Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the difficulties learning by students in the modified free inquiry learning strategy of Molecular Biology and the causes of these difficulties. The method used is descriptive with a questionnaire technique. Respondents are 51 Biology Education students who contracted the Molecular Biology course in Academic Year 2017/2018 at one of the education institution in Kota Pekanbaru. The stages in the modified free inquiry strategy that are carried out consist of steps: 1) orienting students to the topics discussed by giving direct questions, 2) students make questions as the formulation of the problem, 3) proposing hypotheses, 4) collecting data and information for testing hypotheses, 5) communicating findings, and 6) concluding. Topics covered were DNA isolation, agarose gel electrophoresis, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and in the lectures were complemented by wet and virtual laboratory activities. Research instruments in the form of a closed questionnaire with answer choices 'yes' and 'no'. Data analyzed are presented in the form of percentage figures. The results of data analysis showed that: (1) Students who experienced difficulty in learning Molecular Biology with a modified free inquiry strategy were 45.10% and those who did not experience difficulties were 54.90%; (2) The causes of difficulties are limited time (78.26%), not finding adequate learning resource materials (39.13%), unable to understand the learning resource materials found (39.13%), unable looking for adequate learning resource materials (21.74%), and not interested in the modified free inquiry strategy (17.39%); and (3) most students agree to apply the modified free inquiry strategy to other biology courses. The implication of the research is the modified free inquiry strategy can be applied in biology learning at the university level.

Abstract

AbstractMastery of the concept of science which is still low in the schools is the joint work of practitioners of science education. Learning science should be based on the nature of science itself that is the process of investigating the nature around systematically, but it has not been done by the school because most of the learning is still in the form of direct transfer from teachers to students. Learning ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry) is seen to facilitate students to understand the concept of science as well. Research on the implementation of the ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry) to improve the mastery of concepts is done in junior high school students of class VII in one of the Junior High School in Garut district, with 66 students who were divided into two classes namely experimental class that implemented ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry) and the control class that used guided inquiry learning. The results showed Application Inquiry Driven Argument learning model can significantly improve students' mastery of concepts than learning with guided inquiry. The cognitive aspect which aspect is the most improved is C2 (understand) both in the classroom that uses the learning Argument Driven Inquiry as well as in the classroom using learning Inquiry guided, and mastery of concepts most improved is in matter convection either in class that used the learning Argument Driven Inquiry as well as in the classroom which used guided Inquiry learning. AbstrakPenguasaan konsep IPA yang masih rendah di sekolah-sekolah merupakan pekerjaan bersama dari praktisi pendidikan IPA. Pembelajaran IPA seharusnya dilakukan berdasarkan hakikat IPA itu sendiri yakni proses penyelidikan terhadap alam sekitar secara sistematis, namun hal ini belum banyak dilakukan oleh sekolah karena pembelajaran sebagian besar masih berupa transfer langsung dari guru pada siswa. Pembelajaran ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry) dipandang dapat memfasilitasi siswa untuk memahami konsep IPA secara baik. Penelitian mengenai implementasi ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry) dalam meningkatkan penguasaan konsep dilakukan pada siswa SMP kelas VII di salah satu SMP Negeri di kabupaten Garut terhadap 66 siswa yang dibagi ke dalam dua kelas yakni kelas eksperimen yang menerapkan ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry) dan kelas kontrol yang menggunakan pembelajaran inquiry terbimbing. Hasil penelitian menunjukan Penerapan model pembelajaran Argument Driven Inquiry secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa dibandingkan pembelajaran dengan inquiry terbimbing. Aspek kognitif yang paling meningkat adalah aspek C2 (memahami) baik di kelas yang menggunakan pembelajaran Argument Driven Inquiry maupun di kelas yang menggunakan pembelajaran Inquiry terbimbing dan penguasaan konsep yang paling meningkat adalah pada materi konveksi baik di kelas yang menggunakan pembelajaran Argument Driven Inquiry maupun di kelas yang menggunakan pembelajaran Inquiry terbimbing.Permalink/DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15408/es.v7i2.1578

