Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the ability of mathematical communication at students with a high, medium, and low IQ in grade XI MIA of State Senior High School 6 Surakarta in answering math questions. The subjects were 6 students that two students with high IQ, 2 students with medium IQ, and 2 students with low IQ. Techniques of data collection used documents and archives, a written test and an interview. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of research showed that: (1) students with high IQ: in the mathematical written communication skills, students were able to create situations and proper solutions using the diagram, the students were also able to translate the ideas contained in the diagram with their own words in the form of detailed and structured information, and able to express ideas and opinions with good reason. In the mathematical verbal communication skills, the students were able to provide some information and the situation in the form of their own language, students were also able to express the right opinions to answer and respond questions in the form of a convincing argument and be able to make correct conclusions with emphatic pronunciation; (2) students with medium IQ: in the mathematical written communication skills, students were able to create situations and proper solutions to depict diagrams and adding several full details, students were also able to translate the ideas contained in the diagram with their own words which arranged in structured by providing some information, ideas and information, but students gave a brief opinion in giving reasons about diagram. In the mathematical verbal communication skills, the students were able to provide some information and situation into their own language forms in detail, complete, and structured, students were also able to give an opinion clearly and convincingly, in addition the student also gave some suggestions, and able to respond to questions in the form convincing argument and students were able to make the right conclusions but short explicitly; (3) students with medium IQ: in the mathematical written communication skills, students were able to create situations and appropriate solutions to describe the diagram and added some description, students were also able to translate the information contained in the diagram with their own sentences with ideas and information relating to the matter. In the mathematical verbal communication skills, students were able to give some brief information in the form of their own language, students were able to express opinions and suggestions but there is still less precise answer, the student was not able to properly respond to questions when giving an answer, but the students were able to make some conclusions short with a convincing argument. Keywords: Mathematical Communication, Math Questions, Intelligence Quotient

Abstract

This research aims at improving mathematical reasoning skills through the implementation of Realistic Mathematics Education approach. This is a two-cycles Classroom Action Research (CAR). Each cycle consists of three meetings. There are four stages in every meeting that are planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this research is 30 students of the fifth grade of SD Negeri Tunggulsari 1 Surakarta, academic year 2019/2020. Observation, interview, tests, and documentation are used as the data collection technique. Triangulation is used to check the validity of this research. The data are analyzed using Miles- Huberman interactive analysis model. The first cycle began with the first learning resulting in increased 47% with 72,00 of average, second learning was increased 3% with 74,00 of average and the third of learning was increased 10% with 74,00 of average. This research continued with second cycle with percentage of students' classical mastery 73% with 82,00 of average in first learning, second learning has percentage of students' classical mastery 77% with 82,00 of  average and the last learning has percentage of students' classical mastery 83% with 87,00 of average. Those results indicate that the mathematical reasoning skill of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Tunggulsari 1 Surakarta academic year 2019/2020 can be improved by the implementation of Realistic Mathematics Education approach.

Abstract

The aims from this research are to describe the mistake of solving kesebangunan problems in terms of the self confidence and mathematics anxiety of junior high school students. This type of this research is qualitative descriptive. The main data of  this research are test results, self-confidence questionnaires results, mathematics anxiety questionnaires results and interviews results. The subject  of this research are the students who have low, medium and high self-confidence with low, medium and high mathematics anxiety. The student will be given a test to find out the mistakes. Interviews were conducted to students who made the most mistakes. The results of this research indicated that students who have low, medium or high self-confidence with low, medium or high math anxiety make a mistake of concept at the stage of formulating strategies to solve problems. The mistake of strategy that many students made were removing unit data in the arithmetic operation process at the stage of implementing the planned strategy. The other mistakes made were a mistake of strategy in the stage of carry out the planned strategy and a mistake of counting operations in the stage of re-examination occurred in each group.

Abstract

Literacy is one of the elements assessed in PISA. The research objective was to determine the mathematics literacy skills of elementary school teachers and the development of mathematics literacy in primary schools. This research activity consists of 3 stages, namely the pre-training stage, the implementation stage and the program evaluation stage. Activities carried out in the pre-training stage are need analysis and preparing training instruments. The program implementation activities consist of 3 stages, namely 1) Expert explanation on mathematical literacy 2) Planning and compilation of habituation and learning that can develop mathematical literacy 3) Providing feedback on the development of mathematical literacy through the peer-correction stage. Activities carried out in program evaluation include mentoring the application of habituation and learning that can develop elementary school students' mathematical literacy. Based on the results of statistical tests, it is concluded that the Mathematical Literacy Development Workshop on the Aspects of Habit and Learning for Elementary School Teachers can improve the understanding of workshop participants. The understanding of elementary school teachers in Wonogiri district has increased compared to before the training activities were implemented. This means that community service activities are useful for elementary school teachers in Wonogiri district. These results are also with the results of interviews and teacher assessment questionnaires that the Mathematical Literacy Development Workshop on the Aspects of Habitual and Learning for Elementary School Teachers is very useful for elementary school teachers in improving their pedagogical abilities.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the influences of Problem Based Learning and learning interest at improving the cognitive learning outcomes in social science of fourth-grade elementary school students. This study is a quasi-experiment study with pre-test and post-test control group design. The sample collection is taken with stratified cluster random sampling technique. The sample of this study is 109 fourth-grade elementary school students, consisted of 50 students from experiment group and 59 students from control group. The students from experiment group are given the application of Problem Based Learning, while the students in control group are given the application of Direct Instruction. The data collection is carried by using the instruments of social science learning outcomes test and social science learning interest questionnaire. The validity of test and questionnaire instruments is carried by expert judgement. The difficulty level, distinguishing power, and reliability of test instrument is tested by using ITEMAN application. The internal consistency and reliability of questionnaire instrument is tested by using SPSS application. The data is analysed by using two-way anova. The outcomes of the study show that PBL and learning interest contribute significant impact towards social science learning outcomes of elementary school students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine which one gives better mathematics achievement, students who are taught by learning cooperative model Think Talk Write (TTW), Numbered Heads Together (NHT) or Direct learning model in the topic of Function. The kind of this research is  a quasi-quantitative experimental method. The population is the eighth grade of junior high school students at Surakarta in academic year of 2016/ 2017. The sampling technique were used stratifield cluster random sampling. The data collecting used documentation method and achievement test. The try out of test included difficulty level, discrimination index and reliability index. The data was analyzed using a one-way analysis of variance with unbalanced cells following the normality test with Liliefors method and homogeneity test with Barlett method. Both experimental and control classes should have equal earlier mathematics achievement. Based on result of the research, it can be concluded that students who are taught by TTW and NHT have better mathematics achievement than Direct learning but students who are taught by TTW have equal mathematics achievement with NHT. Keywords : Cooperative, TTW, NHT.
