Abstract

As technology advances and 21st-century skills become increasingly essential, innovative learning methods are crucial for developing students' problem-solving skills (PSS). This research evaluates the PSS profile of high school students in physics by integrating augmented reality (AR) media with a problem-based learning (PBL) model, aligned with SDG 4 (quality education). Using a preliminary qualitative descriptive analysis, data were collected through PSS tests, interviews, and questionnaires. The results reveal that PSS remains underdeveloped: 95 students were categorized as low, 26 as medium, and only 1 as high. Despite understanding the problems, students struggle to provide answers and review solutions, largely due to a lack of independent problem-solving practice. Additionally, the use of technology in schools must be improved. Intensive practice and effective learning models are essential. The implementation of AR technology can enhance learning engagement and outcomes. This study underscores the importance of integrating technology to improve PSS and motivate students, supporting inclusive and quality education as outlined in SDG 4

Abstract

This study aims to identify students' learning styles, assess their science problem-solving abilities, and analyze these abilities in relation to their learning styles on the topics of vibration, wave, and sound. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected through tests, observations, and interviews. Instruments included a learning style questionnaire, problem-solving ability test, and interview guidelines. The findings reveal four learning styles among students—visual (25%), auditory (13%), kinesthetic (58%), and visual-kinesthetic (4%)—with kinesthetic being the most prevalent. However, 71% of students demonstrated low science problem-solving ability, with an average score of 52.9. Specifically, problem-solving performance was categorized as low across all four indicators: understanding the problem (36.5%), planning the solution (29.2%), implementing the solution (29.7%), and rechecking the answer (18.3%). Students with visual learning styles performed better in all problem-solving stages compared to their auditory and kinesthetic peers. This study highlights the need for tailored teaching strategies to improve problem-solving skills, particularly for students with auditory and kinesthetic learning styles, as no prior research has focused on the interplay between learning styles and problem-solving abilities in the context of vibration, wave, and sound materials.

Abstract

Some literature suggests that the low scientific literacy of pre-service teachers (PSTs) should be considered when designing teaching strategies. To address this issue, digital books with 3D animation, representing advanced developments in digital technology, can be integrated into an online Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. Consequently, this study aimed to test the effectiveness of the Digital Books, 3D animation, and PBL (DBAPBL) model in enhancing the scientific literacy of PSTs. The research method employed was quantitative, utilizing a quasi-experimental design. The sample comprised 67 pre-service biology teachers enrolled in the General Physics course. Data collection technique utilised pre- and post-test along with survey in the last teaching session. Then, the data was analysed descriptively and statistically using t-test. The findings revealed that the DBAPBL model led to PSTs achieving a science literacy score above 89.5 or in the high category. Statistical test results also indicated a significant difference between scientific literacy's pre- and post-test results, affirming the model's effectiveness. Another noteworthy finding suggests that PSTs have a tendency to respond positively to the DBPAPBL model. This research implies a pedagogical innovation in physics education and advocates for updating curriculum guidelines related to the DBAPBL model, thereby contributing to the improvement of Indonesia's PISA scores.

Abstract

In the digital era, the rapid development of science and technology provides convenience in teaching and learning; media is needed to provide practicality in supporting learning. Augmented Reality media is a practical solution as a learning medium in visualizing a material when the learning process, especially in physics, requires more visualization for the concepts displayed.  Objective: This research analyzes the practicality of augmented reality learning media in physics learning.  Methods: Descriptive research using the literature review method to find out, identify, assess, and interpret related to the augmented reality book practicality research obtained from various sources such as journals, books, and the internet. The literature review method analyzes, identifies, and provides interpretation and evaluation of some existing research that is relevant to the research topic.  Results: Through studies conducted using the literature review method, it can be found that: 1) Augmented reality in education has yet to be widely implemented and applied as a supporting medium for interactive education in schools. 2) The application of augmented reality is a practical solution for educators to support them in providing knowledge to students in addition to video conferencing. 3) The practicality of augmented reality books in physics learning is valid. 4) The use of augmented reality books in physics learning is considered to improve the quality of student learning.  Novelty:  Previous researchers have never done this research, which analyzes the practicality of augmented reality learning media in physics learning.

Abstract

Objective: The research aims to analyze the effectiveness of physics learning by applying technology or digital teaching materials significantly to improve students' critical thinking abilities. Knowledge regarding the need to use digital technology in educational institutions today can be used to implement innovative learning plans in the future. Method: The research was carried out using quantitative descriptive methods based on the data that had been obtained. Statistical tests in research involve the analysis of student response questionnaire results and literature reviews. Analysis of case study questionnaire responses on using technology in learning and the media needs of 92 students were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Results:  Based on the case study analysis obtained using EFA analysis, the need for learning using digital technology is very high. The response of students' motivation and interest in future learning received the maximum response that students need interactive learning with the help of engaging digital media, one of which is virtual simulation, which is relevant in improving critical thinking skills. Novelty: Application of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to analyze students' needs for digital media to improve critical thinking skills in physics learning. With support, the literature review shows a relevant relationship between the needs and challenges of developing technology in current digital learning media in providing an impact on alternative aspects of cost, time, space, and security to improve critical thinking skills. This research can be used to plan innovative learning in the future.

