Abstract

Based Collaborative and Active Learning to Create Meaningful Education.

Abstract

This article critically reassesses the relevance of Thomas Lickona's character education theory in explaining civic character within the post-truth digital environment. As digital platforms increasingly shape how citizens access information, form opinions, and engage in public life, civic character is no longer formed solely through traditional institutions but through algorithmically mediated, affective, and epistemically unstable environments. A significant research gap exists in that prior applications of Lickona's framework have not adequately examined its explanatory adequacy in post-truth digital contexts, nor proposed systematic reconstructions grounded in digital civic theory. Using qualitative library research and critical-conceptual analysis, this study examined scholarly literature across civic education, media studies, and digital political communication. Data were collected through purposive literature selection and analyzed through four interrelated stages: conceptual identification, thematic comparison, critical interpretation, and conceptual reconstruction. Conceptual triangulation was employed to enhance analytical rigor. The analysis finds that Lickona's triadic model moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action remains normatively valuable as an ethical foundation for civic character, particularly in fostering civic discernment, empathy, and responsibility. However, the theory is analytically insufficient for addressing the socio-technical realities of post-truth citizenship, including algorithmic mediation, affective virality, and epistemic instability. This article proposes a reconstructed framework of digital civic character that extends Lickona's theory through (1) critical digital discernment, (2) digital civic empathy, (3) responsible digital civic engagement, and (4) algorithmic awareness. The study contributes to the theoretical renewal of character education for democratic life in digital society.

Abstract

Social media has become a central arena for political communication in the digital era, particularly in constructing leadership images, disseminating political messages, and fostering perceived closeness with the public. Populist leadership content distributed through digital platforms is typically characterized by personal, emotional, and cultural narratives, which have the potential to shape how young people think, behave, and perceive social reality as citizens. In this context, the populist leadership content of Dedi Mulyadi is noteworthy, as it consistently emphasizes proximity to the community, moral storytelling, and the use of strong local cultural symbols, especially those rooted in Sundanese identity. Such strategies are considered effective in building emotional bonds with audiences, particularly students. However, this populist approach also raises concerns, as it may prioritize emotional mobilization over the cultivation of reflective and substantive civic values. This study aims to analyze the influence of Dedi Mulyadi’s populist leadership content on the formation of civic disposition among students of the Faculty of Social Sciences Education (FPIPS), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Specifically, it examines students’ perceptions of mediated intimacy, analyzes the effects of digital directness and performative authenticity on civic disposition, and formulates solutions to address the dominance of emotional appeals in populist content. Employing a quantitative correlational design with a survey method, the findings reveal a significant influence of populist leadership content on students’ civic disposition, indicated by a t-value of 3.702 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a positive correlation is identified (r = 0.362), suggesting a weak but meaningful relationship. Overall, leadership content that highlights social closeness, public problem-solving, and moral narratives contributes to shaping students’ civic attitudes, while also underscoring the need to strengthen critical.

Abstract

This article examines how social media is utilised to enhance broader political participation among young people. The study employed a descriptive survey design using a Google Form, complemented by in-depth interviews conducted between September and December 2024. The participants consisted of 356 Generation Z individuals in Pekanbaru City, including first-time student voters and pre-voters. Data were analysed using descriptive techniques based on survey responses, expressed as percentages. The findings reveal three main typologies. First, social media functions as the primary source of political information due to its accessibility, practicality, up-to-date content, comprehensive coverage, and visually engaging format. Second, social media serves as a medium for political communication, where individuals engage by following political accounts, commenting on posts, or passively consuming content that still influences their daily discussions. Third, social media serves as a platform for political expression, as evidenced by reactions such as likes, dislikes, content sharing, and reporting. The study suggests that voter education actors should optimise their social media presence by producing engaging, accessible content aligned with current trends, such as podcasts, short videos, reels, and interactive Q&A formats. Collaboration with educational institutions and youth communities is also essential. Ultimately, these strategies aim to foster meaningful political participation among Generation Z, extending beyond electoral involvement to more active non-electoral engagement.

Abstract

In an era in which information flows freely across countless digital channels, understanding how mass media shapes young people's political consciousness has become increasingly vital. This study explores the intricate relationship between mass media—both traditional and digital—and political education among the youth, drawing from democratic theory and media literacy frameworks. Through a comprehensive examination of existing literature, we uncover a fascinating paradox: while today's young generation enjoys unprecedented access to political information and opportunities for civic discourse, they simultaneously face formidable challenges, including media manipulation, echo chambers, and a concerning erosion of trust in news institutions. Our findings reveal that the effectiveness of mass media as an educational tool is not straightforward. Rather, it is mediated by critical factors such as media literacy skills, socioeconomic contexts, and the quality of democratic institutions within which young people operate. In contexts where Indonesian youth navigate their political identities—from bustling cities to remote villages—these dynamics play out in unique ways that deserve careful attention. This research makes a compelling case that effective political education in the digital age requires more than just access to information. It demands integrated approaches that combine formal education, robust media literacy programs, and collaborative efforts among media organisations, educational institutions, and civic groups. The goal is not merely to create informed citizens, but to nurture a generation of young people who can think critically meaningfully in democratic life. As we stand at this critical juncture, the choices we make today about media systems, education, and democratic culture will shape the quality of citizenship for generations to come.

