Abstract

Abstract This paper explores the strategic implementation of speaking assessments for the students of grade 3 in primary school. However, the primary challenges in speaking assessment include psychological barriers such as performance anxiety and a lack of authentic assessment instruments. This study aims to formulate an implementation strategy for speaking assessments that are effective, supportive, and appropriate for students in the concrete operational stage of development. This study employs a qualitative approach using literature review and classroom observation methods. Data were collected through curriculum analysis, a review of child developmental psychology literature, and an evaluation of various formative assessment techniques. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to determine the suitability of assessment techniques with the characteristics of eight to nine-year-old students. The findings indicate that the implementation of speaking assessment in Grade 3 is most effective when utilizing performance-based assessment integrated into daily activities, such as "Show and Tell," role-playing, and picture-based descriptions. The use of useful tools, such as sentence and visual prompts, significantly reduces "affective filters" and encourages more complex oral production. The effective speaking assessment in Grade 3 should prioritize comprehensibility over perfection, ensuring that the assessment can be a tool for building students' confidence rather than a problem of communication.

Abstract

Improving the quality of education requires a quality assurance system that is not only oriented toward administrative aspects but also capable of creating meaningful, contextual, and sustainable learning. This study is based on the limitations of the implementation of the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI), which remains focused on fulfilling administrative standards and has not fully developed a quality culture to support deep learning. This study aims to analyze the implementation of a local culture-based SPMI and its contribution to improving the quality of deep learning at SD Negeri Karangsari. The research employed a mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential design through interviews, observations, documentation, deep learning assessments, and student engagement scales. The results showed that local culture-based SPMI had a positive and significant relationship with deep learning, with a correlation coefficient of 0.71 and a contribution of 51% with R² = 0.51. These findings confirm that local culture can serve as a foundation for developing quality standards, evaluation indicators, and school improvement strategies that are relevant to community characteristics while strengthening a sustainable school quality culture.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the principal’s humanistic leadership in enhancing teachers’ teaching motivation at SMP Muhammadiyah Pucang Gading. It is grounded in the complexity of educational systems, where low teacher motivation is often linked to bureaucratic leadership styles, excessive workload, limited appreciation, and insufficient emotional support. Although prior studies confirm the importance of effective leadership, research focusing on humanistic leadership—emphasizing empathy, fairness, individual development, and positive relationships—remains limited, particularly in Islamic-based secondary schools in Indonesia. This research aims to analyze how humanistic leadership contributes to improving teaching motivation and to identify its key dimensions, including empathy, participatory communication, and professional support. A qualitative field study approach was employed, involving purposively selected participants such as the principal, vice principals, teachers, and staff. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using interactive techniques with triangulation and member checking to ensure validity. The findings reveal that humanistic leadership has been positively implemented through empathetic practices, open two-way communication, professional development support, and a harmonious organizational culture, significantly enhancing teacher motivation. However, challenges remain, including inconsistent communication, administrative burdens, individual resistance, and limited facilities. Overall, this approach effectively fosters a supportive work environment and teachers’ psychological well-being.