Abstract

Perkembangan pendidikan di Indonesia diikuti dengan tren pengintegrasian kearifan lokal dalam satuan pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melatih kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa melalui model pembelajaran contextual teaching and learning berbasis kearifan lokal Karapan Sapi Madura. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah one-shot case study dengan indikator berpikir kritis. Hasil penelitian ini menyajikan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa peserta melalui hasil posttest. Terdapat 12 peserta didik dalam kategori sangat kritis, 20 peserta didik dalam kategori kritis, dan 2 peserta didik dalam kategori kurang kritis. Harapannya, kearifan lokal di Indonesia terus dikembangkan dan diimplementasikan sebagai bahan ajar agar peserta didik semakin paham.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are crucial for preparing students to face complex real-world problems and are a key component of 21st-century learning. This study aims to identify the critical thinking skill profile of 5th-grade elementary school students on the respiratory system material. Critical thinking is an essential skill in 21st-century education, particularly for developing students' abilities in analysis, evaluation, and argumentation. However, it is often neglected in science education at the elementary level. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with survey techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations to assess students' critical thinking skills. The results indicate that among the 30 students tested, 15 were categorized as Fair, 12 as Low, and only 3 as Good. No student achieved the Very Good or Very Low category. The analysis of critical thinking indicators including analyzing, evaluating, composing arguments, and problem-solving reveals that while students possess a basic understanding, they struggle with more advanced critical thinking tasks. The study concludes that students' critical thinking skills remain limited to basic comprehension. This limitation is attributed to the dominance of rote learning methods and the lack of interactive and problem-solving-based instructional strategies. Future teaching approaches should prioritize active learning and the integration of critical thinking practices to enhance students' higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis profil kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik saat mempelajari materi perubahan wujud benda pada pembelajaran IPA Sekolah Dasar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pendahuluan yang bersifat deskriptif dan tidak melakukan uji hipotesis dengan sampel sebanyak 20 peserta didik SDN Selosari di Magetan, Jawa Timur. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes keterampilan berpikir kritis, angket respon peserta didik, dan wawancara guru yang hasil datanya akan dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian, menunjukkan bahwa 1) kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik berada pada kategori rendah dan sedang. Sebanyak 14 peserta didik berada pada kategori rendah, 6 peserta didik berada pada kategori sedang dan tidak ada peserta didik yang berada pada kategori tinggi; 2) Indikator keterampilan berpikir kritis yang paling rendah adalah evaluasi; 3) Guru masih menggunakan metode ceramah dan bahan ajar konvensional saat pembelajaran; 4) Diharapkan dengan adanya multimedia pembelajaran interaktif dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik pada pelajaran IPA khususnya materi perubahan wujud benda. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik masih rendah, sehingga perlu adanya peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik dengan mengimplementasikan multimedia pembelajaran interaktif, yaitu Jeopardy game.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis profil keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa kelas IV pada materi pelestarian sumber daya alam. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pendahuluan yang bersifat deskriptif tanpa mengajukan uji hipotesis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa dalam ketegori rendah dan sedang. Pembahasan hasil penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa rendahnya keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa disebabkan oleh pembelajaran yang diterapkan guru tidak dapat mendorong munculnya keterampilan berpikir kritis untuk memecahkan masalah, sehingga perlu penelitian lanjutan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa melalui pembelajaran berbasis masalah yaitu pembelajaran STEAM. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa tergolong rendah sehingga perlu adanya penggunaan modul ajar IPAS berbasis STEAM untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the science literacy competency profile of science education students in understanding thermodynamics concepts at the State University of Surabaya, with a specific focus on identifying competency levels and gender differences in science literacy achievement. Method: A quantitative descriptive research was conducted involving 35 students from Science Education Class B, selected through random sampling. Data collection was conducted using a science literacy test instrument adapted from the 2025 PISA framwork, consisting of 15 questions (10 multiple choice and 5 essay question) designed to measure three primary science compenties. Results: The analysis revealed that 51.42% of students achieved a proficient level, 28.58% reached an advanced level, and 20% were at a basic level. Students showed the highest competency in explaining scientific phenomena (74.4%), followed by constructing and evaluating scientific investigations (65.7%), and lowest in research and scientific information used for decision-making (60.6%). Female students exhibited slightly better performance, with a 4-point advantage over their male counterparts. Novelty: This study provides a detailed analysis of science literacy competencies in understanding thermodynamics among pre-service science teacher. It also incorporates the lates 2025 PISA framework and highlights gender-based performance differences. The findings provide valuable insights for developing targeted interventions in science teacher education programs, particularly in strengthening evidence-based decision-making skills and practical applications of thermodynamics concepts.
