Abstract

As of the year 2020, Indonesia has the fourth most populous country in the world. With Indonesia’s population expected to continuously grow, the increase in provision of healthcare needs to match its steady population growth. Hospitals are central in providing healthcare to the general masses, especially for patients requiring medical attention for an extended period of time. Length of Stay (LOS), or inpatient treatment, covers various treatments that are offered by hospitals, such as medical examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Generally, hospitals determine the LOS by calculating the difference between the number of admissions and the number of discharges. However, this procedure is shown to be unproductive for some hospitals. A cost-effective way to improve the productivity of hospital is to utilize Information Technology (IT). In this paper, we create a system for predicting LOS using Neural Network (NN) using a sample of 3055 subjects, consisting of 30 input attributes and 1 output attribute. The NN default parameter experiment and parameter optimization with grid search as well as random search were carried out. Our results show that parameter optimization using the grid search technique give the highest performance results with an accuracy of 94.7403% on parameters with a value of Epoch 50, hidden unit 52, batch size 4000, Adam optimizer, and linear activation. Our designated system can be utilised by hospitals in improving their effectiveness and efficiency, owing to better prediction of LOS and better visualization of LOS done by web visualization.

Abstract

Pancasila-based economics is a fundamental framework in shaping a just and equitable economic system oriented toward collective welfare. Cooperatives, as the embodiment of economic democracy, play a strategic role in implementing Pancasila values in economic activities. However, the dynamics of modern economic practices and organizational constraints often influence the optimal realization of these values. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Pancasila economic values in the management of Koperasi Tri Civitas, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, as well as to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. This research employs a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation involving supervisors, administrators, employees, and cooperative members. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of Pancasila values has been carried out in various aspects of cooperative management. The value of divinity is reflected in honesty, trustworthiness, and responsibility in financial management. The value of mutual cooperation is evident in collaboration among members and administrators. The value of kinship is shown through harmonious relationships and open communication, while the value of justice is implemented proportionally based on members’ contributions. Furthermore, the principles of Pancasila economics are applied through non-discriminatory services and the distribution of surplus (SHU) based on participation levels. Despite these efforts, challenges such as low member participation and limited managerial time remain. Therefore, strengthening the implementation of Pancasila economics is necessary to achieve more optimal cooperative performance.

Abstract

The Fruit Processing Industry is a food manufacturer that uses fresh fruit as raw materials to produce products such as jackfruit chips and banana chips. The rapid development of technology has pioneered the online marketing of products. The objective of this study is to compare the purchasing decisions of offline and online consumers in the Fruit Processing Industry in Bandar Lampung City in 2023. The respondents in this study consist of 30 offline consumers and 30 online consumers. Data collection was conducted from February to March 2023. The analysis method used is the 4P marketing mix analysis (product, price, place, and promotion) followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The results indicate that the average variable for offline and online consumers falls into the good category with a percentage of 78.08 percent and 79.85 percent respectively. The Mann-Whitney test results show no significant differences in consumer decision-making between online and offline channels concerning price and promotion. In contrast, significant differences exist for product and place, underscoring their influence on purchasing behavior. Based on the research findings, to balance purchasing decisions between offline and online, it is recommended that the small Fruit Processing Industry in Bandar Lampung City add special discounts or prices for purchases on certain days and adjust promotions to current trends to increase sales.

