Abstract

Epilepsy is a brain disorder characterized by a tendency to induce a continuous epileptic recurrence and neurobiological, cognitive, psychological, as well as social consequences. Epilepsy seizures are a series of signs and/or symptoms caused by abnormal neuronal activities in the brain. The purpose of this study was to prove the benefits of applying self- and family-oriented educational management to clinical outcomes, self-management, and impact of epilepsy on family, patient’s quality of life, family support, and the role of doctors and family of the epilepsy patient. This is an experimental research using two groups pre and posttest design. The subjects were 80 epilepsy patients ranging from 18 to 70 years of age. All subjects had never had any epilepsy surgery. The subjects were randomly assigned to treatment and control groups; 40 subjects in the treatment group received treatment and self- as well as family-oriented education while the other 40 subjects in the control group received treatment only. Family-oriented education was conducted using written materials on pathophysiology and epilepsy management, psychological effects of epilepsy, and information about the epilepsy community. All of the subjects answered the questionnaires prior to and 3 months after treatment. The questionnaires include information on seizure frequency and seizure-free status, medication adherence, self-management, epilepsy impact on patient and family, and quality of life. The results show that self- and family-oriented education can improve medication adherence, self-management, and family roles. Family-oriented education reduces the frequency of seizures as well as the impact of epilepsy on patients and families. It was concluded that self- and family-oriented education had a positive effect on medical management, clinical outcomes, self-management, and the quality of life of patients with epilepsy.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze factors that influence the awareness in student entrepreneurship. The research took the form of a survey of 140 final-year students at the Indonesia Tourism Economics College (STIEPARI) Semarang who were or had taken an internship program. The benefits of Mobile Learning were measured by students' perceptions in gaining knowledge, experience, and social motivation about entrepreneurship. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results of this study generally show that in entrepreneurship education through an apprenticeship program, the perception about the benefits of M-Learning and that of entrepreneurship feasibility have a significant effect on the interest in entrepreneurship both directly and through perception of entrepreneurial desires. The total influence of entrepreneurship education variables through the apprenticeship program shows that the path coefficient is greater than the perception variable on benefits so that M-Learning only functions as a support for entrepreneurship education in an internship program to increase students' entrepreneurial interest. The results of this study have implications for the development of electronic learning through M-Learning to support entrepreneurial learning. M-Learning, for example, has the potential to provide independent learning, opportunities for sharing knowledge, problem solving-based experiences, and entrepreneurial motivational facilities, solving the problem of busy time mentors in the industrial environment, and learning that is not limited to space and time.

Abstract

Training management of learning for high school chemistry teachers in Semarang has not been implemented properly. It can be seen from the need analysis of chemistry teachers that have not been managed well. Pedagogical competence of teachers is not optimal, so that it is necessary for developing a better training management model. This study aims to analyze the factual model, design the hypothetical model, and set the final model of training management for high school chemistry teachers in Semarang, along with the effectiveness test. The research method used was research and development method. The results showed that in the factual model, the need analysis of training was not done, so the relevance was low and the learning process was less attractive and meaningful. Moreover, the control was also not carried out effectively so it could not assess the reaction and the impact of the training. Based on that factual model, the researcher arranged hypothetical model and then compiled the final model that is the development of training management model of Chemo-entrepreneurship (CEP) integrated soft skill learning for high school chemistry teachers in Semarang. The training management model includes three stages: (1) the planning stage; (2)the implementation stage; and (3)the control stage. The Training Management Model of Soft Chemo-Entrepreneurship Integrated Soft Skill Learning (MPPSS-CEP model) has high level of effectiveness and it is easy to be implemented for high school chemistry teachers.

