Abstract

Abstract. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the possibility of jaloh (Salix tetrasperma) leaf  powders as alternative raw material for tilapia fish feed. Four concentrations of jaloh leafe powders  (0%, 5%, 10% and 15%) were examined in this study. The experimental fish were fed three times a day on  08.00AM, 12.00AM and 17.00PM. with feeding ration of 5% of body weight for 42 days. The one-way Anova test showed that the different concentrations of jaloh leaf powders gave a significantly effect on growth performance of tilapia larvae (p 0.05), but did not give a significant effect on their survival rate (p0.05). The Duncans test showed that the higher growth performace and survival rate were found at 5-10% of jaloh leaf powders, it was indicated that diet with 5-10% jaloh leaf powders were better than control (without jaloh leaf powders). Therefore, it is concluded that the jaloh leaf powders is suitable as alternative raws material for tilapia formulated diet at concentration of 5-10%.  Key words: Protein, carbohydrate and alternative feed Abstrak.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to identified the compounds in ethanol extract of soursop flower and determined the antibacterial activity of the soursop flower extract on Salmonella enteritidis. The phytochemistry screening was done to identify the secondary metabolite compounds of this extract. The concentrations used of ethanol extract of soursop flower were 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, with ampicillin 10 μg/disc as the positive control and 10% Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) as the negative control. The antibacterial activity test of soursop flower ethanol extract against Salmonella enteritidis was held in vitro using the paper disc diffusion method by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone. The phytochemistry screening showed that the ethanol extract of soursop flower had secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, phenolic, and flavonoid. The result of the antibacterial activity test showed that there was no inhibition zone (bright zone) at various concentrations. So, it can be concluded that soursop flower ethanol extract (Annona muricata L.) contained the secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, phenolic, and flavonoid, and also this extract had no antibacterial activity against Salmonella enteritidis

Abstract

Exposure to heat conditions is one of the causes of heat stress for broilers. This research was conducted to determine the effect of administering jaloh extract (Salix tetrasperma Roxb) in drinking water to broiler chickens with heat stress condition on fat levels and muscle water content (intramuscular). This research was conducted using a completely randomized design with a sample of 15 broiler chickens strain MB 90 aged 21 days which placed in individual cages and a temperature of 34 ± 1ºC was set for  4 hours/day for 7 consecutive days. The treatment groups were as follows: P0 as control group without jaloh extract; P1 was given jaloh extract at a dose of 50 mg/l; P2 was given jaloh extract at a dose of 100 mg/l in drinking water. Each treatment group consisted of 5 replications. The data were analyzed using ANOVA test, and then continued with the Duncan test. The results showed that jaloh extract at a dose of 100 mg/l in drinking water could increase the fat content of meat up to 16.63% and could reduce the water content to 44.52%. It could be concluded that the administration of jaloh extract at a dose of 100 mg/l in drinking water could increase fat levels and reduce intramuscular muscle water content in broiler chickens with heat stress condition
