unit, each of which was placed by 5 chickens. The results of study indicated that although statistically no significant differences were detected (P>0.05) supplementation of JLE through drinking water had tendency to improve the performances of broilers. Final body weight, body weight gain, feed intake. and drinking water intake increased and FCR decreased. It was concluded that giving JLE through drinking water could minimize heat stress and reduce the mortality of broilers with the best provision of JLE at the level of 1000 ml /l water.Key words: Jaloh; leaf, extract, broiler, performances

Abstract

ABSTRAKDiabetes melitus merupakan penyakit yang disebabkan oleh kekurangan atau ketidakefektifan pankreas memproduksi insulin sehingga kadar glukosa  di dalam darah meningkat atau menurun. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat pengaruh pemberian ekstrak kulit pisang kepok terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah tikus putih yang diinduksi diet tinggi lemak. Dua puluh lima tikus putih dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok perlakuan. Kelompok K1 adalah kelompok tikus yang diberikan pakan standar. Kelompok K2 adalah kelompok tikus yang diberikan pakan 7 mg diet tinggi lemak. Kelompok K3 adalah kelompok tikus yang diberikan 7 mg diet tinggi lemak dan pemberian glibenklamid 0,126 mg/200g berat badan. Kelompok K4 dan K5 adalah kelompok tikus yang diberikan 7 mg diet tinggi lemak dan ekstrak kulit pisang kepok masing-masing dengan dosis 100 mg/kgbb dan 200 mg/kgbb. Masing-masing perlakuan dilakukan selama 60 hari, pada hari ke 61 dilakukan pengambilan darah melalui jantung untuk melihat kadar glukosa darah dengan alat biochemical analyzer veteriner. Hasil penelitian terhadap kadar glukosa darah menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak kulit pisang kepok 100 mg/kgbb dapat menurunkan kadar glukosa darah pada keadaan normal. Kata kunci: Diet tinggi lemak; ekstrak kulit pisang kepok; kadar glukosa darah

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui kualitas telur berdasarkan indeks kuning telur, indeks putih telur, dan nilai haugh unit, yang disimpan pada suhu kamar dan refrigerator pada ayam yang diberi sinbiotik AKBISprob 4%. Penelitian ini menggunakan 24 butir telur dari 12 ekor ayam petelur strainISA Brown periode layer berumur 16 bulan. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap pola faktorial, faktor utama pemberian sinbiotik AKBISprob, faktor kedua penyimpanan pada suhu kamar dan refrigerator. Perlakuan P0 (telur dari ayam yang diberi pakan komensial 324-2R sebagai kontrol), P1(telur dari ayam yang diberi pakan sinbiotik AKBISprob 4% yang diberikan setiap hari), P2 (telur dari ayam yang diberi pakan sinbiotik AKBISprob 4% diberikan tiga hari sekali), P3 (telur dari ayam yang diberi pakan sinbiotik AKBISprob 4% yang diberikan lima hari sekali).Hasil penelitian menunjukkan interaksi antara pemberian sinbiotik AKBISprob 4% dan penyimpanan pada suhu kamar dan refrigerator tidak berpengaruh nyata (P0,05) terhadap peningkatan indeks kuning telur, indeks putih telur, dan nilai haugh unit,  pemberian sinbiotik AKBISprob 4% berpengaruh sangat nyata (P0,01) terhadap peningkatan indeks kuning telur, tidak berpengaruh nyata (P0,05) terhadap peningkatan indeks putih telur, berpengaruh nyata (P0,05) terhadap peningkatan nilaihaugh unit. Penyimpanan pada suhu kamar dan refrigerator berpengaruh sangat nyata (P0,01) terhadap kualitas indeks kuning telur, indeks putih telur dan nilai haugh unit. Pemberian sinbiotik AKBISprob 4% dengan interval pemberian tiga hari sekali pada ayam dapat meningkatkan indeks kuning telur, dan nilai haugh unit.Penyimpanan telur pada refrigerator dapat mempertahankan kualitas telur lebih baik dibandingkan suhu kamar.Abstract The aim of this research is to find out the quality of eggs by egg yolk index, eeg white index, andvalue haugh unit, which were stored at room temperature and refrigerator, in chickens fed synbiotic AKBISprob 4%. This research took a sample of 24 eggs from 12 hens laying strain ISA Brown period was 16 months. The design was completely randomized factorial design, main factor was giving symbiotic AKBISprob, second factor was storage at room temperature and refrigerator. P0’s treatment (egg from chicken fed commercial 324-2R as control), P1 (egg from chicken fed synbiotic AKBISprob 4% were given every day), P2 (egg from chicken fed synbiotic AKBISprob 4% were given once three days), P3 (egg from chicken fed synbiotic AKBISprob 4% were given once five days). The results showed the interaction between the giving of symbiotic AKBISprob 4% and storage at room temperature and refrigerator had no significant effect (P0,05) on increased of  egg yolk index, white egg index, and value haugh unit, giving synbiotic AKBISprob 4% had significant effect (P0,01) on increased of index egg yolk, had no significant effect (P0,05) on increased of index white egg, had significant effect (P0,05) on increased value haugh unit. Storage at room temperature had very significant effect (P0,01) on quality of egg yolk index, white egg index, and value haughunit. Giving synbiotic AKBISprob 4% with three-day intervals on the chicken could increase egg yolk index andvalue haugh unit. Egg storage on refrigerator could maintain the egg quality better than room temperature.

