Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practice of using Quranic verses as a medium for healing and to understand its meaning as well as public responses to it. The phenomenon of Quranic verse-based healing represents a form of living reception of the Quran embedded within socio-religious practices. In this context, Quranic verses are not only regarded as sacred texts recited in acts of worship but are also interpreted as therapeutic instruments believed to possess spiritual power in the healing process. This practice is typically carried out by traditional healers known as molang, individuals recognized within the community for their specialized knowledge and experience in utilizing Quranic verses as healing media. Employing a qualitative approach with the Living Quran method, this field research focuses on the functional reception of the Quran within society. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving healers and community members who engage with these practices. The analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that healing practices performed by molang, such as Abdullah Marjuki and Ridwan Janan, combine the recitation of Quranic verses with specific media, forming a distinctive model of traditional medicine. These verses are believed to carry spiritual efficacy capable of addressing various illnesses. Strong public trust contributes significantly to the continuity of this practice. Overall, community responses indicate positive perceptions of its effectiveness, enabling this tradition to persist within religious and cultural life.

Abstract

The role of the Kyai in maintaining the stability and character of santri (Islamic boarding school students) is a fundamental responsibility that cannot be replaced. The dynamic interplay of cultural diversity and varying social conditions must be carefully considered in managing pesantren, especially amidst the widespread issue of radicalism. This study aims to analyze how the Kyai's leadership model, grounded in local wisdom, functions as a strategy to prevent radicalism within pesantren environments, and how this model can contribute to the development of relevant and high-quality education in the Global South. It also explores the challenges faced by Kyai leadership when rooted in local cultural values. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. The primary sources of data include Kyai, pesantren administrators, and santri, collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis follows Yin's case study framework, involving pattern matching, explanation building, time-series analysis, and repeated observation. Data validity is ensured through triangulation of methods, sources, and theoretical perspectives. The findings reveal that the Kyai’s leadership model based on the prophetic (Nubuwwah) approach, integrated with the pesantren’s local wisdom namely the Panca Jiwa (five foundational values) and the four spiritual pillars serves as a key ideological defense mechanism against the spread of radicalism in the pesantren. Future research is recommended to expand this model across various pesantren and to apply methodological innovations that test the effectiveness of this integrated prophetic-local leadership approach in responding to global challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation gaps in Indonesia’s Law Number 14 of 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers within the context of the Merdeka Curriculum and the rapid transformation of digital education. Despite formally recognizing teachers and lecturers as professional educators, persistent discrepancies remain between regulatory expectations and educational realities. This research employs a thematic policy document analysis of the primary legal framework, 12 implementing regulations, and 25 academic and policy documents published between 2005 and 2026. The analysis identifies four major implementation gaps: 1) the bureaucratic and inequitable nature of teacher certification and professional development systems; 2) inconsistencies in welfare distribution and legal protection mechanisms; 3) misalignment between centralized legal frameworks and the flexible orientation of the Merdeka Curriculum; and 4) regulatory limitations in addressing digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and post-pandemic educational challenges. The findings reveal that the law continues to operate within a predominantly administrative paradigm, limiting its responsiveness to contemporary educational demands. This study contributes to the literature by integrating legal analysis with contemporary educational policy transformation, while highlighting the urgent need for adaptive and future-oriented regulatory reform. The study recommends revising the existing legal framework to strengthen teacher protection, contextualize professional development, and integrate digital competencies into national education policy.
