Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, particularly in remote and highland regions such as the Bintang Mountains of Papua. It is characterized by impaired physical and cognitive development due to chronic malnutrition, repeated infections, and inadequate health services. Understanding the determinants of stunting in these settings is critical to inform effective interventions and policies. Methods: This study employed an analytical survey with a case-control design to examine risk factors associated with stunting among toddlers aged 24–59 months in the Oksibil Health Center working area, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua. A total of 66 respondents were recruited between April and May 2024, consisting of 33 stunted toddlers (cases) and 33 non-stunted toddlers (controls). Data were collected through structured interviews and analyzed using odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals to identify significant risk factors. Results: The findings revealed that several factors were significantly associated with stunting: maternal knowledge (OR = 1.911), history of infectious diseases (OR = 8.090), environmental sanitation (OR = 1.375), socio-cultural practices (OR = 3.801), and health service utilization (OR = 9.339). Among these, inadequate health service utilization posed the highest risk. Socio-cultural norms, poor hygiene practices, and limited maternal awareness were also strongly linked to stunting prevalence. Conclusion: Stunting in the Bintang Mountains is strongly influenced by a combination of health service gaps, infectious diseases, socio-cultural factors, and insufficient maternal knowledge. Strengthening maternal Education, improving sanitation, addressing harmful cultural practices, and expanding access to health services are critical strategies to reduce stunting prevalence in highland and resource-limited areas of Indonesia

Abstract

Abstract

Evidence is an important part of the trial process and is an important part of the trial of a case in court. The path of the accused is determined by evidence, which determines whether the accused actually committed the offense intended to be imposed on the accused who has been proven guilty. Basically, the purpose of the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code on the need for expert testimony as evidence is to support certain elements of a crime, especially crimes that require testimony from someone who has special expertise related to the elements of the crime. This also means that expert testimony as a legitimate source of evidence cannot be considered the most important source of evidence.

Abstract

Women's correctional institutions hold a strategic role in achieving penal objectives, particularly in the rehabilitation and social reintegration of female inmates. This article aims to analyze how the role of Class IIA Women's Correctional Institutions can be optimized to support penal goals such as rehabilitation, resocialization, and recidivism prevention within the criminal justice system. The research uses normative and empirical juridical approaches, with a case study focused on a Class IIA Women’s Prison. The findings reveal several obstacles in optimizing institutional functions, including limited human resources, inadequate rehabilitation facilities, and lack of societal support. Therefore, structural reforms, institutional capacity building, and inter-agency collaboration are essential to ensure that penal goals are not only repressive but also rehabilitative and restorative in nature.

Abstract

POME (Palm Oil Mill Effluent) is a liquid waste from fresh fruit bunch oil extraction that can damage the environment if the content of the waste is not processed correctly. This study aimed to determine fungi species that can potentially be POME waste remediation agents. Several stages carried out in this study included the isolation of fungi from POME waste, screening potential fungal isolates based on qualitative amylase, lipase, cellulase, and protease enzyme tests, and analysis of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), oil and fat, and pH of POME waste liquid. There were 100 fungal isolates from POME waste disposal: 25 produced cellulase, 25 produced amylase, 25 produced protease, and 23 were capable of producing lipase. Based on the morphological characterization and confirmation by the molecular identification, the selected potential fungal isolate T3(16) was identified as Eutypella sp. The spectrophotometer test for optimal POME waste degradation showed that the degradation percentage by Eutypella sp. isolate T3(16) was 77.82% at a waste concentration of 25% with an incubation time of 168 hours. SEM results from Eutypella sp. T3(16) showed that fungal cells were damaged, with thickening observed as a defense mechanism against environmental stressors and the POME waste biosorbent process. The results of the physicochemical test showed a reduction of 95.10% in BOD, 95.15% in COD, 99.94% in Oil and Fat, and 94.77% in TSS, while the pH increased from 5.0 to 7.2.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and compare the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum by English teachers in urban and rural junior high schools in Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. A qualitative comparative case study method was employed, involving four English teachers from two schools—one urban and one rural. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using an interactive qualitative analysis framework that included data reduction, data display, within-case analysis, cross-case analysis, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal notable differences in curriculum implementation practices and challenges across the two contexts. Urban teachers demonstrated pragmatic adaptation strategies, primarily focusing on material modification and internal collaboration within schools. In contrast, rural teachers exhibited high levels of pedagogical creativity and relied heavily on external collaborative networks, such as Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP). While both contexts faced pedagogical challenges, including low student motivation and limited vocabulary mastery, rural schools additionally encountered significant barriers related to inadequate digital infrastructure. This study underscores the importance of context-sensitive educational policies and targeted professional development programs to support equitable and effective implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum across diverse school settings.