Abstract

ABSTRAKLeukosit adalah sel pertahanan tubuh yang berfungsi memfagosit seluruh benda yang dianggap asing oleh tubuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jumlah total leukosit dan persentase diferensial leukosit kelinci setelah pemasangan implant plate material logam. Penelitian ini menggunakan 6 ekor kelinci yang dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok. Kelompok I (K-I) diimplan plate tantalum dan kelompok II (K-II) diimplan plate besi. Pengambilan darah melalui vena auricularis pada hari ke 0, 7, 14, 28, dan 56 setelah implan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan implan plate tantalum dan plate  besi tidak berpengaruh terhadap total leukosit dan diferensial leukosit. Total leukosit diantara hari pengamatan menunjukan perbedaan pada masing-masing kelompok, namun masih dalam nilai normal. Penggunaan implan plate tantalum dan plate besi tidak memiliki efek terhadap gambaran sel darah putih dan persentase diferensial leukosit.Kata kunci : leukosit, diferensial leukosit, plate besi, plate tantalumABSTRACTLeukocytes are the body's defense cells that function to phagocyte all objects considered as foreign by the body. This study aims to determine the total leukocytes and differential percentage of rabbit leukocytes that paired of plate implants with metal material. This study used 6 rabbits divided into 2 groups. Group I was implanted with tantalum plate and group II  was implanted using an iron plate. Blood collection through the auricular vein on days 0, 7, 14, 28, and 56. Leukocyte and differential counts leukocytes are calculated using the Mindray hematology analyzer. The results of the study showed that tantalum implants and iron plates have no effect on total leukocytes and differentials leukocytes. The total leukocytes between observations show differences, but are still deep in normal range. The use of tantalum implants and iron plates has no effect against white blood cell images and differential leukocyte percentages.Keywords: leukocytes, differential leukocytes, iron plate, tantalum plate

Abstract

ABSTRAK                Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perubahan nilai Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) dan Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) kelinci setelah implan plate berbahan logam. Penelitian ini menggunakan 6 ekor kelinci yang dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok. Kelompok 1 diimplan plate berbahan tantalum dan kelompok 2 diimplan plate berbahan besi. Pengambilan darah melalui vena auricularis dilakukan pada hari ke 0, 7, 14, 28, dan 56. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai SGOT dan SGPT meningkat pada beberapa hari pertama pengamatan dan menurun kembali pada beberapa hari terakhir pengamatan yang masih dalam batas normal. Penggunaan implan plate tantalum dan plate besi alternatif menyebabkan perubahan nilai SGOT dan SGPT pada beberapa hari pengamatan.Kata Kunci : SGOT, SGPT, Plate, Tantalum, Besi ABSTRACT            This study aims to determine changes in Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) and Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) values of rabbit after a metal implant plate. This study used 6 rabbits divided into 2 groups. Group one implanted a plate made from tantalum and group two implanted with alternative iron plates. Blood collection through the auricular vein was carried out on days 0, 7, 14, 28, and 56. The results showed that the value of SGOT and SGPT increased in several days of observation and increased again on the final day which was still within normal limits. The use of tantalum implants and alternative iron plates causes changes in the value of SGOT and SGPT on several days of observation.Keyword : SGOT, SGPT, Plate, Tantalum, Iron

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengisolasi bakteri Salmonella sp pada air tempat pemeliharaan kura-kura ambon (Cuora amboinensis). Sampel penelitian ini menggunakan  air yang berasal dari sumber air yang akan dimasukan ke tempat pemeliharan dan air dari tempat pemeliharaan kura-kura ambon (Cuora amboinensis) yang diambil dari enam tempat pemeliharan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Carter. Sebanyak 1 ml air dari masing-masing sumber diambil dengan pipet steril dan diinokulasikan pada media SCB. Apabila warna SCB menjadi orange setelah diinkubasi pada suhu 37°C selama 24 jam maka akan dilanjutkan dengan penanaman pada media SSA. Koloni yang tumbuh pada media SSA diamati morfologi koloninya secara makroskopis. Untuk pengamatan secara mikroskopis maka dilakukan pewarnaan Gram. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dari keenam sampel air tempat pemeliharaan kura-kura ambon (Cuora amboinensis) yang diteliti positif terdapat bakteri Salmonella sp. Berdasarkan penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa Salmonella sp dapat diisolasi pada air yang diambil dari enam tempat pemeliharaan kura-kura ambon (Cuora amboinensis).
