Abstract

Pesantren faces challenges in adapting traditional teaching methods to the development of digital technology. The digital literacy gap and limited infrastructure are the main obstacles to implementing the digitalization of learning. One solution is using creative digital content to improve learners' digital literacy and creativity. This study aims to analyze the implementation of creative digital content in learning in pesantren and assess its impact on digital literacy and creativity of students. In addition, this study also examines the main challenges of pesantren digitalization and proposes strategic solutions to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability. A qualitative approach with a case study at PPATQ Raudlatul Falah Bermi Gembong Pati Central Java was used as the research location, and the Observations were also made at four Islamic boarding schools in the Central Java region. Data were collected through interviews with Santri and Ustadz, joint observation and document analysis. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in the pesantren education system. The results showed that digitization improved santri's understanding of learning materials and their memory. Santris, who actively participates in digital content creation, is more creative and has better digital skills than traditional methods. However, some challenges include inadequate teacher training and limited internet access. Therefore, strategies are needed to control and strengthen the infrastructure. This study contributes to developing digital learning models in Pesantren and provides policy recommendations for Pesantren leaders and stakeholders to support the transformation of Islamic education through technology

Abstract

This study investigates the mechanism of value internalization in a children’s pesantren through what is conceptualized as Dwi Tunggal Pedagogy—a relational model in which teachers simultaneously enact instructional and parental roles. Rather than broadly examining curriculum or institutional culture, the study specifically analyzes how everyday relational interactions function as the primary socialization process through which moral and spiritual values are internalized by young learners. Using a qualitative case study design, this research was conducted at PPATQ Raudlatul Falah Pati, a Qur’anic boarding school for children aged 7–12. Data were generated through prolonged observation involving 530 students, 123 teachers, and one kiai, as well as in-depth interviews with one kiai, ten teachers (ustadz and ustadzah), ten students, and five parents. Thematic analysis reveals that Dwi Tunggal Pedagogy operates through four interrelated dimensions: relational caregiving, moral–spiritual guidance, emotional attachment, and institutionalized daily interaction. Teachers are not merely transmitters of knowledge but function as consistent attachment figures who provide emotional security, moral discipline, and spiritual nurturing. The findings demonstrate that the effectiveness of children’s pesantren education is deeply rooted in the quality of human relationships rather than instructional structures alone. This study contributes theoretically by extending relational pedagogy and the ethics of care into the context of Islamic boarding education; empirically, by offering rich data from an underexplored setting; and practically, by providing insights for designing child-centered, care-based educational governance in religious boarding schools

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between educators’ communication skills, emotional maturity, and non-discrimination attitudes and their influence on learner motivation in equivalency education programs at SPNF SKB Takalar, Indonesia. Equivalency education, designed to provide alternative pathways for individuals who did not complete formal schooling, requires sustained learner motivation to achieve its social and educational goals. The study aimed to identify the extent to which these three educator attributes contribute to learner engagement and persistence. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design was employed. The population included 115 learners enrolled in equivalency programs, with a random sample of 40 participants. Data were collected using structured questionnaires assessing communication skills, emotional maturity, non-discrimination attitudes, and learner motivation. Statistical analysis involved descriptive measures and Pearson product-moment correlations to examine associations among the variables. Findings revealed that all three attributes were rated as “fairly good” by learners and significantly correlated with learner motivation. Communication skills emerged as the strongest predictor, highlighting the importance of clarity, immediacy, and relational engagement. Emotional maturity demonstrated a strong link with motivation, emphasizing empathy, resilience, and regulation in shaping supportive classroom climates. Non-discrimination attitudes were also significant, underscoring the role of fairness and inclusivity in fostering learners’ confidence and persistence.

