Abstract

Two-Tier Multiple Choice Virtual Reality (TTMCVR) with ethnochemical content is used to measure the level of misconceptions and understanding of students on chemical bond materials that have good quality and tested. This development aims to test the readability and effectiveness of TTMCVR based on the results of validity and limited trials as a reference that the developed assessment is feasible to use to identify students' misconceptions and understanding of chemical bonding materials. This research method applies Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model (Analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation). This study used 18 students and 3 teachers in 3 public high schools in Surakarta. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Data obtained in the form of instrument results include interview tests, TTMCVR assessments and open-ended questionnaires. The results showed that TTMCVR obtained validation based on aspects of context, language, and construction on the items and storyboard from 16 experts, namely 9 chemistry education lecturers from UNS, UNY and UM and 7 high school chemistry teachers in Surakarta resulting in 15 items and 16 valid storyboard indicators with Aiken index ≥ 0.73. The limited trial stage shows that TTMCVR is able to detect the level of understanding and misconceptions of students with criteria, namely understanding the concept of 26%, misconceptions 32% and not understanding 41% on ethnochemically charged chemical bonding material on ice gempol pleret. In addition, TTMCVR is classified as having a high level of readability and effectiveness as an assessment assessment from the material and media aspects of 90% from student responses and teacher responses. Therefore, it can be concluded that based on the validity and readability of TTMCVR, it is feasible to be further developed for assessment.     Keywords: chemical bonding, ethnochemistry, misconceptions, two-tier multiple choice virtual reality.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1498-1517

Abstract

The HOTS question instrument is important in learning. Through HOTS students are trained to learn things at a higher level, think critically in receiving information, think creatively in problem solving, and make the right decisions in complex situations. These various abilities are certainly needed in the face of changing life dynamics. This situation requires us to continue to adapt, so the ability of HOTS is very important to be developed as an effort to improve the ability to think at a higher level and prepare ourselves to face problems in life. This makes the author interested in developing a problem-based HOTS problem instrument on pressure material. This research uses R&D techniques that refer to Thiagarajan's (1974) 3-D procedural model. The instrument consists of 10 description questions that refer to 5 indicators, namely: analyzing; Evaluate; Created; Troubleshooting; and critical thinking skills. The instrument was validated by 7 experts with the validity analysis technique Aiken (1950). The results of the analysis obtained: suitability of the question with bloom's taxonomy (88%), suitability of the question with the answer (86%), feasibility of language (85%); and the feasibility of presenting the question (84%). This proves that all aspects of the instrument are declared valid because Vcount > Vtable Aiken, Vtable Aiken 75%, so it is concluded that this instrument is declared valid and feasible to be used to test the higher-order thinking skills of learners.

Abstract

This study aims to prove the effectiveness of the PjBL-STEM model on students' critical thinking ability in science learning. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. The experimental class in this research received the treatment of the PjBL-STEM model, and the control class received the treatment of the PjBL model. The research population was class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Dukun for the 2022/2023 academic year, which consisted of six classes. Meanwhile, the research sample was selected using a cluster random sampling technique, with class VIII E as the experimental class and class VIII F as the control class. This research data is the difference in pretest-posttest scores (gain scores) of students' critical thinking ability, which was analyzed by the right-sided t-test. The results of the independent sample t-test showed tcount>ttable (4.012>1.669) and Pvalue<0.05 (0.000<0.05), which means the test decision is H0 is rejected. So, it can be proven that the effect of the PjBL-STEM model on students' critical thinking skills in science learning is greater than the control class, which is supported by the N-gain value in the experimental class of 0.417 (medium) and control class of 0.246 (low).

Abstract

The 21st-century learning needs to be applied in science learning amidst the rapid development of this era to equip students with important skills, such as critical thinking skills. One of the factors that affect the success of learning is a learning model that has unique characteristics. The Group Investigation Learning Model is a learning model that allows students to play an active role in determining their learning goals and processes, including critical thinking skills. To see the application of the Group Investigation Learning Model in improving critical thinking skills, it is necessary to carry out a literature review study using the VOSviewer. This research used the publish or publish method with the Google Scholar database and obtained 985 articles selected using certain criteria to obtain 76 relevant articles. The results of the analysis with the VOSviewer based on network, overlay, and density visualization, show that the Group Investigation Learning Model is used to improve 21st-century skills, including critical thinking skills. Further analysis shows that research on high school biology subjects that apply the Group Investigation Learning Model dominates compared to other science fields. The implications of the results of this review can be a reference for further research to implement and develop learning models to improve critical thinking skills at the elementary and junior high school levels.

Abstract

Assessment in education plays a critical role in evaluating not only students’ cognitive understanding but also broader 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. However, traditional assessments often prioritize conceptual knowledge over these essential skills. This study investigates current trends in assessment within science education to identify gaps and potential improvements. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted using articles sourced from the Google Scholar database between 2014 and 2024. The search employed keywords such as “assessment learning” and “science learning.” A total of 992 articles were initially collected, which were then filtered based on relevance and quality, resulting in 76 eligible articles. Data analysis was supported by Publish or Perish software and visualized using VOSviewer. The VOSviewer analysis produced network, overlay, and density visualizations that revealed a predominant focus on conceptual understanding in science education assessments. This focus likely stems from the relative ease of standardizing and measuring conceptual knowledge compared to more complex 21st-century skills. Other dimensions, such as creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, were significantly underrepresented in the literature. The findings highlight a need to diversify assessment strategies in science education to better reflect 21st-century learning goals. This review provides a foundation for future research aimed at developing comprehensive assessment instruments that go beyond cognitive evaluation and support holistic student development.