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to find out a final model of integrated character education curriculum management (henceforth PKPKI) that is suitable to be implemented at the Educational Institution of Education personnel (henceforth LPTK). This study was designed according to Borg and Gall’s (1989) Research and Development as it was adopted by Sugiyono (2010). The research procedures basically consisted of the introductory, developmental, and evaluative phases. The data sources were informants from the PPKn study program of three institutions, i.e. UPGRIS, IVETS, and UNDARIS. Data were drawn from the respondents through interview, observation, documentary review, and focus group discussion (FGD). The validity of the data was viewed from the perspective of credibility test by means of data source, data collection technique and member check triangulation, The data were then processed using interaction analysis. The results of this study show that the final PKPKI model is feasible to be implemented at the Pancasila and Civics Education (henceforth PPKn) Study Program of LPTK-s.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a financial management model for school-based 9-year basic education learning obligatory in the District of Kudus, Central Java. This study employed a Research and Development approach, in which the actual model obtained from the preliminary study was developed into a model design which was appropriate with the ideal condition in the District. Then, the final model of financial management for school-based 9-year basic education was determined through a focused group discussion attended by practitioners as well as experts in the related field. The results of the data analysis show that the financial model of basic education which had been implemented so far was not appropriate any longer given that the financial aid provided by the central government along with the provincial as well as district government on the basis of the number of students without taking into account the differential factors was not in line with the real needs of the schools. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a financial model of the basic education by considering achievement as the standard measure, in which the School Operational Aid (BOS) from the central and provincial government remains based on the number of students annually, while the subsidy from the residential government is still capable of covering the lack of the whole school needs under the conditions that the school is obliged to (1) arrange the School Budget and Activity Plan (RKAS) on the basis of EDS, (2) arrange the prioritized programs on the basis of the school vision and mission by (3) considering the school status, 4) average scores of the National Examinations (UN) and other achievements. The theoretical implication is that the model resulted from this study confirms Grubb, Rebbeca Allen’s theory that the students’ achievement is determined by fund; it also confirms Psacaropoulos that quality education requires high investment and that this development model is the realization of financial management functions as they were proposed by Harold Thomas Jones, and Warsono as well as the financial management theory proposed by Blocher.

Abstract

As a way to achieve a high-quality Guidance and Counseling (GC) session, there is a need to apply soft skills in GC service interactions. However, many counselors have yet to optimally develop and implement proper soft skills in GC service sessions. Therefore, a model for developing soft skills training management oriented toward service quality is required for counselors. This is particularly necessary because a meaningful relationship between counselors and students can be built through having proficient soft skills, such as appearance, verbal communication skills, work ethics, analytical abilities, self-management, and others. The purpose of this study is to obtain ways to overcome hindrances in soft skill training programs, so similar service quality improvement programs for counselors could be carried out well. This study proposes a model for developing soft skills training management oriented toward service quality for counselors. Training management includes planning, organizing, implementatoin, monitoring and evaluation, whereas the conceptual model for soft skill training oriented toward service quality consists of training analysis, training program design, training development, training implementation, and training evaluation.

Abstract

Being aware that the existence of a lecturer is important and it supports the enhancement of an institution, it is necessary to support and improve the competence of the lecturers in it. Besides fulfilling the need for promotion and functional positions, lecturers’ competency improvement also functions to increase their self-existence expected to provide impact in improving the quality of the institution. It is ironical when a leader expects that the institution he/she leads is idolized by its community but he/she has not given maximal career development to its lecturers. Research and Development method aims to produce a guide along with its test for its effectiveness. The result of the preliminary study shows that the mathematics education lecturers in the Distance Learning Program Unit of Semarang (UPBJJ-Semarang) require an opportunity to improve the competence of its lecturers through a further education and training program. It requires motivating and strengthening supervision and regulation. The results of the development show that lecturers need career development, further study, and opportunities to attend various education and training programs that support the improvement of the competence which is relevant to the field of study. As a mathematics education lecturer who has a basic soft skill in logical and systematic mindset, he/she needs to develop so as to be equivalent to the advancement of science. Based on these results, career development can be focused on thinking processes that are classified on the basis of personality types. The improvement of soft skills with the different personality types will provide an effect on the different personal and interpersonal behaviors and will be an important element in the enhancement of the lecturer's performance in mathematics education.

Abstract

This article is a result of research on the development of multicultural character-based curriculum management model in the Islamic Boarding School (henceforth: Pesantren) Khalafiyah. The education pattern in Pesantren Khalafiyah is a boarding school pattern. Pesantren khalafiyah is unique compared to other school types. The school's curriculum is an integrative one that combines the formal school curriculum and the pesantren curriculum. In addition, because learning patterns incorporate habituation to form multicultural characters, the curriculum development model is typically relevant to the typology of Pesantren Khalafiyah. This research was conducted at Pesantren Khalafiyah Assalam Kudus and Pesantren Muhammadiyah Kudus. The data were analyzed using the Research and Development approach. This study aimed to develop multicultural character-based curriculum management models and procedures. The results show that the boarding school-based Pesantren Khalafiyah has special features seen from the school governance, specialty outputs, curriculum loads, and evaluative models of learning. In addition to applying the formal school curriculum, Pesantren Khalafiyah also applies non-formal charges and hidden curriculum. The cost incurred in this type of school is the overlapping between subjects - the number of subjects is more than that in regular schools - and the evaluation model of learning. The provided solution to the problems of the boarding school requires the development of integrative curriculum, which combines the madrasah, pesantren, and habituation curriculum. The integrative curriculum development design contains curriculum formulation procedures by integrating the formal school curricula with the non-formal curricula (pesantren), including the preliminary evaluation procedures.