Abstract

Purpose – The primary objective of the study is to examine the effectiveness of metaphor-based instruction, including the use of teaching props, in enhancing students’ memory retention in Islamic religious education (IRE) lectures. Meanwhile, gender and class differences are treated as comparative variables to explore variations in memory retention across student groups rather than as the main focus of the intervention. The analysis of teaching props functions as a supplementary instructional dimension that strengthens the core metaphor-based strategy. Design/methods/approach – 134 students from five Islamic Religious Education lecture sessions at UIN Mataram participated in this study, which used a quantitative ex-post facto design. A validated 14-item structured memory test comprising metaphor-based instruction, metaphor-assisted teaching props, and student attitude characteristics was used to assess the students' memory recall. Data analysis used descriptive statistics (Rasch model), ANOVA, and post hoc. Findings – The results showed that female students had higher memory than male students. In addition, there were significant differences between classes, with class B showing the highest recall. The aspects of metaphor method and metaphor-assisted teaching aids obtained a percentage of achievement of 89% and 92%, respectively, while the aspect of student attitudes amounted to 69.6%. This study confirms that the metaphor method, especially those assisted by props, is effective in improving student recall in IRE lectures. Research implications/limitations – This research can be an initial reference for Islamic religious education lectures in implementing more varied learning methods. Lecturers also need to train students' attitudes in their teaching. As a result, the students not only   have  knowledge, but also good attitudes like  honesty  and responsibility. Originality/value – The use of the Rasch model and ANOVA test successfully explained the results in detail. The next step is to conduct comparative research on other lecture methods and universities.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the implementation of character education management at the Muhammadiyah Modern Boarding School (PPM MBS) Yogyakarta to improve student achievement. Character education is understood as an integrative process that internalises the six values upheld by PPM MBS Yogyakarta—sincerity, honesty, discipline, kinship, togetherness, and independence—through a boarding school-based education system. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects included the head of the senior high school, the deputy head for boarding school affairs, the head of the boarding school department, the discipline officer, the IPM (Islamic Student Association) mentor officer, the language officer, the tahfiz  and worship officer, the head of the boarding school section (   ), senior high school teachers, students, and parents. Data collection techniques involved in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Data analysis utilised an interactive model comprising data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, with triangulation of sources and methods to ensure data validity. The research findings indicate that character education management in boarding schools is implemented in an integrated manner through the formal curriculum, boarding life guidance, the cultivation of religious practices, the exemplary conduct of educators, and school culture. The implementation of this character education not only contributes to the formation of students’ personalities and attitudes but also has a positive impact on the improvement of academic and non-academic achievements. Key supporting factors include the boarding school system, the exemplary conduct of educators, and the religious environment. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors stem from the heterogeneity of students’ backgrounds and limitations in initial adaptation. This study produced an operational model of boarding school-based character education at senior secondary level that is practical and sustainable.

Abstract

The family is the first environment that plays an important role in shaping adolescents’ religious character. Communication between parents and children serves as the primary means of instilling religious values, moral principles, and social behavior. Adolescents who maintain good communication with their parents tend to demonstrate more positive religious attitudes. This study aims to examine the contribution of parental communication to the relisgious character of adolescents in Pematang Gajah Village, Jambi Luar Kota District, Muaro Jambi Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The research sample consisted of 98 adolescents selected from a population of 130 individuals using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires measuring aspects of parental communication (openness, empathy, intensity, and emotional support) and adolescents’ religious character (activeness in worship, honesty, politeness, and religious participation). Data analysis was conducted using normality tests, linearity tests, and simple linear regression. The results indicate that both parental communication and adolescents’ religious character fall within the moderate category. There is a significant contribution and a linear relationship between parental communication and adolescents’ religious character. These findings emphasize the importance of family communication in fostering adolescents’ religiosity

Abstract

Microplastics are extremely small plastic particles that have become a major concern in public health and environmental studies. This literature review aims to discuss the sources of microplastics, their routes of exposure to the human body, their distribution in organs, and their potential health impacts. The method used was a literature review of scientific articles and reports published from 2021 onward, retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and official websites of organizations such as the WHO, OECD, and the World Bank. The review findings show that microplastics originate from plastic waste, synthetic clothing, cosmetics, vehicle tires, and food packaging. These particles have been detected in blood, lungs, the placenta, feces, and various human tissues, indicating that human exposure is widespread. However, evidence from human studies is still limited, so cause-and-effect relationships cannot yet be confirmed with certainty. Based on these findings, further research is needed to better understand the long-term health effects of microplastics. In addition, efforts to reduce single-use plastics, improve waste management systems, and increase public education are essential to reduce exposure and prevent future health risks.
