Abstract

This research deals with the teaching reading through think pair share strategy (TPS) at the fourth semester students of English Education Department, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, NTT. The population of this research is the Fourth Semester Students of English Education Department, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, NTT.  Reading test was the instrument of this research. Based on the findings and discussion, the researcher concludes that the use of think pair share strategy parallel writing technique is effective in developing students’ vocabulary in writing at the Fourth Semester Students of English Education Department, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, NTT.  It was proven by there was a significant difference between the students’ mean score of pretest and posttest. In pretest, the students’ mean score is 26 and the students’ score in posttest is 51. In addition, the result of statistical analysis for level of significance (p=0.05). The probability value was smaller than α (0.00<0.05). it indicated that there is significant differences between the result of pre-test and post-test after giving treatment in building students’ reading skill ng by applying think pair share strategy (TPS) to the fourth semester students of English Education Department, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, NTT.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out the students’ ability in writing argumentative essay at SMAN 1 Soe Kab. Timur Tengah Selatan NTT.  The researcher will focus on evaluating the students’ writing ability in one aspect of writing namely mechanics.  The researcher applied quantitative method and descriptive analysis design. The research was conducted in August 2017. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Soe Kabupaten Timur Tengah Selatan NTT..  The population of this research was the eleventh grade students at SMAN 1 Soe Kabupaten Timur Tengah Selatan NTT in the 2018/2019 academic year. The number of population is 142 in four classes. The researcher took 5 students from each class as the sample of the research.  Therefore, there were 20 students as sample. The test was used to find out the students’ ability in writing argumentative essay. In collecting data, the researcher asked the students to write an argumentative essay by choosing one of the give topics. To analyze the data, the researcher focused on evaluating the students’ writing in mechanics criteria. The result of the research shows that the students still have low ability in using mechanics in writing argumentative essay. The mean score of students is 2.45.  In the students’ writing, most of the students got problem in: (1) The use of capital in the beginning of a sentence.  Many of students still use small letter when they write the first letter in the beginning of a paragraph. (2)The students still use some capital letter in the middle of sentences. They write with capital letter in not appropriate position. (3) Some students still do not understand about the use of comma and point in a sentence.

Abstract

Recent technological advancement and the betterment of socio-cultural welfare put design knowledge at the forefront of life as its practice develops into more than 'activity of making'. Rapid prototyping, 3D printing, internet-of-things, and wide array of networking channels may ease the burden of producing objects. For the past 20 years, the practice of design has addressed 'activity of research' beyond previous ordinary know-how in making object. Indonesia"”more specifically the postgraduate programme of the Faculty of Visual Art and Design, ITB"”has embedded research activities in design education since 1990s, yet there is no objective review on how this 'activity of design research' is managed and learned upon. To address this issue, this study was conducted through literature review by examining 327 master's degree theses in design program (2015-2018) using content analysis on approach, output, and focus of research. A thematic content analysis was applied to identify the intertwined relation on the context of the produced knowledge and approaches to strategies in design research as derived from those of graduates' thesis. By exploring master's degree thesis in design program, the paper exposes weaknesses and advantages on approaching research in design. The result encourages us to learn from our past experiences in conducting academic program and managing research in design to prepare for more applicable and suited design education with societal needs, which serves as the main contribution in the discussions.   Kemajuan teknologi baru-baru ini dan peningkatan kesejahteraan sosial-budaya menjadikan pengetahuan desain berada di garis depan kehidupan, karena praktiknya berkembang menjadi lebih dari sekedar 'aktivitas pembuatan. Prototipe, pencetakan 3 dimensi, internet untuk semua hal, dan beragam saluran jaringan yang berkembang dengan cepat dapat meringankan beban produksi objek. Selama 20 tahun terakhir, praktik desain telah membahas 'kegiatan penelitian' di luar pengetahuan biasa dalam membuat objek. Indonesia "”khususnya program pascasarjana Fakultas Seni Rupa dan Desain, ITB"” telah memasukkan kegiatan penelitian dalam pendidikan desain sejak tahun 1990-an, namun tidak ada ulasan objektif tentang bagaimana 'kegiatan penelitian desain' ini dikelola dan dipelajari. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, penelitian dilakukan melalui tinjauan pustaka dengan menganalisis 327 tesis mahasiswa magister program desain (2015-2018) menggunakan analisis konten pada pendekatan, output, dan fokus penelitian. Analisis konten tematik diterapkan untuk mengidentifikasi hubungan yang saling terkait pada konteks pengetahuan yang dihasilkan dan pendekatan strategi dalam penelitian desain yang berasal dari tesis lulusan. Dengan menganalisis tesis mahasiswa magister program desain, penelitian ini memaparkan kelemahan dan kekuatan pendekatan penelitian di bidang desain. Hasil mendorong kami untuk belajar dari pengalaman masa lalu dalam menyelengkarakan program akademik dan mengelola penelitian di bidang desain, supaya pendidikan desain yang lebih sesuai dan cocok dengan kebutuhan masyarakat dapat dipersiapkan. Hal ini berfungsi sebagai kontribusi utama dalam penelitian ini.

Abstract

Drowsiness is one of the main factors causing traffic accidents. Research on drowsiness can effectively reduce the traffic accident rate. According to the existing literature, this paper divides the current measurement techniques into subjective and objective ones. Among them, invasive detection and non-invasive detection based on vehicles or drivers are the main objective detection methods.Then, this paper studies the characteristics of drowsiness, and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of each detection method in practical application. Finally, the development of detection technology is prospected, and provides ideas for the follow-up development of fatigue driving detection technology.

