Abstract

Abstract

Background: The 2023 Global Tuberculosis (TB) Report ranks Indonesia second in the world for TB cases, with approximately 1,060,000 new cases and 134,000 deaths annually—equating to 17 deaths per hour. In East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, pulmonary TB cases increased from 5,361 in 2020 to 5,184 in 2021, and significantly rose to 8,035 in 2022. Kupang Regency reported the highest number of TB cases in 2022. This study aimed to analyze the impact of risk factors, including population density, HIV/AIDS, and Diabetes Mellitus, on pulmonary TB cases using spatial analysis with the GeoDa application. Subjects and Methods: This ecological study, conducted in Kupang, Indonesia, between October and November 2024, uses secondary data from 2021 to 2023 as the research sample. The study includes all recorded pulmonary TB patients from the Kupang Health Office, with 441 cases in 2021, 785 cases in 2022, and 979 cases in 2023. Results: The Local Indicator of Spatial Association (LISA) test results show a low-high spatial relationship between HIV and TB variables in the Maulafa district for 2022-2023. Additionally, the diabetes mellitus (DM) and TB variables exhibit a High-Low spatial pattern in 2021 and a Low-High pattern in 2022 within the district. Regarding population density in 2021, a clustered spatial autocorrelation was observed (p-value = 0.049 < 0.05; [I] = 0.051 > E[I] = -0.200; Mean = 0.116; SD = 0.120), with a High-Low pattern in the Kota Lama district and a Low-Low pattern in Maulafa. From 2022 to 2023, a Low-High spatial pattern was identified in the Maulafa district. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate spatial autocorrelation between population density and pulmonary TB cases in Kupang City in 2021. However, from 2022 to 2023, no spatial autocorrelation was observed, and the same pattern was found for Diabetes Mellitus and HIV/AIDS.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of gadgets and their impact on the spiritual development of teenagers within the church community. The background of this research identifies that today’s youth spend more time with gadgets, both for entertainment and learning, compared to spiritual activities such as prayer and Bible reading. A qualitative method was employed, utilizing interviews and observations with teenagers in the church. The findings reveal that excessive gadget use disrupts teenagers' focus during worship, with many preferring to engage with social media apps or play games during service time. Additionally, the research highlights the significant role of parents and educators in guiding teenagers to balance their time between gadget use and spiritual activities. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of awareness regarding the negative effects of uncontrolled gadget use, as well as the need for a wise approach in leveraging technology to support the spiritual growth of teenagers.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a potentially fatal infectious disease caused by the dengue virus, which is transmitted through the bites of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. In 2022, the Timor Tengah Utara Regency recorded 44 cases of DHF, with the highest incidence (31 cases) concentrated in the Sasi Public Health Center.Historical data revealed 56 cases in 2021, including one fatality, and 124 cases in 2020, with two deaths. This study aimed to analyze the influence of age, occupation, mobility, residence, income, and education on DHF incidence and examine the spatial distribution of DHF cases in the region using GeoDa software. Employing a descriptive-exploratory design, this study analyzed data from 224 patients with DHF. Bivariate LISA analysis revealed significant spatial autocorrelation for mobility (p = 0.0000), income (p = 0.0061), residence (p = 0.0003), and education (p = 0.0000), whereas age (p = 0.2774) and occupation (p = 0.9260) showed no significant relationships. Further testing with the Lagrange Multiplier (LM) model (p = 0.0000) confirmed spatial dependence, and the Spatial Autoregressive Model (SAR) was identified as the best model because of its highest R² (0.974420) and lowest AIC (329.606). These findings underscore the importance of considering spatial factors in DHF management and provide a foundation for targeted interventions, such as improving community awareness and resource allocation in high-risk areas. The results demonstrate the potential of spatial analysis tools to enhance public health strategies for infectious disease control.

Abstract

Animal bites that transmit rabies are zoonotic diseases and remain a public health problem in Indonesia, including in East Nusa Tenggara, which has experienced an extraordinary event (KLB). Since 2023, the Alak Health Center has routinely conducted rabies monitoring due to the significant increase in cases every year and the high risk of death if left untreated. Therefore, a structured monitoring system is essential for rabies prevention and control. This study aims to describe the implementation of the rabies monitoring system at the Alak Health Center using a systems approach. A qualitative descriptive design was used, involving three monitoring officers as respondents. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and mobile phones for documentation. The results showed that the input variables—materials, funds, and markets—were well met, but human resources were still inadequate because officers were assigned various monitoring responsibilities. In terms of process, epidemiological investigations and medical management have been carried out 100%. Outputs are met through routine reporting to the Kupang City Health Office. However, the expected results have not been achieved due to limited public awareness and participation in monitoring the movement of wild animals. The impact variable was achieved, as none of the 22 cases reported in weeks 1–19 of 2025 developed into suspected rabies cases. This demonstrates the effectiveness of monitoring in preventing rabies cases. However, ongoing challenges include excessive workload for monitoring officers and inadequate community engagement, highlighting areas for improvement in the sustainability of rabies control efforts.
