Abstract

Scabies is a skin disease caused by infestation towards Sarcoptes scabiei, the condition locally known as "kudis", occurring easily in moist and densely populated vicinities. Kudis was classified into one of the top 10 most prevalent diseases of Ogan Ilir District in 2014. This research was conducted to analyse the relation between air quality and personal hygiene towards the incidences of scabies among students of boarding school Al Ittifaqiah, Indralaya. This research was an epidemiological method using cross-sectional analytic approach, conducted in March 2016. The population were all students of boarding school (1.859 individuals) and the samples selected were 200 respondents with proportional stratified random sampling. The measuring instruments were cardinal scabies physical diagnostic and questionnaire of demographic interviewing, and air quality observation. Obtained results were then analysed with Chi-Square, Logistic Regression Statistical Tests, and correspondence analysis. The result of scabies prevalence was 74.0%. The statistical test has shown that all free variables present relation towards the occurrence of scabies with the p-value < 0.05 except for the variables of temperature and humidity. Logistic Regression testing result yielded the free variable bearing the most dominant influence towards scabies incidence, which was the residential density (OR: 8.117; 95% CI: 3.176-20.745), ventilation (6.712; 1.323-34.066) and age (3.246; 1.555-6.775). The significant relationship of residential density, ventilation, and age towards the occurrence of scabies should be further investigated in order to prepare for elimination programs.

Abstract

Abstract Introduction : P. Vivax has been refered as pathological factor underlying increasing prevalences of haematological abnormality including anemia and thrombocytopenia. Through the day, exact mechanism of thrombocytopenia in malaria infection has yet come to a conclusion, several hypothesis are still in considered, phagocytosis and platelets aggregation remain the major disscussion topics. G-CSF, cytocine with elevated serum quantity in P. Vivax infections, were responsible in increasing phagoctytosis and conducting direct effect on platelets aggregation using adequate ADP. Increasing number of ADP in malaria cases were correlated with erythrocyte haemolitic, leading to increasing platelets aggregation. Although numerous hypothesis has been compelled, only a-few research publication has been made corresponding to G-CSF serum level on malaria P. Vivax infection and its correlations to thrombocytopenic events. Aim of study : To analyze the relations between G-CSF serum levels and parasite numbers towards platelets profile in infected malaria P. Vivax patients. Methods : Study design using Prospective analysis. Thirty six patients with single infection of Malaria Vivax in Puskesmas Sukamaju (Primary Heath Care Centre) and Puskesmas Kota Karang were assessed for G-CSF plasma levels, platelet counts, and MPV. Data analysis were conducted using Spearman correlation methods with SPSS. Results : Study results showing significant correlation between G-CSF serum levels towards Platelet conts (R = -0,397(p = 0,016)), without significant correlation between G-CSF and MPV value (p = 0,874) Conclusion : G-CSF serum levels were related with thrombocytopenia, with no correlation towards MPV. Keyword: G-CSF, P. vivax, Thrombocytopenia, MPV.

Abstract

This study examines the work participation of the elderly population (≥ 60 years) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Palu City. The sample was 80 respondents. The data analysis used probit regression. The results showed that only 36.26 percent of all respondents are still working. The COVID-19 pandemic changes variables affecting work participation of the elderly. The results of the analysis show that only two variables have a significant influence, namely age and health status of the elderly. As the elderly get older, the probability of the elderly participating in the labor market decreases. The elderly with a health condition have a greater probability of entering the labor market than the elderly with poor health conditions. Meanwhile, four variables did not have a significant influence during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as education, gender, status in the household and other sources of income (pension funds and remittance). Work participation is greatly affected by the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study aimed at examining the analysis of the soil quality index of dry land use on dry land in Blang Bintang District, Aceh Besar District. This research was conducted using a descriptive method based on the results of surveys and field observations as well as laboratory analysis. General biophysical conditions of the area and physical and chemical characteristics of the soil obtained from observations and indicators of soil quality through soil analysis in the laboratory. Soil sampling points were determined using the purposive sampling method, namely the points that have been determined on selected dry land in Blang Bintang District, Regency of Aceh Besar. The moderate soil quality index in the upland land use type is one of the reasons for the sampling of the Inceptisol soil type in the Blang Bintang sub-district, which has less fertile soil characteristics. Upland land use is the percentage of sand (57%) which is greater than the percentage of dust (36%) and clay (6%). This can be seen in the low content of C-organic (1.19), H2O, K-dd, P-available and N-total and high volume weight (1.34).

Abstract

Cocoa pod extract ((Theobroma cacao L.) has antioxidant and antimicrobial activity that has the potential as a natural food preservative. However, in its use the cocoa fruit skin extract has a disadvantage because the short shelf time and its application to food are limited, efforts are needed to prevent damage and extend shelf life, one of the efforts that can be done is by encapsulating the extract. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity and antioxidant encapsulation of cocoa peel extract, this study begins with the extraction of cocoa pods with ethanol solvent by comparing cocoa pods : solvent 1: 4 The skin of cacao cocoa fruit used is yellow harvested cocoa fruit, then chopped and dried to form flour. The sample is extracted by maceration with ethanol solvent Antioxidant test is done by DPPH method, while antibacterial test is carried out by the well diffusion method. This study used a completely randomized design method (CRD) with 5 treatments using a maltodextrin concentration of 20% (M1); 30% (M2); 40% (M3); 50% (M4) and 60% (M5). The results showed that the treatment gave the highest yield in the treatment of 60% maltodextrin concentration (M5), while the highest antioxidant activity was obtained in the treatment of 20% maltodextrin (M1) with IC50 75.98 µg / mL and the treatment with the lowest antioxidant activity was obtained at treatment of 60% maltodextrin concentration (M5) with IC50 value 114.89 µg / mL. While for the antimicrobial activity also obtained with the same results, namely treatment of 20% (M1) obtained a higher inhibition diameter compared to treatment at 30%; 40%; 50% and 60% for all types of bacteria. The inhibition diameter in the treatment of the concentration of maltodextrin 20% (M1) for E. coli bacteria is between 4.12 mm - 10.95 mm, Salmonella sp is 2.85 mm - 8 , 25 mm and for Staphylococcusaureus of 5.15 mm - 13.90 mm and the lowest inhibition diameter was obtained in the treatment of 60% maltodextrin concentration (M5) for E. coli bacteria of between 2.0 mm - 4.79 mm, Salmonella sp of 1.15 mm - 4.35 mm and for Staphylococcusaureusat 2.76 mm - 5.17 mm.This study concluded that the encapsulation of cocoa peel extract using 20% maltodextrin had the highest antioxidant and antimicrobial activity when compared with other treatments namely 30% concentration; 40%; 50% and 60% but for the treatment of 20% and 30% there is no difference. Ethanol extract of cocoa pods can be made in the form of encapsulates which are very likely to be used as natural preservatives.