Abstract

The selection and use of appropriate textbooks in the lecture process is an important factor for improving science process skills. This study aims to develop textbooks on plant morphological characteristics that are valid, practical, and effective in increasing students' ability to identify plants. The method used is research and development with a design Plomp model which consists of five stages in the form of (1) initial investigation, (2) design, (3) realization, (4) testing, evaluation, and revision, (implementation). The subjects of this study were students who took plant anatomy and morphology courses, the academic year 2020/2021 of the STKIP Soe Biology education study program. Data collection techniques in the form of observation, tests, and questionnaires. The product in the form of a textbook developed was tested for validity based on the research results of the expert team as a validator. The practicality of the product was tested using a student and lecturer response questionnaire analysis. The textbook effectiveness test was carried out through quasi-experimental research with analytical techniques using an independent sample T-test and normalized gain scores. The results showed that the textbooks developed were valid, practical, and effective to improve students' ability to identify plant species.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of students to identify plant species and to identify the types of plants identified. This type of research is quantitative descriptive with the subject of 29 students of Biology Education Study Program STKIP Soe in the 2018/2019 school year who took the course of Plant Anatomy and Morphology. The research began with the preparation of the instrument, taking students to explore plants in the campus environment and taking specimens identification, then providing identification test questions. Observations were made during student activities. Data processing of test results and observation sheets by counting the total score and converted into a value form then interpreting the value based on the predicate. Based on the results of research students ‘ability to identify plants based on indicators observing the characteristics of plant specimens achieved only students look capable but not maximal so categorized enough and the results of observations of students’ ability to identify plant species in the medium category. The results of identification there are 43 types of plants that are classified into 27 families.

Abstract

Reading activities in this paper includes the habit of students in reading in their daily lives such as reading books, magazine, articles, online news and articles etc. Writing performance is the ability of students in expressing their ideas in written forms or paragraph. The aimed of the research is to find out the contribution of reading activities towards the students writing performance. This research applied descriptive method to describe the correlation between the reading activities and the students’ ability in writing. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Soe, Kabupaten Timur Tengah Selatan (TTS), NTT. Findings of the research show that the reading habits of students have significant contribution towards the students’ writing ability. Mean score the reading is 81.13 and standard deviation is 8.26 and writing mean score is 68.93 and standard deviation is 8.12. The correlation test using Pearson Product Moment with SPSS 20 software program found that the score of significance is 991, which is higher than α score (991 ≥ 07), is classified as a good correlation. It indicates that when the students have a good reading habit, it will give good contribution towards their competence in writing.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the healthy level of the Credit Cooperative Samamora in TaubnenoDistricts, Soe City, South Central Timor Regency, and its development in 2012-2016 in terms ofSeven Aspects i.e Capital, Assets Quality, Management, Efficiency, Liquidity, Autonomy andGrowth, and Self-Identity. This was an descriptive study, in which the object was the Healthy ofCredit Cooperative Samamora in 2012-2016. The data analysis was case study approach referringto Regulations of the State Minister of Cooperative and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises No.14/Per/M.KUKM/XII//2009 about an evaluation of the healthy level of the cooperative.. Theresult indicated that Credit Cooperative Samamora in 2012-2016 : (1) The aspect of Capital was inthe moderate healthy level. (2) The aspect of Quality of Productive Assets was in the moderatehealthy level. (3) The aspect of Management was in the moderate healthy level. (4) The aspect ofEfficiency was in the moderate healthy level. (5) The aspect of Liquidity which was in the ratherunhealthy level. (6) The aspect of Autonomy and Growth was in the the unhealthy level. (7) Theaspect of Self-Identity was in the moderate healthy category. The progress of healthy level at CreditCooperative Samamora in 2012-2016 experienced fluctuation. In 2012,2013 and 2015 CreditCooperative Samamora was in the moderately healthy and in 2014 and 2016 was in the unhealthylevel, with average score obtained is 60,80 which was moderate healthy category.Keywords : Cooperative, Health Level

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku ajar karakteristik morfologi tumbuhan yang valid, praktis dan efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengidentifikasi tumbuhan pada matakuliah anatomi dan morfologi tumbuhan. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan dengan desain pengembangan mengikuti model Plomp yang terdiri dari lima tahapan berupa (1) investigasi awal, (2) desain, (3) realisasi/konstruksi, (4) tes, evaluasi dan revisi, (implementasi). Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah anatomi dan morfologi tumbuhan, tahun akademik 2020/2021 program studi pendidikan Biologi STKIP Soe. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, tes dan angket. Produk berupa buku ajar karakteristik morfologi tumbuhan yang dikembangkan diuji validitasnya berdasarkan hasil penelitian dari tim ahli sebagai validator. Kepraktisan produk diuji menggunakan analisis angket respon mahasiswa dan dosen. Uji keefektifan buku ajar untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengidentifikasi tumbuhan dilakukan melalui penelitian quasi eksperimen dengan teknik analisis menggunakan uji t sampel independen dan skor gain normalisasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa buku ajar karakteristik morfologi tumbuhan yang dikembangkan valid, praktis dan efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengidentifikasi jenis tumbuhan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw dan Make a Match terhadap hasil belajar kognitif siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperiment pola M-G (matched group design) yang melibatkan 2 kelas yaitu kelas yang menggunakan model pembelajaran tipe Jigsaw dan kelas yang menggunakan model Make a Match. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes hasil belajar yang di analisis menggunakan uji Ttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata pengaruh model pembelajaran pada kelompok Jigsaw (77.50)  dan kelompok Make a Match (55.25), sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar siswa antara model Jigsaw dan Make a Match pada pokok bahasan sistem ekskresi pada manusia. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw lebih berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar kognitif siswa dibandingkan dengan model Make a Match
