Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the performance of supervisors in improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in Aceh Tengah District by examining their roles in academic and managerial supervision, the strategies employed to strengthen teacher performance, and the internal and external factors that influence their success. Methodology: This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a field study approach; data were collected from IRE supervisors, school principals, and teachers through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document analysis, followed by thematic analysis. Main Findings: The findings reveal that supervisors play a pivotal role in enhancing learning quality through structured teacher mentoring, support for curriculum development, classroom observation, and performance evaluation. Effective supervisory practices include coaching clinics, collaborative lesson planning, and reflective supervision. However, several challenges hinder optimal implementation, such as limited professional development opportunities, insufficient operational support, constrained supervision coverage areas, and disparities in teachers’ digital competence. Despite these limitations, collaborative strategies involving supervisors, principals, and teachers demonstrate strong potential to resolve supervisory barriers and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study lies in its formulation of an integrated supervisory performance framework that connects the academic, managerial, and digital supervision dimensions within the context of Islamic education, an area underexplored in previous research. The study recommends strengthening competency-based supervisor training, increasing resource allocation, and enhancing inter-agency coordination to ensure sustainable, systemic improvements in the Islamic Religious Education supervisory ecosystem.

Abstract

Character education in early childhood requires a comprehensive managerial framework that extends beyond classroom practices. However, many institutions face challenges in implementing systematic and integrated management approaches. This study examines and compares the management of character education in two early childhood institutions, focusing on how planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision shape program effectiveness. A qualitative multi-site case study was conducted at PAUD Az Zikro and PAUD Al-Maghfiroh. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, complemented by cross-case comparison to identify patterns and differences between institutions. Both institutions are grounded in religious-based character values but differ substantially in managerial practices. PAUD Az Zikro employs a simple organizational structure, administratively oriented supervision, and non-standardized implementation. In contrast, PAUD Al-Maghfiroh adopts data-driven planning, distributed leadership, structured learning strategies, measurable indicators, and instrument-based supervision. These differences influence the coherence, accountability, and sustainability of character education programs. The findings underscore the critical role of integrated management in ensuring effective character education. A systematic alignment of planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision enhances program consistency and institutional resilience. The study contributes theoretically by extending character education discourse from a value-internalization perspective to a management-based model, where managerial components function as interrelated systems mediating character development. Effective character education is thus contingent upon participatory planning, collaborative organizational structures, authentic assessment, and reflective supervision. Future research should explore broader multisite contexts, longitudinal designs, and the use of digital or AI-assisted tools to strengthen supervision and assessment practices.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia requires adaptive, collaborative, and transformative school leadership to ensure sustainable educational change. However, many schools continue to experience challenges related to teacher readiness, instructional supervision, technological adaptation, and school culture transformation. This study aims to analyze the transformational and instructional leadership roles of school principals in supporting curriculum transformation at SMA Al-Hidayah. The research employed a qualitative case study approach involving the principal, vice principal, teachers, and educational staff as research informants selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the principal implemented transformational and instructional leadership simultaneously through teacher professional development programs, academic supervision, collaborative communication, and digital learning facilitation. The study also found that collaborative school culture, leadership commitment, and teacher motivation became major supporting factors, while technological limitations, economic constraints of students, and limited instructional time emerged as inhibiting factors. This research contributes to strengthening the discourse on adaptive educational leadership in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, particularly in private senior high school contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the optimization of smartboard utilization in improving teacher performance effectiveness at SMP IT Mutiara. The research is motivated by the gap between the availability of digital learning technology and its optimal pedagogical utilization in classroom practices. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that the utilization of smartboards at SMP IT Mutiara has developed positively, shifting from a conventional presentation tool to an interactive learning medium integrating multimedia resources such as videos, digital quizzes, educational games, and various online platforms. However, the level of utilization remains uneven among teachers and has not yet been fully optimized. Teachers generally perceive smartboards positively, as they facilitate material delivery, enhance student engagement, and create more interactive classroom environments. Nevertheless, limitations in training and digital pedagogical competence remain key challenges in maximizing their use. Furthermore, smartboard integration contributes significantly to improving teacher performance effectiveness, particularly in instructional creativity, classroom management, time efficiency, and student participation. Despite these positive impacts, technical constraints such as internet instability and limited professional training still affect implementation consistency. Overall, the study concludes that smartboards have strong potential to enhance teacher performance effectiveness; however, their optimization depends on teachers’ digital competence, continuous professional development, and adequate technological infrastructure.

Abstract

The advancement of modern education requires the implementation of innovative, creative, and adaptive learning systems through the use of graphic-based instructional media in curriculum development. Conventional teaching methods often lead to low student participation, learning boredom, and difficulties in understanding abstract concepts due to limited visual support. This study aims to analyze the influence of graphic-based learning media on curriculum development, learning motivation, and students’ creativity. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through literature review, observation, and analysis of educational sources related to visual media and modern curriculum development. The findings indicate that graphic media, including images, diagrams, illustrations, and infographics, contribute to improving conceptual understanding, learning concentration, critical thinking skills, and interactive learning communication. The integration of graphic media also supports student-centered learning practices. However, its effectiveness is constrained by technological limitations, teachers’ competencies in designing visual media, and differences in students’ learning characteristics.

Abstract

Inclusive education in vocational schools faces significant challenges, particularly in how teachers manage learning for students with special needs. This study aims to explore and describe: (1) teachers' ability in planning learning for students with special needs, (2) the implementation of learning in inclusive classrooms, (3) assessment practices applied to students with special needs, and (4) the extent to which teachers can adapt learning materials and evaluations to meet diverse needs. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research subjects included the school principal, guidance counsellors, homeroom teachers, students with special needs, and regular students. The findings reveal that while teachers show initiative and commitment to inclusive practices, they face major obstacles due to the lack of differentiated curricula, formal assessment tools, and specific training on handling students with special needs. Positive practices include regular parent-teacher communication, informal assessments, and peer-group integration strategies. However, systemic policies or institutional resources do not support these efforts. These findings indicate the urgent need for structured training programs, adaptive instructional materials, and policy-level support to optimise inclusive education practices in vocational schools.
