Abstract

This study was motivated by the significant gap between primary schools in producing athletes for the National Student Sports Olympics (O2SN), which indicates variations in the quality of physical education instruction. This study aims to comprehensively analyse the quality of physical education learning in influencing the success of schools in developing O2SN athletes from the teachers' perspective. Using a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach, this study involved 15 physical education teachers from public primary schools in Rancakalong Subdistrict, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected over two months through semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and observations, with validity ensured through triangulation, and analysed using a thematic and descriptive approach. The results, visualised through a hierarchy chart, reveal that the most dominant factors in the success of producing athletes are contextual conditions (talent identification and differentiated learning) and teacher action strategies (varied methods, motivation, and individual guidance). Teachers play a crucial role as the primary filter in identifying student potential through regular learning integrated with additional training and extracurricular programmes. Although limited facilities are a major obstacle, teachers' creativity in modifying equipment maintains instructional effectiveness. This study concludes that O2SN achievements are a systemic accumulation of pedagogical quality, students' intrinsic interest, and school support that synergises intracurricular activities with athletic development.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and the increasing use of electronic devices in elementary school children contribute to the increase in sedentary behavior which has an impact on decreased physical fitness, impaired motor development, and reduced social interaction. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of traditional games in reducing the sedentary behavior of elementary school students. The study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design through a nonequivalent control group design model. The study participants totaled 77 students in grades IV–VI consisting of the experimental group (n = 39) and the control group (n = 38). The instrument used was the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ) which met the criteria of validity and reliability (α = 0.853). Traditional game-based learning interventions were carried out for ten meetings in PE learning. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and the Mann–Whitney U Test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a significant decrease in sedentary behavior in the experimental group, from 4.32 hours/day to 3.06 hours/day. These findings suggest that traditional games are effective as a learning strategy to lower the sedentary behavior of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study is motivated by a lack of attention to upper body strength training in football training programs, even though this strength plays an important role in improving  the ability to throw inside. Football training programs generally emphasize more on foot technique so that the development of the strength of the shoulder, arm, and upper body muscles has not been carried out optimally. This study aims to determine the effect of upper body plyometric exercise (UBPT) on the improvement of throwing ability inward in football players. The research method used is a quantitative approach with  a pre-experimental design using a pretest-posttest design of one group. The study participants amounted to 24 PS Ranc FC Football School players in the age group of 14 years who were selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out through throw-in tests at the pretest and posttest stages after the implementation of 12 UBBT training sessions. Data analysis used normality test, homogeneity test, and paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant increase in the ability to throw with a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Thus, UBPT exercises are effective in increasing the strength and explosiveness of the upper body muscles so that they can improve  the ability to throw into  football players.

Abstract

Confidence is one of the most important psychological aspects in rock climbing because athletes have to face various challenges, such as altitude, the difficulty level of the trail, and the pressure during training and competition. This study aims to analyze the confidence of rock climbing athletes from Sumedang Regency and identify the factors that influence it. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The data collection technique was carried out through observation and in-depth interviews with four rock climbing athletes who actively train in nature lovers organizations in Sumedang. The data obtained was then analyzed descriptively to describe the real conditions experienced by athletes regarding their confidence level. The results of the study show that in general the athletes have a fairly good level of confidence. This can be seen from their readiness before climbing, the courage to make decisions when facing challenging routes, and the ability to control emotions when at height. Athletes also show an open attitude in evaluating performance after climbing. Athletes' confidence is influenced by two main factors, namely internal factors and external factors. Internal factors include confidence in one's abilities, training experience, positive mindset, and courage to face fear. Meanwhile, external factors include support from coaches, teammates, family, and the availability of training facilities. In addition, some obstacles that can reduce athletes' confidence include nervousness during competitions, fear of heights, pressure from opponents who are considered stronger, and limited training facilities. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the confidence of rock climbing athletes is not formed instantly, but through a continuous training process, competition experience, and support from the surrounding environment.

Abstract

Education is the goal of developing students' character as part of the formation of social behavior. It not only focuses on intellectual development but also plays an important role in instilling moral values and social attitudes that are reflected in daily life. This study aims to understand how karate instruction shapes students' views about respect and responsibility. This study used a descriptive framework and a qualitative technique to explain events that occur during karate training sessions. Regular training sessions were attended by seven karate students. Paperwork related to training activities, student interviews, and training observers were used to collect data. Data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion formulation based on the study findings were used to analyze the data. The results indicate that students’ respect is reflected in their habit of performing salutation (rei) to coaches and fellow students, paying attention to the coach’s instructions, and maintaining proper attitudes and behavior during training. Meanwhile, responsibilities include maintaining training equipment, ensuring the safety of training partners, being disciplined in attending training sessions, and following dojo rules. These attitudes are developed via continuing training activities, the implementation of dojo rules, and the role modeling of coaches. Karate instruction therefore helps students develop both their martial arts skills and their character.

Abstract

Physical education in primary schools not only enhances motor skills and physical health but also significantly contributes to the development of student teamwork. Although team sports such as rounders can promote collaboration, traditional pedagogical methods sometimes emphasise performance at the expense of substantive social engagement, highlighting the necessity for more effective educational strategies. This study aimed to examine the effect of an immersive learning approach in the game of rounders on elementary school students’ understanding of cooperation and to compare its effectiveness with that of conventional teaching methods. This study used a quantitative, quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. Participants were sixth-grade students divided into two groups: an experimental group that received immersive instruction and a control group that received traditional instruction. Data were collected using a cooperation questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The instrument used a Likert scale and was tested for validity and reliability before use. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and inferential analysis to examine intra-group improvements and inter-group differences. Results showed that both groups improved their understanding of cooperation after the learning process; however, the experimental group showed significantly more improvement than the control group. Statistical testing confirmed a significant difference between the two groups after the intervention, indicating that the immersive learning approach was more effective in improving students’ understanding of cooperation. The learning process, which incorporated reflection, discussion, and collaborative problem-solving, led to deeper, more meaningful student engagement. In conclusion, integrating an immersive learning approach into rounders instruction positively influenced students’ understanding of cooperation. This can be considered an effective strategy to improve the quality of physical education teaching in elementary schools.
