Abstract

COVID-19 bears various traumatic impacts on students. This study aims to identify PTSD symptoms in junior and senior high school students after the COVID-19 outbreak. The study was conducted using a cross-sectional survey method. Meanwhile, the data was collected using a problem checklist instrument. Further, the obtained data were analyzed using non-parametric statistics with the Mann-Whitney test to identify differences in PTSD symptoms based on gender and level of education. The results of the analysis show that symptoms appear in every physical, emotional, mental, behavioral, and spiritual aspect. Besides, we also found a significant difference in the level of anxiety disorder between male and female students after COVID-19, while there is no significantly distinct anxiety disorder between junior and senior high school students. In the end, we recommended that more in-depth research regarding the forms of intervention to reduce PTSD in students should be carried out.

Abstract

The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education has redefined teacher competence, requiring not only technical proficiency but also pedagogical adaptability and ethical awareness. However, existing literature lacks a comprehensive synthesis connecting these dimensions within school-based education. This study employed a bibliometric analysis of 288 Scopus-indexed research articles published between 2021 and 2025. Data were retrieved via ScienceDirect and validated through Scopus. VOSviewer was used to conduct keyword co-occurrence analysis, applying full counting and LinLog/modularity clustering to identify dominant themes. Seventy-six high-frequency keywords were grouped into seven thematic clusters: (1) student outcomes and engagement, (2) teacher development and TPACK integration, (3) AI literacy and readiness, (4) pedagogical innovation and AI systems, (5) generative AI tools and trends, (6) curriculum design and early AI education, and (7) emotional intelligence and institutional support. Key frameworks included TPACK, UNESCO's AI Competency Framework, and self-efficacy models such as TAICS. Findings reveal a multidimensional structure connecting cognitive, affective, and institutional aspects of teacher competence. The study highlights the need for holistic teacher education programs that integrate AI literacy, ethical reasoning, emotional resilience, and contextual pedagogy. Implications are discussed for curriculum developers, policymakers, and professional development initiatives, particularly in emerging contexts like Indonesia.

Abstract

Emotional intelligence (EI) plays a critical role in adolescents' social and academic development. This study investigates the influence of perceived parenting styles and sociodemographic factors on the emotional intelligence of junior high school students. A quantitative descriptive approach was utilized, involving 177 seventh-grade students who completed standardized questionnaires assessing emotional intelligence, parenting styles, and demographic information. Findings reveal that 51% of students exhibit moderate levels of emotional intelligence. The most commonly perceived parenting styles were permissive and indifferent, while students who perceived their parents as authoritative demonstrated higher EI levels. Significant differences in EI were also found across gender, age, and parental education. Female students reported higher EI scores than males. Students aged 13 exhibited greater emotional intelligence compared to those aged 12 and 14, potentially due to key developmental transitions at that age. Furthermore, higher parental education was associated with elevated EI levels among students. These results underscore the relevance of parenting style and sociodemographic background in shaping emotional intelligence during early adolescence. Schools are encouraged to support the development of EI through structured counseling programs. School counselors should tailor interventions based on students’ developmental stages and family contexts. Emotional intelligence among junior high school students is significantly shaped by parenting styles and demographic factors. Future research should explore additional variables such as socioeconomic status and cultural background to inform more comprehensive and culturally responsive interventions.

Abstract

Empathy in counseling serves not only an interpersonal skill but also as a therapeutic practice shaped by cultural values. In Sundanese society, empathy is manifested through the values of silih asih (compassion), silih asah (grooming), and silih asuh (nurturing), which emphasize harmony, caring, and collective responsibility in social relationships. However, the understanding of empathy in counseling practice is still dominated by a Western perspective that underrepresents the dynamics of empathy in collectivist cultures. This study aims to examine empathy as a therapeutic practice rooted in Sundanese cultural values in the context of counseling in Indonesia. The study employed a qualitative case study design, collecting data through interviews, observations, and document analysis with therapists and clients in community counseling services, schools, and private practice. Thematic analysis identified four main themes: empathy as a basis for building trust; the expression of empathy through Sundanese cultural values; challenges in maintaining empathy, such as over-identification and emotional exhaustion; and strategies for sustaining empathy through supervision and peer support. The findings indicate that empathy is both a universal therapeutic mechanism and a culturally constructed practice. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating local cultural values into counseling practices that are responsive to the Indonesian context.

