Abstract

In order to give the lecturer with the necessary information to construct effective teaching practices for preparation, in-class activities, and evaluation, the capacities and requirements of students performing translation work should be determined as early as possible. With regard to the students’ interest, expectations, knowledge, abilities, and experience, among other factors, this preliminary study sought to determine the students’ capacities and requirements. The preliminary research participants were third-semester students enrolled in the English Language Education department of a university in Lamongan Regency, who planned to enroll in translation courses during the next three semesters. Through the use of both closed- and open-ended survey questions, the descriptive approach was used in this study. Based on a few theories of teaching and learning translation, such as those proposed by Duff (1994), Gile (1995), Tisgam (2009), Clavijo & Marin (2013), and Wang (2014), the data were examined. The data analysis’s elaborations primarily addressed the students’ capacities and requirements to acquire thorough and understandable explanations of the indicated components. Following data analysis, recommendations were made for how to create a teaching design that included instructional strategies, materials, kinds of practices, and evaluation.

Abstract

Adolescence is a period of transition from children to adulthood, during which many physical and psychological developments occur. One of the physical developments that occur in children towards adolescence is menarche. Menarche is a condition in which a girl experiences her first menstruation or first menstrual bleeding through the birth canal as a sign of fertility. Menarche is a sign of sexual maturity in girls. Currently, children tend to experience menarche more quickly with an age range of 10-12 years. If this condition is not in line with the increase in children's knowledge about menarche, it will certainly cause feelings of anxiety, embarrassment, and not ready for the changes that are taking place. The purpose of doing this community service is to increase knowledge in children through counseling activities about readiness in dealing with early menarche. The results obtained are an increase in children's knowledge about readiness in facing menarche. The conclusion is that there is an effect of counseling on readiness in facing menarche on increasing knowledge in children

Abstract

This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of "Speakia" as a medium for enhancing English speaking skills. A descriptive qualitative research design was employed to analyze the responses collected through a structured questionnaire combined with qualitative interviews and a literature review from related studies. The instrument comprised 15 questions using a 5-point Likert Scale, accompanied by an open-ended section for additional comments. The questions addressed students’ positive impressions of Speakia, specific benefits, levels of motivation and comfort, encountered difficulties, and suggestions for improvement. A purposive sampling technique was utilized to thoughtfully select participants who could provide valuable insights related to the research objectives. The study involved 29 participants (13 males and 16 females) from an Islamic primary school in Lamongan, Indonesia. Findings indicated that the majority of students responded positively to the use of Speakia, reporting increased confidence and comfort in speaking English. However, less than 10% of the participants experienced difficulties, particularly in comprehending the audio pronunciations provided by Speakia, largely due to unfamiliarity with native speaker accents. The study concludes that the selection of appropriate learning media plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of language learning, influencing student engagement, and ultimately, the effectiveness of instructional delivery. Speakia is positively received as an online learning medium, demonstrating its efficacy in fostering both student engagement and proficiency in English language acquisition. The findings offer valuable data-driven insights for educators, policymakers, and developers, enabling them to refine or expand the use of such technological tools

Abstract

This study investigates students' experiences and challenges when presenting at international Islamic conferences, focusing on their confidence and self-expression. Using a qualitative case study design, two participants were selected through purposive sampling, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The results revealed that while students expressed enthusiasm for participating in these events, they faced several challenges, including time constraints, language barriers, and adapting to the expectations of diverse audiences. Confidence levels varied; some students felt reasonably confident, while others demonstrated higher self-assurance due to thorough preparation. The findings emphasize the importance of preparation, language proficiency, and cultural sensitivity when presenting at international academic forums, especially in Islamic forums. The study also highlights the need for academic institutions to provide better support to help students develop these critical skills. Future research could explore a broader range of participants and contexts and the long-term development of public speaking confidence in such settings.
