Abstract

Clean water is a very vital need for all humans. The PAMSIMAS Program is a community-based drinking water and sanitation provision activity carried out on the basis of cooperation between the Central Government, Regional Government and the World Bank. Balangan Regency has approximately 56 units of PAMSIMAS facilities, especially in Lampihong District. Water at PAMSIMAS facilities with raw water sources using drilled wells will experience a decline in bacteriological quality in 2022 (does not meet quality standards). So this research aims to analyze the bacteriological quality of Sarana PAMSIMAS water and analyze factors related to the bacteriological quality of Sarana PAMSIMAS water in Lampihong District, Balangan Regency. This research was carried out in Lampihong District, Balangan Regency from October to December 2023. The research was carried out by analyzing bacteriological quality and directly observing risk factors related to bacteriological quality. The data analysis used in this research is logistic regression analysis using the backward method. The results of the bacteriological quality analysis show that in measuring the Total coliform in the morning samples there was 1 sample in Matang Lurus Village RT.02 which met the quality standards while at other locations the Total coliform content was higher. of 0, while in the samples taken in the afternoon there were 5 (five) samples that met the quality standards while the other 5 (samples) contained Total coliforms of more than 0. The results of measuring Escherichia coli in the morning samples contained 2 observation points that contained The Escherichia coli is equal to 0, while in the samples taken in the afternoon there were 3 samples containing Escherichia coli more than 0. Meanwhile, based on the results of logistic regression analysis using the backward method, it can be seen that factors that either partially or simultaneously influence Bacteriological quality of water at PAMSIMAS facilities that use drilled wells as a source of raw water, namely Pegurasan reservoir and water treatment.

Abstract

The coal mining industry in South Kalimantan can cause heavy metal waste pollution in the aquatic environment if not managed wisely. Cobalt and mercury are heavy metals that can cause disruption of glucose homeostasis which can lead to diabetes mellitus. The toxicity of cobalt and mercury occurs as a result of interactions with proteins associated with diabetes mellitus, namely insulin receptors, PPARγ, protein kinase b and c-reactive protein. This study aims to determine the interaction of heavy metals cobalt and mercury on insulin receptors, PPARγ, protein kinase b and c-reactive protein with PDB ID: 2HR7, 1PRG, 3E87, 1GNH taken from the Protein Data Bank and using the molecular docking website MIB2: Metal Ion-Binding site prediction and modeling server. Docking results were visualized using the Chimera ver 1.16 application. Based on the docking results, it was found that the interaction between cobalt and mercury with insulin receptors, PPARγ, protein kinase b and c-reactive protein. Cobalt has the highest potential to bind to insulin receptors. While mercury has the highest potential to bind to protein kinase b. Mercury binds more strongly to insulin receptors, PPARγ, protein kinase b and c-reactive protein than cobalt. This interaction causes changes in protein conformation that have the potential to inactivate protein function.

Abstract

Urban areas worldwide grapple with environmental challenges, notably air pollution. DKI Jakarta, Indonesia's capital city, is emblematic of this struggle, where rapid urbanization contributes to increased pollutants. This study employed the CatBoost machine learning algorithm, known for its resistance to overfitting and capability to handle missing data, to predict urban air quality based on pollutant levels from 2010 to 2021. The dataset, sourced from Jakarta's air quality monitoring stations, includes pollutants such as PM10, SO2, CO, O3, and NO2. After preprocessing, we used 80% of the data for training and 20% for testing. The model displayed high accuracy (0.9781), precision (0.9722), and recall (0.9728). The feature importance chart revealed O3 (Ozone) as the top influencer of air quality predictions, followed by PM10. Our findings highlight the dominant pollutants affecting urban air quality in Jakarta, Indonesia and emphasizing the need for targeted strategies to reduce their concentrations and ensure a cleaner and healthier urban environment.

Abstract

Geochemical analysis is a critical tool in geothermal exploration, providing valuable insights into reservoir characteristics. However, obtaining accurate and reliable geochemical data requires rigorous validation techniques. This review examines key factors affecting the accuracy of geochemical data and discusses best practices for ensuring quality. Proper sampling methods, including selection of representative locations, use of appropriate equipment, and adherence to robust protocols for sample collection, filtration, preservation, and storage, are essential for maintaining integrity. Analytical techniques must be carefully selected, with regular calibration and standardization of instruments using certified reference materials. Implementing comprehensive quality assurance and quality control procedures, such as analyzing blanks, duplicates, and spike samples, helps monitor precision and accuracy. Data interpretation should consider the complexities of the geological and hydrological settings, integrating multiple lines of evidence. By following established guidelines and continuously updating methods based on emerging technologies and inter-laboratory comparisons, geothermal teams can optimize the reliability of their geochemical data. Accurate and precise geochemical information, when combined with geological, geophysical, and hydrological data, enables informed decision-making and enhances the success of geothermal projects. As geothermal energy gains importance in the transition to sustainable resources, ensuring the accuracy of geochemical analysis will be crucial for effective exploration and development.

Abstract

Diarrhea is a common disease in the community and can be fatal if treatment is delayed. Banjar District has recorded the highest prevalence of diarrhea in South Kalimantan for the past few years, making it one of the causes of death in toddlers. This study aims to conduct spatial analysis using Moran's I index and local indicators of spatial association (LISA). Diarrhea case predictions are made using the multiplicative decomposition time series method. The data used in this study are diarrhea case data from 20 sub-districts in Banjar District during the period 2016-2022. Although no global autocorrelation was found in Banjar District, there were two sub-districts that showed local autocorrelation. The prediction results show a decreasing trend in diarrhea cases in most sub-districts. Health interventions can be focused on areas with high risk, such as hotspot areas and areas predicted not to experience a decrease in diarrhea cases.

Abstract

Post-mined reclamation is an essential phase in coal mining operations, ensuring that the ex-mining area can function again according to its intended purpose in the future. This study aimed to elucidate the differences in planting years of post-mined reclamation at a coal mine in the Paringin area, South Kalimantan, Indonesia, and compared them to undisturbed areas for the years 2003 and 2023. NDVI was used for land cover analysis based on the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource Regulation, and the ultimate criterion for 100% success in post-mined reclamation is vegetation canopy coverage. The NDVI results showed an improvement in NDVI values for the post-mined reclamation area from 2003 to 2023, indicating an improvement in land cover due to the revegetation process. In 2023, the NDVI results of the post-mined reclamation for eight and twenty years of tree planting showed NDVI values of 0.6-0.7 (moderate vegetation). However, the results of field observations of the twenty-year post-mined reclamation tree condition indicate the non-survival of fast-growing tree species, such as Albizia chinensis. The composition of fast-growing and local tree species, with a minimum proportion of 60:40, and systematic tree distribution across the post-mined reclamation area are required to maintain canopy coverage of the post-mined reclamation area in the long term. Fast-growing tree species, as pioneers, have short to medium life periods. Therefore, the ultimate criterion for 100% success in post-mined reclamation for canopy coverage should be based on local tree species, serving as the basis for releasing the reclamation bond.