Abstract

The Semeru eruption in 2021 had a traumatic impact for almost a year. People there live with anxiety and traumatic symptoms, including Children. This study aims to identify the post-traumatic conditions of children in this recovery stage. This research was qualitative research with a phenomenological design. The main subjects were 94 children in the Supiturang village, Lumajang, the closest village to Mount Semeru. Data were collected by observing and interviewing the children. Triangulation of data was carried out by in-depth interviews with six adults (the parents, the village elder, and the teacher of some children). The results showed that (1) anxiety and traumatic symptoms in some children were relatively high; (2) there was an increase in social support from the community for the children, and (3) religious activities made a deeper meaning in the children's recovery process. The results of this study underline that social support and religious approaches as the main factors in children's recovery process. The results of this study underlie the need for alternative treatments based on local wisdom with a collective and religious approach so that the community can do it independently and sustainably for the children.

Abstract

The abstract should end with a comment about the importance of a brief outcome or conclusion. The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in education often remains limited to knowledge transfer without adequately promoting critical thinking or emotional development. School counselors are expected to adopt holistic, student-centered approaches aligned with deep learning principles. This study aimed to enhance junior high school counselors' competencies in Garut Regency through Socratic method training as a strategy for implementing deep learning principles in guidance and counseling services. A qualitative participatory action research design was employed with 51 guidance and counseling teachers using the APPLE Facilitation Model (Assess, Plan, Prepare, Lead, Evaluate). Data were collected through reflective exercises, service plan development, practical implementation observations, and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using thematic analysis. Profound professional transformation emerged across four dimensions: identity shift from advice-givers to facilitators, enhanced student engagement, collaborative professional culture development, and increased comfort with uncertainty. Implementation outcomes showed 98% increased confidence in student-centered approaches, 91% motivation for facilitative methods, and 96% intention to implement Socratic questioning. The integration of deep learning principles through Socratic method training demonstrated significant promise for enhancing school-based guidance and counseling effectiveness. The APPLE model proved effective for systematic professional transformation in Indonesian educational contexts.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a drill-based arithmetic training program in improving elementary students' numeracy literacy. Methodology: This quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest study involved 32 fourth-grade students selected through a total sampling approach. A 20-item arithmetic essay test was used as the instrument (CVR = 0.89; Cronbach's Alpha = 0.856). The intervention comprised 8 sessions (90 minutes each) integrating drill and practice, concrete manipulative media, scaffolding, peer tutoring, and corrective feedback. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test (α = 0.05) and Hake's N-Gain. Main Findings: Pretest scores were extremely low (M = 15.31), with 0% achieving KKM (Minimum Completion Criteria). Post-intervention scores rose to M = 82.03, a gain of 66.72 points (435.71%), with 84.4% of students achieving KKM. The Wilcoxon test confirmed a highly significant improvement (p = 0.000001), and N-Gain yielded a mean of 0.7964 (high category). Effectiveness is attributed to the integration of drill-and-practice (behavioristic theory), concrete manipulatives (Piaget), peer tutoring within the Zone of Proximal Development (Vygotsky), and gradual scaffolding. The N-Gain exceeded prior studies. Limitations include the absence of a control group and a small sample size, restricting generalizability. Novelty/Originality of this study: This is the first study to examine an integrated, multi-component program that addresses all four arithmetic operations simultaneously in Eastern Indonesia (Buton Regency), demonstrating that multi-component designs yield superior N-Gain outcomes and offering a replicable framework for teachers addressing low numeracy literacy.
