Abstract

The development of digital technology, especially social media, has changed the way individuals interact and access information, but it has also had a negative impact on mental health. Excessive use of social media is associated with an increased risk of depression, anxiety, and decreased self-esteem, especially among adolescents and young adults. In addition, gadget addiction and the phenomenon of social comparison worsen an individual's psychological condition. On the other hand, the low level of public understanding of mental health is a major challenge in efforts to prevent and treat psychological disorders. Many individuals still consider mental health problems as taboo or personal weaknesses, which prevents them from seeking help. The Student Creativity Program (PKM) can play an important role in addressing this issue by increasing public awareness through community-based education, which can be done through various digital media and interactive activities. PKM allows students to design educational programs that are socially and culturally relevant, as well as increasing mental health literacy in the community. In the context of rapidly developing digitalization, the use of technology in PKM can expand the reach of mental health education in a more interesting and effective way. Therefore, PKM has the potential to reduce the stigma of mental health and promote psychological well-being in the community.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Malaria remains a public health problem in several endemic regions of Timor-Leste, particularly in the border areas of Covalima District adjacent to Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the implementation of malaria elimination policies in Covalima District, focusing on input, process, and output aspects. The study used a qualitative descriptive design with in-depth interviews, documentation, and observation. Ten informants were selected purposively, consisting of health officials, field workers, and community members. The results show that program input, including logistics, human resources, and community participation, was generally adequate, though challenges remain in logistics distribution and workforce shortages. The implementation process followed national malaria elimination standards with good intersectoral coordination. The program output indicated a significant reduction in malaria cases and improved community awareness. The malaria elimination policy implementation in Covalima District has been effective, supported by community participation and cross-sector collaboration. Sustained supervision is required to prevent malaria re-emergence. Keywords: Malaria Elimination, Policy Implementation, Covalima, Timor-Leste. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the relationship between environmental factors (temperature, humidity, pH, and water salinity) and community behavioral factors (knowledge, attitude, and practice) with the malaria potential status in Suco Batugade, Bobonaro District, Timor Leste. This research is an analytic observational study using a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected from 265 respondents through environmental observations and structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate (chi-square test) methods. The results showed that most environmental conditions were within the normal category: temperature (75.8%), pH (75.5%), humidity (73.6%), and water salinity (75.5%). Most community members also had good levels of knowledge (72.8%), attitude (72.1%), and practice (75.1%) toward malaria prevention. Bivariate analysis results indicated that all variables had a significant relationship with Anopheles larval density (p-value 0.05). The study concludes that environmental factors and community behavior are significantly associated with malaria potential status, as reflected by Anopheles larval density in Suco Batugade. Malaria control efforts should focus on enhancing public awareness and actions related to environmental sanitation and the management of aquatic habitats that may serve as breeding sites for malaria vector mosquitoes. Keywords: Malaria, Anopheles Sp., Environmental Characteristics, Community Behavior, Batugade, Timor Leste.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Non-facility based childbirth remains a maternal health problem, particularly in rural areas. Delivery outside health facilities increases the risk of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality due to limited access to skilled health personnel and adequate obstetric services. This study aimed to analyze the determinants influencing non-facility based childbirth among mothers in the working area of UPT Salbait Primary Health Center, Timor Tengah Selatan Regency. This study employed a quantitative case-control design. The study population consisted of all mothers who delivered in the working area of UPT Salbait Primary Health Center, with a total sample of 80 respondents, including 40 cases (non-facility based delivery) and 40 controls (facility based delivery). The variables studied included maternal knowledge, distance to health facilities, economic status, antenatal care (ANC) visits, participation in maternity classes, and parity. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed significant associations between maternal knowledge and non-facility-based childbirth (p = 0.000), distance to health facilities (p = 0.000), economic status (p = 0.011), ANC visits (p = 0.000), participation in maternity classes (p = 0.000), and parity (p = 0.000). Mothers with low knowledge, long distance to health facilities, low economic status, incomplete ANC visits, non-participation in maternity classes, and high parity were more likely to choose non-facility based delivery. In conclusion, non-facility based childbirth is influenced by predisposing, enabling, and need factors. Strengthening maternal health education, improving antenatal care services, and optimizing maternity class programs are necessary to promote facility based delivery. Keywords: Antenatal Care, Health Facilities, Maternal Knowledge, Non-Facility-Based Childbirth.