Abstract

This study investigates the development of digital populism in political communication research through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and a bibliometric analysis of the Scopus database. Using the PRISMA screening framework, 18 relevant journal articles published between 2015 and 2025 were identified, suggesting that although research in this field remains limited, it has shown a notable increase, particularly after 2021. The findings indicate that the concept of digital populism has evolved from an initial focus on online activism and networked resistance to a more comprehensive framework that explains how populist messages are strategically created, distributed, and amplified through digital platforms and their underlying logics. Bibliometric mapping reveals key thematic clusters of digital populism, nationalism, and populism, with discourse analysis as the dominant methodological approach. Furthermore, the synthesis highlights five defining characteristics of digital populism: people-centrism, emotional communication, political visualisation, virality, and direct participation. Despite these insights, the literature remains heavily concentrated in Western contexts, with limited contributions from Asia and the Global South. Accordingly, future studies should broaden data sources and pursue comparative research across diverse sociopolitical contexts to enhance theoretical and empirical understanding.

Abstract

The low participation skills of students in Vocational High Schools (SMK) are a challenge in strengthening Civic Education learning. The School Literacy Movement (GLS) is seen as a strategy that not only improves reading and writing skills but also encourages active student involvement in the learning process (Ministry of Education and Culture, 2016). This study aims to describe the use of saung as a means of strengthening the School Literacy Movement in building student participation skills at SMK Texar Karawang. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal, GLS coordinator, and students. The results show that the use of saung as a literacy space can create a more open and dialogical learning atmosphere, thus encouraging students to actively read, discuss, express opinions, and engage in literacy activities in a participatory manner. These findings indicate that saung not only functions as a physical literacy facility, but also as a social space that contributes to the development of student participation skills.

Abstract

The swift advancement of digital technology necessitates a cohesive strategy to enhance digital citizenship within citizenship education via pertinent and contextual learning methodologies. Previous studies generally analyzed the two as separate factors; this study, however, rigorously investigates the level of integration between them in citizenship education. The study used a systematic literature review to analyze scientific articles published between 2018 and 2025, indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, using the keywords digital citizenship, augmented reality, citizenship education, learning, and technology, in accordance with PRISMA guidelines, assisted by Google Scholar and Publish or Perish. The findings indicate that digital citizenship through augmented reality serves as an immersive educational technology that enhances engagement and visualization in learning. The explicit integration of these two concepts remains constrained. This paper presents a conceptual framework that designates augmented reality as a pedagogical intermediary for applying digital citizenship principles in experiential citizenship education, and advocates for more empirical validation in genuine educational settings.

Abstract

The Emergency Department (ED) is a critical unit within hospitals, serving as the frontline for handling patients in emergency and critical conditions. The success of ED services depends not only on the quality of medical actions but also on patient satisfaction and their intention to revisit. This study aims to analyze the influence of socioeconomic level and patient satisfaction on patients' revisit intention to the ED of Pradipa Medika Hospital. This research uses a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach involving 229 respondents selected through probability sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that socioeconomic level and patient satisfaction significantly affect patients' revisit intention. Patient satisfaction, particularly in the dimensions of reliability, assurance, tangibles, empathy, and responsiveness, is the main determinant driving patient loyalty to ED services. The study emphasizes the importance of improving hospital service quality by considering patients' socioeconomic aspects as a strategy to strengthen loyalty and patient retention.

Abstract

Globalization and digitalization have significantly impacted youth, influencing their moral, social, and cultural behaviors. Local traditions, however, remain a vital medium for transmitting values that foster character development. This study explores the character education values embedded in the Ziarah Kubro tradition, a cultural and religious practice in Palembang, Indonesia, and examines its relevance for contemporary youth. Using a qualitative descriptive design, five youth participants aged 18–25 were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, incorporating triangulation to ensure validity. Findings indicate that the tradition fosters religiosity, empathy, social respect, solidarity, cooperative behavior, and cultural identity among youth. Moreover, despite the prevalence of digital media, Ziarah Kubro remains relevant, bridging historical knowledge, spiritual growth, and social engagement. The study demonstrates that local cultural practices can effectively serve as a foundation for character education while adapting to contemporary digital contexts. These insights provide both theoretical contributions to the understanding of culturally grounded character education and practical guidance for educators and community leaders in preserving local heritage.
