Abstract

Higher education plays a strategic role in shaping character and providing learning experiences to acquire knowledge through effective learning by developing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The implementation of the merdeka belajar-kampus merdeka (MBKM) curriculum requires integration with local wisdom values to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) through the development of 8 key competencies for sustainability. This research aims to analyze the implementation of environmental science lectures and measure the level of achievement of the 8 key competencies for sustainability among science education students in West Papua. Using a mixed methods approach, the research involves 30 seventh-semester students and one lecturer who teaches the course. Data collection methods include document studies, field observations, competency measurement using standardized instruments, and semi-structured interviews. Researchers analyze the data descriptively, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Analysis shows variations in the achievement of sustainability competencies, with the highest value in systems thinking competency (70.95) and the lowest in anticipatory competency (53.45). A gap exists in the implementation of learning, which does not optimally integrate local wisdom and the development of sustainability competencies. Therefore, developing an integrated curriculum considering the local context of West Papua, improving teacher capacity, and strengthening strategic partnerships are necessary to enhance the effectiveness of learning in developing the sustainability competencies of Science Education students

Abstract

The Effect of Think Talk Write (TTW) Strategy Toward Students Announcement Writing Skill at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 9 Pandeglang in Academic Years 2025/2026. The study was initiated by observing a persistent gap in the writing of announcements by eleventh-grade students at SMAN 9 Pandeglang. This deficiency suggests a critical need for pedagogical interventions to address challenges in constructing clear, informative, and structurally sound announcement texts, thereby enhancing overall communicative competence. The primary objective of this quantitative study was to empirically evaluate the impact of implementing the Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy on improving students' announcement-writing skills. Using a robust quasi-experimental design, the study recruited a carefully selected sample of 64 eleventh-grade students. This sample was strategically divided into an experimental group (32 students) and a control group (32 students) to facilitate direct comparison. Writing proficiency was systematically assessed through pre-test and post-test evaluations using a standardized writing test instrument. Data analysis, conducted using an independent t-test in SPSS version 22, revealed a statistically significant difference in performance. Specifically, the experimental group, which received the TTW strategy intervention, achieved a substantially higher mean post-test score (80.94) compared to the control group (65.75), with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Based on these compelling findings, it is conclusively determined that the Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy is a highly effective pedagogical tool for significantly enhancing students’ writing skills in announcements.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) integrated with SDG point 6 on students’ sustainability literacy related to water pollution. A quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group pretest–posttest design was employed involving two tenth-grade classes at a senior high school in Garut, selected through convenience sampling. The research instrument consisted of 15 essay questions measuring three aspects of sustainability literacy: knowledge, skills, and mindset. The instrument was validated by experts and demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.92). Data were analyzed through normality and homogeneity tests followed by an Independent Samples T-test. The results indicated that there was no statistically significant difference in total post-test scores between the experimental class using SDG-integrated PBL and the control class using discovery learning (two-tailed Sig. = 0.07). However, the experimental class showed greater mean improvements, particularly in the skills and mindset aspects, compared to the control class. In conclusion, PBL integrated with SDG 6 shows a tendency to enhance students’ sustainability literacy, especially in terms of skills and mindset, although its overall effect was not statistically significant. The findings imply the need for better alignment between assessment instruments and learning contexts, student habituation to PBL, longer intervention periods, and further analyses to more sensitively evaluate instructional effectiveness.

Abstract

Electrolysis is a fundamental concept in electrochemistry, yet its real-world applications are often overlooked in classroom settings. This study aims to design and develop a rainwater electrolysis practicum tool that contextualizes electrochemical concepts, enabling students to directly observe chemical processes related to environmental issues such as acid rain. An experimental method was conducted by varying the applied potential difference (4, 6, 8, and 10 V) and measuring pH changes in rainwater. The apparatus was designed and fabricated by the authors, adapting established electrolysis principles into a hands-on practicum tool. The results indicate that increasing potential difference influences localized pH shifts, where the cathode environment becomes more basic while the anode becomes more acidic, visualizing ion distribution during electrolysis. Student responses, collected through questionnaires, revealed high levels of motivation, ease of use, attractiveness, and perceived usefulness of the practicum product. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the practicum in enhancing students' engagement and understanding of electrochemistry concepts. In conclusion, the rainwater electrolysis practicum developed in this study bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, fostering a contextualized learning experience that aligns with the objectives of science education while also embedding environmental relevance.