Abstract

Kegiatan refleksi diri dapat membantu dan memfasilitasi guru untuk meningkatkan kualitas kegiatan pembelajaran.  Selain itu, masukan yang diperoleh oleh guru selama melakukan refleksi diri dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan pedagogi konten guru. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji penggunaan rekaman video sebagai alat efektif praktik reflektif untuk guru. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari empat guru biologi yang telah terlibat dalam kegiatan lesson study di Kabupaten Sumedang, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Subjek penelitian dipilih berdasarkan kesamaan materi pembelajaran yang didokumentasikan pada kegiatan open lesson, yaitu pada materi sistem pernapasan manusia. Pada penelitian ini, subjek penelitian terlibat dalam dua kegiatan. Pertama, para peserta sebagai subjek penelitian melakukan analisis refleksi diri dari video pembelajaran mereka sendiri. Kedua, para peserta melakukan analisis refleksi diri menggunakan video pembelajaran dari guru lain. Data dianalisis dengan kategorisasi jawaban refleksi diri kemudian diikuti dengan kegiatan wawancara. Hasil wawancara kemudian ditranskrip untuk klarifikasi dengan hasil jawaban refleksi diri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa melakukan analisis diri dengan menggunakan rekaman video menjadikan para guru menyadari kelebihan dan kekurangan sesi pembelajaran yang mereka lakukan dan memberikan ide-ide baru untuk perbaikan di masa mendatang.

Abstract

Textbooks function as one the useful teaching materials in the curriculum. The purpose of the study was to identify the content of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in science textbooks for grade 7 junior high school semester 2 particularly the subject of living things and their environment consisting of socio-cultural, environmental, and economic aspects that met the textbook evaluation criteria. Data were collected by analyzing seven junior high school textbooks used in Jambi. The research instrument is a text analysis check sheet based on ESD indicators containing socio-cultural, environmental, and economic perspectives. The study discovered that teachers learn from textbooks that promote an ESD viewpoint on each subject that takes into account socio-cultural, environmental, and economic factors. The examination of the seven teaching resources revealed that the integration of the information in the teaching resources from the ESD perspective has to be revised to address the growing environmental issues. The second semester of the 2013 curriculum saw the introduction of the ESD perspective on scientific teaching materials in the form of textbooks for the 7th grade SMP. These textbooks included elements of ESD but still kept them distinct from one another. The environmental dimension is the most prominent feature of ESD in the scientific textbooks for the second semester of the 7th- grade curriculum in 2013.

Abstract

Education has an important role in changing a person's life. However, in learning biology, difficulties often arise for students because of its complexity. The lack of innovation and the use of technology by teachers in biology lessons results in students being less trained in critical thinking and solving everyday problems. Low problem-solving ability can have an impact on the quality of human resources. Therefore, there is a need for innovative learning models to make learning more meaningful. This study aims to examine the innovation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning models using Microsoft Teams assisted by fishbone diagrams applied to environmental pollution material. Microsoft Teams was chosen because it can streamline learning time in class and fishbone diagrams can be useful to make it easier for students to formulate and solve problems. The research method used is a qualitative approach through literature study. The results of descriptive analysis from various reliable sources, such as journals and theses, provide an understanding of developing critical thinking skills and solving students' environmental pollution issues can be done through the PBL model innovation using Microsoft Teams assisted by fishbone diagrams. This research is expected to provide insight for educators in choosing the right learning model. Thus, this research contributes to the development of more effective education and prepares students to become quality human resources in the future.

Abstract

Pendidikan konservasi memiliki relevansi untuk diimplementasikan dalam kurikulum pendidika tinggi di Indonesia, hal ini tidak terlepas dari posisi Indonesia yang termasuk dalam jajaran negara megabiodiversity dan memiliki sejumlah hotspot biodiversity. Laju loss biodiversity Indonesia yang sangat tinggi mengharuskan segera mendapatkan penanganan melalui kegiatan konservasi dan membangun kesadaran secara kolektif melalui pendidikan biodiversitas. Pendidikan biodiversitas dapat dilakukan melalui jalur pendidikan formal dan informal. Pada pendidikan formal di Universitas dilakukan melalui mata kuliah seperti Biologi Konservasi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan tujuan memperoleh data empirik pengembangan program perkuliahan biologi konservasi. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui instrumen angket, wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumen. Data empirik yang diperoleh melalui kegiatan Preliminary reseach ini kemudian dianalisis dan ditafsirkan sesuai temuan penelitian. Hasil penelitian pendahuluan menemukan bahwa perkuliahan belum mengarahkan pada peningkatan literasi biodiversitas sebagai pondasi literasi konservasi pada mahasiswa. Hasil studi analisis kebutuhan perkuliahan biologi konservasi berbasis CSP memerlukan beberapa perangkat pendukung seperti RPS berbasis CSP, bahan ajar/buku/modul, toolkit, aplikasi OCS, pelatihan kegiatan CSP, pelatihan riset biodiversitas dan pelatihan keterampilan konservasi biodiversitas.

