Abstract

In the face of increasing demands for 21st-century skills, chemistry education must advance to better support students in developing problem-solving abilities. Effective chemistry learning models are crucial in addressing this need. This study examines the impact of the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) model, equipped with the Mind Mapping method, on students' creative thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes in salt hydrolysis. A quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design was used in this research. Cluster random sampling was employed for sample selection. The sample consisted of 72 students from a school in Surakarta City. Data were collected using a test instrument with eight essay questions to assess creative thinking skills and six essay questions to evaluate cognitive learning outcomes. Non-parametric statistical tests were utilized for data analysis. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis™s test produce sig. (0.000 < 0.05) which means the hypothesis is accepted. The results showed that applying the CPS learning model with mind mapping affected students' creative thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes so that it can be used as an alternative learning model to improve 21st-century skills. This research contributes new insights into applying the Mind Mapping-assisted CPS learning model for chemistry education.

Abstract

This study explores high school chemistry teachers’ perceptions of culturally responsive teaching (CRT) in stoichiometry learning with an orientation toward green chemistry principles. CRT provides a framework for integrating local culture, while green chemistry oriented highlights sustainability in learning abstract topics such as stoichiometry. This qualitative descriptive study involved nine Indonesian chemistry teachers selected purposively from active high school chemistry teachers familiar with stoichiometry and green chemistry. Although the sample size was limited, it provided data saturation and in-depth insights from teachers’ experiences. Data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire covering seven aspects, including teachers’ understanding of CRT, integration of local culture and green chemistry orientation in stoichiometry teaching, and perceived needs. Thematic analysis identified six themes related to teaching barriers, instructional practices, teachers’ CRT understanding, cultural integration, green chemistry orientation, and professional development needs. While teachers expressed strong support for CRT with a green chemistry orientation, implementation remains limited by structural and pedagogical constraints. The study underscores the importance of targeted support to empower teachers in fostering culturally responsive and sustainability-oriented chemistry learning, while acknowledging limitations related to the Indonesian context and the potential for social desirability bias in self-reported data.

Abstract

Scientific and technical advancements have intensified efforts to incorporate technological results into the teaching and learning process. As a result, new advancements in learning systems are required, such as the creation of Augmented Reality-based e-modules. In colloidal material research, Augmented Reality on an Android tablet is employed in modified Chemistry E-modules to increase student engagement and learning outcomes. The objectives of this research are to create e-modules, evaluate their use, and analyze the impact of chemistry e-modules on learning outcomes and student participation. The feasibility of e-modules is determined through the validation test of 9 validators consisting of media experts, linguists and teaching practitioners. While the e-module was tested on 3 scales, namely limited scale, medium scale and wide scale on respondents, namely grade XI students at SMA Islam Terpadu Baitul Muslim, SMA Teladan, SMA TQ Al Mannan in East Lampung Regency. Based on the research, the academic results and attention spans of grade XI pupils are impacted by chemistry e-modules with customized Augmented Reality on colloid material, A 0.005 significance level has been set. Furthermore, the N-gain value indicates a difference in the attention and learning outcomes of grade XI pupils before and after utilizing the program. Students who do not study the material through e-modules have N-gain values in the low category, while students who study the material through e-modules have N-gain in the high category. In the validation test by validators, it is known that the Aiken coefficient value (V-count) is greater than 0.8 with a very good Likert scale interpretation.

Abstract

The HOTS question instrument is important in learning. Through HOTS students are trained to learn things at a higher level, think critically in receiving information, think creatively in problem solving, and make the right decisions in complex situations. These various abilities are certainly needed in the face of changing life dynamics. This situation requires us to continue to adapt, so the ability of HOTS is very important to be developed as an effort to improve the ability to think at a higher level and prepare ourselves to face problems in life. This makes the author interested in developing a problem-based HOTS problem instrument on pressure material. This research uses R&D techniques that refer to Thiagarajan's (1974) 3-D procedural model. The instrument consists of 10 description questions that refer to 5 indicators, namely: analyzing; Evaluate; Created; Troubleshooting; and critical thinking skills. The instrument was validated by 7 experts with the validity analysis technique Aiken (1950). The results of the analysis obtained: suitability of the question with bloom's taxonomy (88%), suitability of the question with the answer (86%), feasibility of language (85%); and the feasibility of presenting the question (84%). This proves that all aspects of the instrument are declared valid because Vcount > Vtable Aiken, Vtable Aiken 75%, so it is concluded that this instrument is declared valid and feasible to be used to test the higher-order thinking skills of learners.