Abstract

Despite ongoing efforts to expand adult literacy programs under SDG 4, participation and sustained engagement in rural contexts remain uneven, and the mechanisms that support persistence in community-based settings are not well understood. This study examines how faith-based community education supports adult functional literacy participation and perceived outcomes in relation to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) in rural Indonesia. Focusing on Muslimat NU learning activities in Pamekasan, the study investigates adult learners’ motivations for participation, the learning climate, the roles of religious practices and authority, and perceived literacy-related outcomes. The study employed a cross-sectional descriptive survey design involving 64 adult participants. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire capturing participation motivations, perceptions of the learning environment, integration of religious practices, the influence of moral authority, and self-reported literacy and capability outcomes. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative descriptive interpretation of open-ended responses. Findings show that participation was predominantly agentic and instrumental, driven by literacy aspirations and family-related motivations rather than passive compliance. The learning environment was perceived as effectively safe and enjoyable, supporting sustained participation. Religious practices such as prayer and Islamic adab functioned as normative learning infrastructure, structuring continuity and attention. Moral authority, embodied by kyai and nyai figures, operated as non-coercive regulatory capital, reinforcing attendance discipline. Participants also reported perceived improvements in literacy, alongside broader economic and social spillovers. The study contributes to adult literacy research by elucidating socially embedded mechanisms—motivation, affective safety, ritual practice, and moral authority—through which faith-based community settings can support functional literacy engagement in support of SDG 4.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically altered people’s lives, including university education. COVID-19 has significantly impacted the transition from offline to online learning. Furthermore, education in Indonesia must be able to accelerate education 4.0. The learning system is carried out remotely using information technology. There will be numerous major challenges in implementing the online learning model. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Universitas Islam 45 needed to assess student satisfaction with online learning to maintain service quality. This study aimed to assess student satisfaction during online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic using the Service Quality (Servqual) and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) methods. Servqual and IPA are methods for measuring customer satisfaction and service quality. According to the Servqual results, all 17 measurements have a negative gap value. This demonstrates a gap between students’ perceptions and expectations of online learning. The IPA Matrix indicates the priority of improving online-based learning, which includes responding quickly and efficiently to students’ needs in online-based learning, encouraging students’ motivation throughout the learning process, and understanding students’ impediments during the process of online-based learning.

Abstract

This research examined the interplay between parenting styles, socio-economic and cultural conditions, and adolescent independence in rural settings. Utilizing qualitative approach with case study method, the study gathered insights from parents and adolescents in rural communities to understand how different parenting approaches implemented and how they are influenced by the unique characteristics of rural life. Findings reveal a prevalent use of democratic parenting styles in these settings, characterized by significant child involvement in decision-making and open communication about family expectations and responsibilities. This approach not only fosters independence but also instills crucial social values and collaborative skills in the youth. The study highlights the integral role of community in the educational framework, showing how communal support and shared cultural values shape and reinforce educational practices and adolescent development. Economic factors and government interventions are also noted as significant influences on parenting styles and educational opportunities, with parents adapting their methods according to changing economic landscapes and available resources. The research concluded that effective educational strategies in rural areas require a holistic approach that integrates family, community, and broader socio-economic contexts, thereby supporting the comprehensive development of rural adolescents. This study contributes to the broader discourse on rural education, providing valuable insights for policymakers and educators in designing community-specific educational programs.

Abstract

The study aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the implementation and outcomes of the character education program for madrasah students through Mabit activities. This study employs qualitative research methods, using interviews and observations to explore the implementation of character education through Mabit activities at Madrasah Diniyyah Baitul Qur'an Al-Ahad, following a purposive sampling strategy to gather detailed insights from participants. The study found that Mabit (Malam Bina Iman dan Taqwa) activities significantly impact character education in Madrasah Diniyyah. Preparations for Mabit involve socializing with parents and students and preparing learning materials and locations. However, challenges such as inadequate facilities often require renting additional resources. Character development is significantly enhanced through Mabit activities, with students exhibiting increased empathy, discipline, and mutual care. Positive behaviors such as sharing food, avoiding harsh language, and maintaining discipline in worship demonstrate the program's success. Challenges during implementation, such as timing issues and managing large student numbers, are mitigated through logistical support and the supportive environment of the madrasah. The research implies that character education programs like Mabit can be highly effective in religious educational settings if logistical and infrastructural challenges are addressed.