Abstract

Science Process Skills are abilities that students must possess because they are applicable not only to science learning but also to daily life. To be familiar with scientific method activities, students must have direct experience in order to be trained in Science Process Skills. This study aims to enhance students' Science Process Skills through hybrid android interface mode practicum learning. The research data was collected using description questions previously validated by subject matter experts. This study conducted quasi-experiments using the Nonquivalent (pretest-posttest) Control Group Design method. The research participants included control and experimental groups. The research results show an increase in Science Process Skills in the experiment class as evidenced by the achievement of aspects of observation 71.25%, interpretation 78.25%, classification 86.12%, prediction 84.45%, conducting experiments or investigations 83.34%, communicating 63.33%, hypothesizing 79.63%, applying concepts 88.34%, and asking questions 82.43%. It shows that the practicum mode of the hybrid Android interface can develop Science Process Skills

Abstract

School internships typically adhere to a standard format, employing basic tools for educational purposes. Among these, the greenhouse effect modelling laboratory, traditionally conducted under direct sunlight, faces challenges due to the variability introduced by cloud cover. This variability limits the ability to study the influence of light wavelength on the greenhouse effect, an aspect not accounted for when using sunlight alone. This research aims to explore the impact of light wavelength on temperature changes within greenhouse effect models. In our methodology, we employed an experimental setup that simulated the greenhouse effect using artificial light sources of varying wavelengths: red (641 nm), orange (592 nm), yellow (586 nm), green (536 nm), and blue (474 nm). The experiment involved monitoring the temperature increase within the model greenhouse under each light condition, thereby isolating the effect of wavelength from other environmental variables. The results revealed a direct correlation between light wavelength and the rate of temperature increase in the greenhouse model. Specifically, longer wavelengths were associated with a quicker rise in temperature, highlighting the significant role of wavelength in the greenhouse effect's efficiency. This study underscores the necessity of incorporating wavelength considerations into greenhouse effect models, particularly in educational settings. By integrating such experiments into school curricula, students can gain a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the greenhouse effect, moving beyond the limitations of traditional sunlight-based experiments.

Abstract

This article was to find out the innovation of students by using combination of Conventional Method and PBL Method. Based on the result of Classroom Action Research found that there was a differences between pre-test, post-test whether Cycle I or Cycle II. Based on the result, the writer concluded that the result of this research was the result of post-test in Cycle I was lower than post-test in Cycle II with the combination of Conventional Method and PBL Method. Abstrak. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui inovasi siswa dengan menggunakan kombinasi Metode Konvensional dan Metode PBL. Berdasarkan hasil Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ditemukan bahwa ada perbedaan antara pre-test, post-test apakah Siklus I atau Siklus II. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa hasil dari penelitian ini adalah hasil posttest siklus I lebih rendah dari posttest siklus II kombinasi metode konvensional dan metode PBL.

Abstract

Pada abad ke-21 ini, semua manusia akan menghadapi banyak tantangan global sehingga perlu mempersiapkan diri agar memiliki sejumlah keterampilan, pengajaran biologi tidak berubah secara substansial sejak tahun 1980an, meskipun ilmu pengetahuan telah berubah dengan pesat dimana isu pengajaran bioteknologi yang efektif masih harus diberikan. Tujuan review ini untuk mengetahui teknologi Pendidikan yang telah digunakan pada pembelajaran bioteknologi dengan metode penelitian berupa PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) yang merupakan pengkutipan pada artikel terindeks scopus yang terbit pada tahun 2017-2023 guna untuk mendata teknologi Pendidikan yang telah digunakan untuk pengajaran bioteknologi. Dalam Literature review ini terdapat 45% penggunaan secara digital, dan 11% menggunakan analog yang dimana menunjukan adanya kemajuan dalam pengajaran bioteknologi yang menggunakan media digital sebagai alat untuk mendukung proses belajar mengajar. Penggunaan teknologi pengajaran untuk belajar bioteknologi menunjukkan adanya kualitas yang sangat mempengaruhi hasil belajar siswa. Multimedia dalam website atau aplikasi pembelajaran interaktif yang menggunakan unsur gambar (visual) dan unsur suara pengiring (audio). Unsur-unsur di atas kemungkinan besar akan mempengaruhi penguasaan konsep siswa secara signifikan di kelas eksperimen dengan kehadiran animasi dalam media juga meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dan meningkatkan pembelajaran.
