Abstract

Plantation crops remain a central choice for many farmers because of their promising yields, and clove is among the most valued due to its strong market demand. Despite this potential, clove cultivation frequently faces constraints, particularly sudden stem bud decline and disease susceptibility. These problems often arise from land that does not meet the crop’s ecological requirements, yet many farmers still find it difficult to obtain reliable and timely information on land suitability. Spatial data offers an effective solution because it provides rapid and up to date insights into environmental conditions without requiring farmers to visit each site. When combined with big data and smart farming technologies, spatial information becomes even more useful, since farmers can monitor climate patterns, soil temperature and soil texture more easily. This study aims to generate accurate information on land suitability for clove cultivation through spatial big data and to demonstrate the role of smart farming systems in detecting suitability levels. Using a quantitative approach, land conditions were classified into four suitability categories which include very suitable, suitable, marginal and not suitable. Landsat imagery from Sinjai Regency in 2024 identified approximately 24,566 pixels or 2,282 hectares of land used for clove cultivation. These areas were concentrated in South Sinjai, Central Sinjai, Sinjai Borong and West Sinjai. Additional land cover classes consisted of primary forest, rice fields, settlements, secondary forest, annual crops and mixed plantations. The classification results were supported by categorical accuracy testing, highlighting the need to evaluate each land use type individually to ensure the reliability of the spatial interpretation.

Abstract

Abstract.  This study aims to analyze independent village innovation in Tellu Limpoe District, Sinjai Regency, focusing on three villages, namely Sukamaju Village, Kalobba Village, and Pattongko Village. The analysis was conducted based on four main indicators of innovation diffusion theory: innovation, communication channels, timeframe, and social systems. This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The data analysis techniques used by the author are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the three villages have different innovation characteristics in an effort to achieve village independence. In terms of innovation indicators, the three villages have succeeded in implementing innovative programs that have never existed before, especially in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, community empowerment, management of BUMDes, and information technology innovation implemented through digital administration systems and the application of Appropriate Technology. From the communication channel aspect, building an integrated communication system that combines modern technology and traditional techniques. In terms of timeframe, the analysis shows that planned and implemented village innovations can achieve the planned targets according to the specified timeline, both in the short, medium, and long term. From a social system perspective, the community structure in Tellu Limpoe District, which is still strongly imbued with the values of mutual cooperation, has a significant influence on the success of innovation implementation. The main supporting factors for innovation success are transformational leadership, community participation, and synergy with external parties. Meanwhile, limited human resources, infrastructure, lack of ongoing technical assistance, and resistance to change are the main inhibiting factors.

Abstract

Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS) is the most widely used surfactant in industrial detergent formulations, generating waste that poses potential risks to environmental quality and human health. As an environmentally friendly alternative, palm oil–based Methyl Ester Sulfonate (MES) has renewable and biodegradable properties, stability in hard water and high salinity, and a faster degradation rate than LAS. However, direct comparative studies on the biodegradation rates of LAS and MES are still limited. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the biodegradation ability of Pseudomonas putida and Bacillus megaterium toward LAS and MES in vitro using the MBAS method. The experiment employed a Completely Randomized Design with a two-factor factorial arrangement and three replications, resulting in 12 experimental units. Biodegradation rates were determined by measuring surfactant concentrations at days 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 using UV-Vis spectrophotometry and linear regression analysis. The results showed a decrease in surfactant concentration over time in all treatments. Statistical analysis indicated no significant difference between LAS and MES biodegradation rates, but significant differences between bacterial species and their interaction with surfactant type.

Abstract

Journalists often observe Indonesia’s elections at close range in real time: gathering data, verifying facts, writing, and publishing accounts of the process. Yet research on journalists’ perceptions of elections remains limited and is usually framed through institutional or media-company perspectives. This study explores how journalists perceived the 2024 general election. Using a phenomenological design, it captured meanings drawn from reporters’ lived experiences of covering the election. Data were generated through in-depth interviews and thematic interpretation of their narratives. Informants were selected purposively: six political reporters in Mataram City from six different media outlets. Findings show a tendency toward negative perceptions of key stages, including presidential–vice presidential nominations, voter-list verification, the cooling-off period, and vote recapitulation. Journalists described the process as still centralized, viewed candidate selection as an economic contest rather than an ideas-driven one, and characterized the cooling-off period as chaotic. The study’s novelty lies in centering local journalists’ individual experiences across nearly all election stages, contrasting with prior work that emphasizes news content, normative journalistic roles, or media–elite relations.
